Turtling is an Invention perk which increases the duration and cooldown of Barricade by 10% per rank. It can be created in armour gizmos.
Turtling's value can be determined by comparing Barricade's effective time per minute:
||Up-time per minute (ticks)
|No Farm totem effect
||No Farm totem effect
- ^ As calculated with a tier 90 shield equipped
- ^ An elder malletops in one large pen with a Farm totem
- ^ An elder malletops in each large pen with a Farm totem
Turtling's effect on Barricade's up-time remains nearly unchanged. The set effect of Achto equipment and its inferior versions can be used for a net positive increase in Barricade's effective up-time however, as they nullify the additional cooldown times added by the perk. Additionally, in any situation where you are Barricading without Achto, you are benefiting by saving adreneline to use on thresholds and other ultimates.
Turtling on a high level shield is highly recommended for bomb tanking at Vorago, as the Barricade ability must nullify as many attacks as possible during the final phase. In this scenario, the increased cooldown is not an issue, as Barricade is used alternatingly and there is ample time before it is needed again.
Having an elder Malletops in each of your large pens with a Farm totem on the Ranch Out of Time significantly increases the uptime of Barricade. Because it is added on top of the time calculated by turtling, it makes total uptime worse. However, in situations like using Achto, if cooldown is not an issue it can lead to relatively long Barricade uptime.
