They could teleport players to the courtroom within Botany Bay. One stood by the entrance of the eastern Falador bank, one stood outside Varrock's east bank, one stood at the entrance of to the Grand Exchange, and another stood at the entrance of the Edgeville bank. Also, one was on the East Ardougne square.
A trial announcer would also tell the names of any bots that are currently on trial in the player's current world. When a bot was held on trial by the General, text would appear over the Trial announcer every few seconds saying "The trial of [bot name] is underway!".
When asked who he is, he replies that his identity is unimportant and that all a player needs to know is that he works for the Botfinder General - Mathew Hopscotch. He doesn't tell the player how the Botfinder General can tell which player is a bot but tells the player the fact that he is always right on his judgment.
In Dimension of Disaster: Defender of Varrock, the one in New Varrock is used to obtain a Tin soldier head, likely from one of the bots that were set on trial. This trial announcer, named Craig Forrester, is in charge of Bot Wars, a bot gladiatorial competition - this appears to be a reference to the BBC show "Robot Wars", hosted for multiple seasons by Craig Charles, and Philippa Forrester.
