Cryptic clues[edit | edit source]
A cryptic clue is one of the types of clues found as part of the Treasure Trails Distraction and Diversion. As the name suggests, a cryptic clue does not directly tell the player where to go, but has a secretive message in the clue scroll which points towards a location. Solutions may involve talking to an NPC, searching an interactive object (such as a crate or bookshelf), or digging at a location.
When determining an easy trail clue, there is a 25/99 chance for it to be a cryptic clue, for medium clue this chance is 20/99, and for hard clue 24/109.[1]
Within medium clue scrolls, a few cryptic clues may require the player to obtain a key as a drop from a monster nearby. This key allows access to the location of the clue scroll. Keys do not need to be obtained after unlocking the "way of the foot-shaped key" reward from the Treasure Trails Reward Shop for 750 Treasure Trail Points. Instead, the location is always unlocked.
