[00:11] Hi and good afternoon, Scapers.
[00:13] First of all, I'd like to apologize for going a bit quiet in the past month.
[00:16] You've had plenty to say about Menaphos, achievements and a few other updates,
[00:20] and it might have seemed like we were tucking our heads in the sand or popping off to the pub.
[00:24] In reality, we've been deep in discussion as a team.
[00:26] We've been so focused on Menaphos and the determination to get it ready that we've neglected the wider game.
[00:31] So we've been making a big change or two.
[00:33] Note that we have a habit of announcing that we're going to make changes,
[00:36] and this time we want to talk to you about the changes we've already made.
[00:39] Expect us to go into more detail on Tuesday's livestream as well as regular video-and-newspost updates like this one.
[00:45] Let's put a date in the calendar.
[00:46] Friday 28th July seems like a good time to check back in on what we're doing with another post.
[00:50] First of all, I'd like to talk about expansions.
[00:53] While many of you have liked or even loved Menaphos, it's fair to say that it's had its problems.
[00:57] Regardless of whether you felt it was complete, we underestimated how much of our focus it'd take up.
[01:02] We've neglected other updates as a result.
[01:04] The release schedule has felt a wee bit empty either side of Menaphos
[01:08] and it's clear that regular updates is something that makes RuneScape RuneScape.
[01:11] The game feels less alive without them.
[01:13] So, for this reason, we are suspending development on all future expansions.
[01:18] We might release expansion-sized updates like Elf City in the future,
[01:21] but we won't be committing to a sequence of them and there'll be no additional expansion this year.
[01:25] I know that might sound dramatic, but hear us out and find out why we think this is for the benefit of RuneScape.
[01:31] Let's start with the Ninjas.
[01:33] You'd be hard-pressed to find someone who doesn't like a Ninja fix.
[01:36] That particular fix you've been waiting for can often have a greater impact than a conventional update.
[01:41] But colossal projects like the Bank Rework have been blocking the team
[01:45] from strengthening weeks with essential quality-of-life improvements.
[01:48] That's a real shame. We miss those updates.
[01:51] So, three weeks ago we made the decision to double the number of developers and testers on the Ninja team.
[01:56] Thanks to those additional developers and testers, we'll be releasing Ninja fixes like the following throughout July.
[02:02] Quick Prayer Presets that allow you to define a bunch of different prayers and curses to be turned on via one action.
[02:07] An Aura Bag to manage and unlock loyalty auras
[02:10] Barrows, Shadow, Third Age and Blood dyes being added to Telos weaponry.
[02:13] That's just a taste of the updates you can expect regularly. We've got many more for August.
[02:18] And don't worry, the Bank Rework is still very much a thing.
[02:20] We're determined to keep the quality of these fixes high and we've got a plan for how we might do that.
[02:24] And that plan is polls.
[02:26] We know that we've tried polls before but, while they're flawed, they work.
[02:30] It just feels right to be involved and, as such, polls are coming back in a big way.
[02:34] The plan is that we poll as many of our updates, fixes or improvements as we can.
[02:38] Okay, now for the big one.
[02:39] For the foreseeable future, the Eternals and Titans will be delivering the updates that've been promised in the past.
[02:44] They'll be finishing updates that feel unfinished and improving the core of the game.
[02:48] Think area reworks rather than new areas and continuations of old questlines rather than new ones.
[02:53] Simply put, we want to pause for a moment and resolve the unfinished business in RuneScape.
[02:58] A good example is achievements.
[02:59] Let's not assume we've done it.
[03:01] We want to finish it, fix it, complete it and make it something that benefits the game for years.
[03:05] So, we are planning to bring in interface improvements based on your suggestions,
[03:08] including more achievements onscreen at one time and a player-inspect feature.
[03:12] Invention batch 2 is another strong example.
[03:14] You know it's coming, but we're expanding its remit so that it not only adds to Invention, but fixes it too.
[03:19] So, while you can expect devices, machines and benefits beyond level 10 for your gear, you can also expect fixes.
[03:24] These will include the removal of inspiration, making augmentors tradeable,
[03:28] and a clearer idea of which perks will come from which components.
[03:30] We now reach a bit of a quandary.
[03:32] In an ideal world, we'd show you a list of all of these updates, complete with their release dates.
[03:35] But that would only create more expectation, and add to unfinished business rather than deduct from it.
[03:40] Instead, we'd like to list ten updates that we're actively working on or researching.
[03:45] No dates attached. Just reassurance that we're looking at those right now
[03:48] and they'll be released only when they're ready and right for the game.
[03:51] So we have Bank Rework, Mining and Smithing, Clue Scroll Overhaul,
[03:54] Dailyscape reductions, Invention Batch 2, Achievement System finishing,
[03:57] Evil Dave Quest, Graphical Reworks, Combat Pets and Shattered World improvements,
[04:02] to make it more rewarding and varied.
[04:05] We'll be giving you progress reports on all of these.
[04:08] Expect the first on July 28th and regularly thereafter.
[04:11] We also want to get you involved in their priority and whether other updates should replace them on the list.
[04:17] With that in mind, it's time to mention The Big RuneScape Survey.
[04:21] On Tuesday 11th July, at the same time as the unfinished business livestream,
[04:25] we'll be launching The Big RuneScape Survey.
[04:27] This will be an open online survey that lists everything we consider good for the game
[04:31] and previously promised, announced or unfinished.
[04:34] We'll then ask you to prioritize them.
[04:36] Is a bunch of graphical reworks more important than a construction rework?
[04:40] Tell us and we'll use the results to prioritize the unfinished business stuff that you want
[04:44] and build a backlog of updates to work on.
[04:46] I've talked enough for now. We can catch up again on July 28th anyway.
[04:51] Remember to tune into the livestream on July 11th,
[04:54] when we'll be answering your questions and revealing The Big RuneScape Survey.
[04:57] On a personal note, I know these changes seem radical and probably rapid,
[05:02] but I'm convinced, having spent so much time reading your feedback, that it's the right direction to go in.
[05:07] Now it's your turn to tell us whether or not you agree.
[05:10] I just want to take a moment to say thank you so much for being so committed and passionate.
[05:14] We really are lucky to have you.
