Before While Guthix Sleeps[edit | edit source]

  • Darve: What's the device saying now?
  • Movario: I don't know. It's giving me strange readings...
  • Movario: I'm not even sure it's working any more.
  • Darve: This is a wild goose chase! We trek halfway across the world and there's nothing down here but this bunch of useless goblins!
  • Movario: I am sure my triangulation calculations indicated that the source of power was in this rough area...
  • Movario: I find it encouraging that it's pointed to somewhere where there actually are caves.
  • Darve: This part of the world is riddled with caves! It's hard not to hit a cave around here! Are you sure you're not just picking up these goblin lanterns or something stupid?
  • Movario: You should have more faith in my skills as a mage! I've been working on this for years-
  • Darve: Gah! We have an eavesdropper! Buzz off, adventurer - go talk to the goblins or something.
    • Player: Okay, I won't bother you.
      • Movario: That's what I like to see: a polite adventurer! Now, where was I...
    • Player: What are you looking for?
      • Darve: None of your business!
    • Player: Hey, I'm one of you guys! See this pendant? While wearing a pendant of Lucien.
      • Darve: Where did you come from? Who sent you? I'll have you know I'm the mage's bodyguard for this job. We don't need anyone else!
        • Player: No one sent me, I'm just nosy.
          • Darve: Well stick your nose somewhere else!
          • Movario: I'm sorry, but pendant or no pendant, this is a secret. I'm sure you understand.
        • Player: Lucien sent me.
          • Movario: He did not! If he had, I would be aware of it!
          • Darve: Don't try to lie to us! Now go away!
        • Player: [Charm] I'm sure you're a much better bodyguard than me... While wearing a Ring of Charos.
          • Player: I'm sure you're a much better bodyguard than me, but perhaps I can help in some non-bodyguarding way?
          • Movario: Well, we don't know how big this thing is. If we find it, I suppose we might need someone else to help us carry it.
          • Player: So, what are we looking for?
          • Movario: You're not very well briefed, are you?
          • Darve: To be honest I'm still a bit hazy on that point too.
          • Movario: *sigh*
          • Movario: Lucien has asked us to search for artefacts that give off a very specific type of energy. After many years of research, I think I'm finally drawing near.
          • Darve: You don't sound very sure.
          • Movario: Bah! My detection device is totally shot. I don't understand it.
          • Movario: I wouldn't hang around for now, adventurer. It could be a long while before I can get a clear reading.
          • Player: Okay, I'll be on my way.

After Ritual of the Mahjarrat[edit | edit source]

  • Movario: Ah, Player, you found this place too.
  • Player: What are you doing here?
  • Movario: Well, the Stone was here, but we're too late. Lucien seems to have moved it away. Still, this cave is very interesting. There's lots of residual energy from the Stone to study.
  • Player: I felt some energy myself when I entered the area.
  • Movario: Yes, from what I can tell, the energy increases one's potency in combat for a time. I've done a few experiments and discovered that the closer one is to the cave, the greater the effect. It seems to extend some way across the Wilderness and troll country before diminishing entirely.

Infernal Source[edit | edit source]

  • Movario: Blast, this infernal device isn't working. Too much local interference, maybe? If that were the case, though, does that me- Hey, are you here to help me find the Source?

Before completing the Archaeology tutorial[edit | edit source]

  • You need to complete the Archaeology tutorial before you can work at this site.
  • Speak to Acting Guildmaster Reiniger at the Archaeology campus, east of the Varrock lodestone, to learn more.

After completing the Archaeology tutorial[edit | edit source]

Below 20 Archaeology[edit | edit source]

  • You need 20 Archaeology to access this site.

With at least 20 Archaeology[edit | edit source]

First time[edit | edit source]
  • (Cutscene begins, and Guildmaster Tony starts narrating the following.)
  • I struggle to understand the monolith's directions to the 'Source'. It points north-west, but the distance and depth are unclear, variable.
  • At least Movario seems confident we are digging in the right place. He explores rumours of a cult that seemingly operated in this area throughout the Third Age.
  • Though what the Source itself actually is remains a mystery. Perhaps all of this is due to the chaotic nature of the thing?
  • The monolith revealed this chaotic nature to me. That is why it is so interested in learning more about the Source...
After solving all the mysteries[edit | edit source]
  • (Cutscene begins, and Guildmaster Tony starts narrating the following.)
  • Movario was right! The buried Star Lodge contained a secret cult dungeon hidden beneath it, and within that a portal to the Source itself!
  • How many were taken by this cult and sacrificed over the centuries? It's horrific to even think about.
  • To have your soul ripped out to power a portal to Dis, to bring forth demons into this world!
  • Dagon the Gatekeeper, an unwitting and unwilling partipicant in this hellscape, is as much a victim as those sacrificed. Is Dagon what the monolith desired we uncover?
Normal dialogue[edit | edit source]
  • (If some infernal dice have been lost:)
    • Movario: I have some strange infernal dice here somewhere. Did you lose them or something?
    • Take dice back from Movario?
    • Yes.
      • (The missing dice are returned.)
      • (Continues below)
    • No.
      • Movario: Fine, I'll hold them for now. You know, you really shouldn't play games with imps - they cheat all the time.
      • (Continues below)
  • (If the chaotic gatestone has been lost:)
    • (Without space in backpack:)
      • Movario: I'm holding on to this chaotic gatestone you bought.
      • You need 1 free inventory space.
      • (Continues below)
    • (With space in backpack:)
      • Movario: I found this chaotic gatestone - did you want it back?
      • Take chaotic gatestone relic component back?
      • Yes.
        • Player receives chaotic gatestone.
        • (Continues below)
      • No.
        • Movario: Okay, just let me know when you want it back.
        • (Continues below)
  • Select an option
    • Why are you the site manager here?
      • Movario: Because I'm quite well known for tracking down powerful magical relics from ages past. Wait, you're Player - you have already witnessed my greatness. Why am I explaining this to you?
      • Player: Oh, right, yeah. You're not a member of the Archaeology Guild, though, are you?
      • Movario: No thank you. I'm an independent contractor. Those guild members disparagingly refer to me as a 'pothunter', think that I'm only interested in the money and the fame. They're wrong. I'm interested in the power too!
      • Player: Okay. I can see why you were a great choice to manage this site, then...
      • Movario: Of course you do!
      • Player: That was sarcasm.
      • Movario: *sigh* Well, you'll see.
      • (Shows previous options)
    • What is this dig site about?
      • Player The Source? What's the Source?
      • Movario It's shorthand for the Infernal Source. Apparently, it's some long-lost and enormously powerful energy source.
      • Player Huh, like the Stone of Jas. I can actually see why you were chosen to find it. Is this it, then - the Jolly Boar Inn? What's the power source? Is it beer? Chaos gauntlets? Giant hairy cabbages?
      • Movario Philistine! This isn't the Source itself! My research has led me to this being the entrance to it, or at least AN entrance. Mark my words!
      • Player So what, we all just head inside and start drinking... I don't get it.
      • Movario Not the Inn, you buffoon. Beneath it! The Jolly Boar is built atop an older building called Star Lodge. My research leads me to believe it was buried by fallout from the Forinthry explosion. Guild members have dug out a tunnel going under the Jolly Boar. Start in there and look for...the Source!
      • (Shows previous options)
    • I want to talk about mysteries.
      • (If no mysteries have been uncovered:)
        • Movario: The only mystery I see is why you haven't made any progress towards finding the Source. Admit it, you've been slacking off in the pub!
      • (If no other mysteries than Eyes in Their Stars have been uncovered:)
        • (Before finding journal pages:)
          • Player: There's a gutted fireplace within the Star Lodge dig that seems to be missing some crests.
        • (After finding journal pages and before adding crests:)
          • Player: I've been finding writings from the supposed founder of Star Lodge, one Duchess Philippa Wharton.
          • Player: I get the impression there was more to this place than met the eye, that something sinister lurked beneath the lodge's veneer.
          • Movario: Indeed, others on the team have been suggesting similar. Some of them have mentioned a gutted fireplace that seems to be missing some crests. You should look into this more deeply.
          • Player: Well, one of the writings I discovered mentions a hidden path behind Star Lodge's fireplace.
          • Movario: Aha! This is it! This is the beginning of our journey here. What is required?
          • Player: There was mention of something called 'crests of Dagon' - four are needed in total, it seems, though one already sits in the fireplace mantle.
          • Movario: Hmm, some of the archaeologists here have been finding fragments of crest-like artefacts. Hopefully, we can find three that are intact enough to restore.
          • Movario: I'm intrigued by their name, though - Dagon. There's something familiar about that word. A name, perhaps?
        • (After adding two crests:)
          • Player: I've added a second crest of Dagon to the fireplace!
        • (After adding three crests:)
          • Player: The three required crests of Dagon have been placed around the fireplace! I think I heard a mechanical click when I placed it.
          • Movario: That was probably the hidden path being opened to you. Why rush back to me and not head in to explore?
          • Player: I don't know. I guess I was excited to share my progress.
        • (After uncovering the secret passage:)
          • Player: I've managed to unlock the fireplace's secret door and have pushed it open. There's a hidden passageway behind it!
          • Movario: Excellent work, Player. It is your discovery - you should forge ahead and explore. I'll instruct the team to start moving into the newly discovered area too.
        • (After climbing down the secret passage:)
          • (As below after the choices.)
      • Which mystery would you like to discuss?
        • Eyes in Their Stars
          • Player: Behind the fireplace is some sort of dungeon... It's not a pleasant place, on the surface of it.
          • Movario: A dungeon, you say? How intriguing. So it appears that the Star Lodge was a facade, hiding a dark secret?
          • Player: Let's explore this new dungeon area and find out, I guess...
        • Embrace the Chaos
          • (If the portal hasn't been reignited yet:)
            • (If the ritual circle hasn't been repaired:)
              • Player: I've found some drawings for a magic circle, which I believe is located at the dungeon's lowest point.
              • Movario: Now that sounds like forward progress! There should be some chalk down there, so you can redraw the magic circle.
              • (Continues below)
            • (If the ritual circle has been repaired:)
              • Player: I've redrawn the magic circle!
              • Movario: Excellent work, Player.
              • (Continues below)
            • (If no correct chants have been performed:)
              • Player: There are also three candle holders around the magic circle area.
              • Movario: No doubt part of the ritual. You should refresh those candles; I'm sure there should be a box of them down there somewhere.
              • (Continues below)
            • (If a correct chant has been performed:)
              • Player: I've refreshed some candles in the magic circle area.
              • Movario: Good. Make sure you've refreshed all of them, though. The ritual will not complete until you have done so.
              • (Continues below)
            • (If only one cultist's diary pages has been found:)
              • Player: Anything I need to do when lighting these candles.
              • Movario: You should be fine to just light them, however, if this magic circle is like to any I know, you will also need to chant a specific phrase over each candle.
              • Player: What if you don't know these chants? Can I just say anything?
              • Movario: No, that won't work. Keep excavating in the dungeon area. Something will turn up, I'm certain.
            • (If at least two cultist's diary pages have been found:)
              • Player: I've found some new journal entries, which I think contain ritual phrases related to the magic circle area.
              • Movario: Yes. Typically, such rituals require certain chants or phrases to be spoken aloud after lighting candles.
              • (Continues below)
            • (If one correct chant has been performed:)
              • Player: I've refreshed, lit and chanted over one of three candles!
            • (If two correct chants have been performed:)
              • Player: I've refreshed, lit and chanted over two of three candles!
          • (If the portal has been reignited but not entered:)
            • Player: I've managed to reignite a magic portal, but I'm wary of stepping into it for where it might take me...
            • Movario: Hmm. One would assume that this is how to reach the Infernal Source proper. Be bold, Player - lead the team towards the truth of this place.
          • (After entering the portal:)
            • Player: The magic cirle took me to a very strange space. I've never seen anything quite like it! It's a strange and chaotic space. I arrived high up, but the space descends quite far downwards...
            • Movario: I have taken a quick look myself. You have, indeed, discovered an entrance to the Source. My instruments confirm it! They point me towards the bottom of this space. There is something down there of great power...
            • Player: I also had a strange feeling of being watched.
            • Movario: As did I. I believe we are not alone in that place. Be wary, but continue to explore. Find a way down.
        • (Only after solving Embrace the Chaos:)
          • Contract Claws
            • (If the mystery hasn't been uncovered:)
              • Movario: Some of the team are reporting back about some strangely chaotic portals found within the Source. They are marked with signs of the zodiac...
              • Movario: There's also an unsettling number of gargoyle statues strewn about the place, so be careful in there.
              • Player: I'll see what I can work out.
            • (If the mystery has been uncovered:)
              • (If the mystery hasn't been solved yet:)
                • (If only Ophiuchus has been appeased:)
                  • Player: I've discovered there are gargoyles watching over the Source. I managed to appease one of them so far...
                  • (Continues below)
                • (If one to three other gargoyles have been appeased:)
                  • Player: I've appeased a bunch of the gargoyles hiding around the Infernal Source.
                  • (Continues below)
                • (If four or five other gargoyles have been appeased:)
                  • Player: I'm almost halfway done with placating the Infernal Source's gargoyles.
                  • (Continues below)
                • (If six or seven other gargoyles have been appeased:)
                  • Player: I've appeased half of the Malebranche gargoyles now!
                  • (Continues below)
                • (If eight or nine other gargoyles have been appeased:)
                  • Player: I'm around two-thirds through making sure the Source's gargoyles are appeased.
                  • (Continues below)
                • (If at least ten other gargoyles have been appeased:)
                  • Player: Almost there with the Malebranche gargoyles. I should be done soon...
                  • (Continues below)
                • Movario: How many do you think there are in total?
                • Player: Well, there's the one on the walkway from the portal chamber, plus one for each symbol of the zodiac...
                • Movario: So, that would suggest there are thirteen in all.
                • (Continues below)
            • (If the mystery has been solved:)
              • Player: All thirteen members of the Malebranche have been placated. The gargoyles in the Source will not interfere with our efforts.
              • Movario: Excellent work, Player! You've made the area safer for the team working on the site.
              • (Continues below)
            • (If some zodiac coins have been lost:)
              • (Without space in backpack for the coins:)
                • Movario: I'm holding on to some of those zodiac coins you found.
                • You need [number] inventory spaces.
              • (With space in backpack for the coins:)
                • Movario: I'm holding on to some of those zodiac coins you found - do you want them back?
                • Take coins back from Movario?
                  • Yes.
                    • (Missing coins are returned.)
                  • No.
                    • Movario: Fine, I'll hold them for now.
        • (Only after discovering Dagon Bye:)
          • Dagon Bye
            • (Before finding out the code:)
              • Player: Right, so... I've met a demon at the bottom of the Infernal Source...
              • Movario: Indeed, the workers on the site have been hearing and seeing strange things. You are still alive, however, so what does that mean...
              • Player: It's an infernal demon named Dagon. It's trapped within the heart of the Source...and it wants my help to break its contract.
              • Player: He's trapped within a strange cage surrounded by star signs.
              • Movario: Then I shall leave this in your hands. You have made contact, so you should see this through. Build trust with this Dagon.
            • (After finding out the code:)
              • Player: I've finally managed to discover the 13-digit code needed to free Dagon. Now to figure out how to actually input it...
              • Movario: Well, I'm afraid I can't much help. You're a natural at this by now, right? Either way, Dagon can probably assist.
            • (After receiving pact with Dagon:)
              • Player: So, any idea what this Pact with Dagon is good for?
              • Movario: It's a very rare and valuable prize, a contract with Dagon is what this is... Contracts with demons were very common back during the God Wars, but even then, not with an infernal!
              • (If the pact hasn't been signed yet:)
                • Movario: Let's see here... If you sign it, you will gain the ability to summon certain demons under Dagon's command. There are also instructions on here for how to go about doing so.
                • (Continues below)
              • Movario: There are no further costs to you either. 'This contract is for services already rendered.' For freeing Dagon and thus breaking his old contract, it will grant you this boon on an ongoing basis.
              • Movario: However, there is a cost required for each creature you summon - that's part of the process involved to invoke this contract. The process seems only slightly different from what you and I already understand of Summoning.
    • Bye.
      • Movario: Farewell, Player.
