When first I heard tale of this Raksha, I had little interest. This world is teeming with wildlife, and the various lizards hold little interest for me. Yet, as a member of the Kindra it was expected of me to learn of the situation, such that we could decide what to do with the thing. Upon closer investigation, however, my interest was piqued. My vote was to transport the beast here so that it could be more easily studied while still living. The Nodon architects have constructed a pen for it that should prove inescapable. the death of Varanus ensured we did not underestimate this creature's abilities. It is no ordinary dinosaur.

The council paid a visit to its new home once it had arrived and been sufficiently restrained. Upon seeing it for the first time, I became obsessed by it. This was no mere animal. I could already see in its eyes that it was searching for a weakness in the design of its cell, and I caught glimpses of some of its thoughts - they were quite, shall we say, colourful. Mostly red...

I did not hesitate in giving the recommendation to install multiple more safeguards. This entity cannot run loose in our new city. Installation of a large-scale hibernation system is now underway, so that we can keep it in a state of forced hibernation, but I immediately order that we perform some surgical removals of certain of its traits - its venom sacs to begin with, but it also appears to have abilities to generate electrical charges, which it employs as some form of active camouflage, and cold breath, the application of which I am uncertain.

Not only will removal of these abilities reduce risk in the event of it escaping, they will also be of value for my research. This I will handle personally, rather than leave to that Aughra female - as competent as she is at dissecting dinosaurs, this is council business.

I have had some success in grafting the Raksha's removed traits into a trio of female rexes of other classifications - a bagrada, corbicula and pavosaurus, to be specific. The abilities seem to have taken, albeit at a reduced level potency. That is perhaps for the better, as while these classifications of rexes easier for us to subdue and control, I do not want to create a new threat for us to contend with. Still, there are other traits that could give these dinosaurs greater worth, for instance our own fire-breathing and wings would be a significant improvement over their feeble roars and tiny arms. however, the concept of grafting kin traits directly leaves an ill taste in my mouth. Perhaps wings can be introduced by cross-splicing with the indigenous apoterrasaurs, and fire breath from some of the rarer salamanders found on this island.

My end goal is for this trio of rexes to act as the matriarchs of a new breed of dinosaurs. While they may have their uses now, they could be improved upon, made more akin to us, and thus more useful as a result. It will also allow us an opportunity to both better understand them and also to subdue them. We cannot allow another incident like the Raksha. dragosaurs - part kin, part dinosaur.

I have spent an inordinate amount of time in the south-eastern complex, in a monitoring chamber behind the Raksha's cell. This place has grown considerably since its first construction, to allow for installation of hibernation pods and this Kalistrak for monitoring.

Unfortunately, this has also drawing wider attention from the rest of the colony. After learning of dinosaurs under the tutelage of Kranon and Skeka, and by extension the death of Varanus, they are curious to see what we have contained here. For the sake of security, entry is not allowed - this is not some museum or petting zoo - but this does not discourage visitors.

Of most consternation is an influx of the youngest generation of Aughra. They visit the complex to show reverence...borderline idolatry, even. Their interest lies in the creature's ability to impose its thoughts on others. Indeed, even in forced hibernation, as it has been for many years now, its will still sometimes manages to overcome the dampening and reach out. The young Aughra have taken to standing around the feeding pit to experience these thoughts. Such thinking must be discouraged. The council must move to censure Skeka and this cult-like behaviour she is instilling in these young - for who else but her would be encouraging such free-thinking?

Still, I have found absorbing these thoughts myself to be quite revealing. It has taken me many nights sitting within the Raksha's chamber, and I believe I have made a discovery - why it is how it is. There is a repeating image I see now - a circle flanked by two triangles - which I believe to be the origin of this dinosaur's mutations, for I believe it was not always like this, and was at one time just a rex like any other.

This information could be just the breakthrough I have been looking for. If such a thing can turn an ordinary rex into the monster that is Raksha, just think what the keen intellect of a Dactyl scientist could achieve with such knowledge. I have made plans to travel to the mainland to the west to explore the Raksha's hunting grounds in search of this mysterious shape.
