Transcript of Fall and Rise
Athlete's journal pages[edit | edit source]
The moment Queen Efaritay revealed her plans to hold a version of the Dominion Games on this world, I pledged to be a contestant. These first games will consist primarily of flight-based events of speed and precision. Hoops and pylons have been constructed around Everlight to act as obstacles and goals.
Other planned events include the javelin and discus throws, a carryover from the days back on Hallow where the games were used to encourage and develop martial prowess. Most obvious of these types of event are the arena sparring ones - they started out as wrestling bouts, but quickly progressed to using wooden swords and wicker shields.
It's almost as if Saradomin is preparing us for endless war or something. I suppose I shouldn't complain, for I do get to live my life as an athlete and not a soldier, as an inspiration to others.-Padosan
Since my wins at the last Dominion Games, my brother, Padomenes, has arrived here. I barely gave him a chance to land before I'd encouraged him to sign up! We have always been friendly rivals, and what better forum to express that rivalry than in front of a crowd of thousands? That way, when he inevitably loses, he can't squirm out of it and pretend he still won, like he always used to when we were children.
He always refused back home on Hallow, but this is a new world for us and a new beginning.-Padosan
It matters not that I beat him in the sprint, because I have lost the marathon. I got to enjoy the look on Padomenes's face for but a moment - his frustration that I so easily passed him before the final hoop was quickly replaced by one of horror, as he saw the collision before I. I turned back for but a second to rub in my victory, not realising I was on a collision course with the hoop itself. He cried out a warning, but we both noticed too late.
The healer, Juros, told me the news after I regained consciousness. My wounds will heal, but...
I will never fly again.-Padosan
This year's Dominion Games are being opened up to some of the races either allied to or friendly with the icyene! New events will be introduced - archery for the centaurs, track races on the ground for the humans, and in the sea for our siren friends. Juros has become something of a pen pal to me since my accident, and I have encouraged him to attend, perhaps even participate. His trade is primarily that of a seasinger healer, but he has ever boasted of his speed under the waves. If I cannot participate myself, I can at least live vicariously through my friends.-Padosan
The previous games inspired me. Seeing the feats performed by our allies brought a passion and hope back into my life that I had lost. So what if I can no longer fly? I can run, I can throw, and I can swim! Padomenes is even sparring with me now to fight in the arena - it's the one thing he was always better at than me. But I jest - I have learned from my mistake, and shall endeavour to not be so prideful and boastful in future.
That said, there is no point competing if you don't set out to win, so I am learning to shoot more accurately than the centaurs, swim faster than the sirens, and run further than the humans! A challenge, yes, and perhaps an impossible one, but I shall work harder than ever before to try to meet it.-Padosan
