Starting the miniquest[edit | edit source]

  • Ichi: Hello, weary traveller. Welcome to Cyclosis! I am the khan here. I am Ichi.
  • Player: Have you tried using any ointments?
  • Ichi: Haha! You westerners and your jokes. You will find that the people of Cyclosis are friendly and kind. Please, make yourself at home.
  • Player: I have to admit, you're not what I was expecting. The cyclopes back west are quite aggressive.
  • Ichi: Yes, that is something of a sore issue for my people. Our ancient history is filled with war and death, but here among these islands our kind have found peace. The cyclopes of old followed a warrior called Bandos, but these days he is mostly known among my people as the Three-eyed Craven.
  • Player: So, a triclops?
  • Ichi: He led our people down a dark path, but his influence over us ended long ago, and we have been free to develop our own customs and way of life.
  • Player: Well, this certainly seems like a lovely island.
  • Ichi: Yes, well, usually it is. However... No, bear me no mind. You are a visitor here; you need not burden yourself with my problems.
  • Lookout Ekahi: Please do not hold back, my khan. I am certain Player can help, whatever the problem might be.
    • ACCEPT
      • Player: You don't need to ask. I'd be happy to help. What's the issue?
      • Ichi: My fellow cyclopes are going missing. It started only recently, but already five of our brothers and sisters have been taken.
      • Lookout Ekahi: Taken by what, my khan?
      • Ichi: We do not know. All we know for sure is that it happens at night. Nothing untoward occurs during the is life as usual...but come morning, one more of us will have gone.
      • Player: Have you tried setting a watch?
      • Ichi: Of course. Watching is kind of our thing, but we have seen nothing.
      • Lookout Ekahi: We shall discover who or what is behind this. Player, tell me when you are ready and we shall begin our evening vigil.

Talking to Ichi again[edit | edit source]

  • Ichi: Please, talk to Ekahi. He appears to have a plan in mind.

Talking to Ekahi[edit | edit source]

  • Lookout Ekahi: Player, tell me when you are ready and we shall begin our evening vigil.
    • Yes.
    • You wait until nightfall.
    • No.

Night Watch[edit | edit source]

  • Player: So, what's the plan, Ekahi?
  • Lookout Ekahi: I am a lookout, so I will do that.
  • Player: That's not a very detailed plan. I'm sure that's all Ichi and the others tried to do, to no avail.
  • Lookout Ekahi: Unlike most Cyclopes here, I have perfect eyesight, and have trained myself to see in the dark. If there is anything to see I wi- There! Movement by the towers.
  • Lookout Ekahi: (In the chat interface.) It's zyclopes! They are heading towards the huts in the north-west!

Talking to Ekahi before defeating the zyclopes[edit | edit source]

  • Lookout Ekahi: No time for words. Action is called for.

After defeating three Zyclopes[edit | edit source]

  • Lookout Ekahi: (In the chat interface.) Captain! More zyclopes are coming, heading to the south of the island!

After defeating twelve Zyclopes[edit | edit source]

  • Lookout Ekahi: (In the chat interface.) Captain! Even more zyclopes, heading to the north-east of the island!

Talking to Ekahi after defeating the zyclopes[edit | edit source]

  • Lookout Ekahi: It appears we have fended off the assault. Let us rest up, and report back to Ichi in the morning.
    • Yes.
    • You rest until morning.
    • No.

The Next Morning[edit | edit source]

Talking to Ekahi[edit | edit source]

  • Lookout Ekahi: During the zyclops attack, I noticed something...odd, one of them was carrying.
  • Player: What was it?
  • Lookout Ekahi:, I must have been seeing things. Pay me no mind, captain. It can't be what I thought. I do not wish to raise alarm unduly.

Talking to Ichi[edit | edit source]

  • Ichi: Thank you for fending off those zyclopes! I cannot thank you enough.
  • Player: You know what they are?
  • Ichi: Zombiism is a prevailing issue in these parts. Mostly you will find it happens to human pirates, but there are occurrences of other races being cursed so. I have never seen a zyclops in my time as khan, though. This is most troubling. This does answer the question of what happened to my missing villagers, though not why.
  • Lookout Ekahi: What would you have us do, Ichi?
  • Ichi: Please, go talk with the mystic, See. She might know how to proceed.

Talking to Ichi again[edit | edit source]

  • Ichi: Have you spoken to See yet? She lives in the Moon Tower.
  • Player: I'll go on ahead and talk to her.

Talking to Ekahi[edit | edit source]

  • Lookout Ekahi: Please go ahead and talk to See. I have an errand I must attend to, but I shall join you later.

Talking to See[edit | edit source]

  • See: I See. You?
  • Player: Er, do you? With that weird hat on?
  • See: No. I am See - that's my name. Who are you?
  • Player: Player.
  • See: I see.
  • Player: You said that already.
  • See: You are here to ask me questions.
  • Player: Am I? Are you asking me that or telling me?
  • See: Yes.
  • Player: Er, okay.
    • Do you know anything about zyclopes?
      • Player: About the zyclops attack in the night.
      • See: Most of them were dead.
      • Player: Most zombies tend to be at least a little bit dead. What's your meaning?
      • See: They were the risen dead. Cyclopes I had seen buried here on moon-side. Our long and dear departed. Only some of the zyclopes were those recently gone missing.
      • Player: Is that significant?
      • See: Most zombies are created from the newly deceased, not that I am an expert on necromancy or anything. There must be powerful magic at work indeed to cause those long-deceased to rise again. More than magic...something spiritual or mystical, or possibly a disease.
      • Player: You think this could be a disease?
      • See: It is one possibility, yes. The point is, whatever the source, we have known methods of at least containing it. Salt?
      • Player: No, thank you. I've already eaten.
      • See: I am asking if you have any, not if you want any. Sea salt can be milled into finer granules by our cook, Sinuman. Once ground, get it blessed. Blessed salt is known to ward evil spirits of many kinds. Take some salt to Sinuman to grind down. She can tell you where to bless it. If you do not have salt, you can mine some from the crabs native to Cyclosis.
      • Player: How much salt?
      • See: Indeed. The salt never ends, for whatever we do, there is always saltiness. We must learn to find the salt delicious lest it pervade our lives, and to balance it out with the sweet.
      • Player: No, I mean how much salt is enough for me to gather?
      • See: Oh, about thirty crystals should do it.
    • What do you do here?
      • See: I contemplate the moon, and shall do so until it dawns on me.
      • Player: Isn't that a contradiction - moon, dawn?
      • See: It is a metaphor. Ancient cyclopean beliefs tell of the two creators - the Eyes in the Sky. Those being Hanalan - the sun - and Birman - the moon. When our path led us away from Bandos, we took back our old traditions. We are no longer naive enough to believe them being divine creators. Rather, we recognise the good and bad that both the sun and moon can bring, and that both are necessary for our way of life. As one of the eldest cyclopes, I hold the mantle of moon priestess, and represent the issues faced by those that live on moon-side. And I contemplate the teachings of Birman within the Moon Tower.
    • Can you tell me about Birman?
      • See: Birman is the Eye in the Night Sky. His eye is the moon, and his beard the stars. When he brings the night, he brings sweetness to the world with berries and coconuts, and sometimes a tiny umbrella.
      • Player: How does that work?
      • See: Hoo, boy. Well, if you don't already know, then I'm not the person to have 'the talk' with you.
    • Am I asking, though, or just leaving?
      • See: You are leaving. See?

Asking See about the zyclopes again[edit | edit source]

  • See: You have See's answer - go gather salt and take it to Sinuman to crush, then to Daya to bless.

Talking to Ichi[edit | edit source]

  • Player: See says sun-blessed salt should spare some cyclopes. I need to take some sea salt to Sinuman to grind into granules, and then take that to Daya at the Sun Tower to be blessed. Apparently, I can then scatter the blessed salt across the threshold of your homes to keep the zyclopes at bay. She wasn't sure how to actually deal with the zyclopes themselves, though.
  • Ichi: Very good. Ekahi said to tell you he had an errand to run. Something he saw when the zyclopes attack had him spooked, but he would not say what.

Grinding the salt[edit | edit source]

  • Player: Hey, Sinuman, apparently you can grind down some salt crystals into finer granules.
  • Sinuman (food merchant): Did See send you? That old bat knows I'm all about the sweetness. I don't do salty.
  • Player: It's important. I need to get some blessed to stop the zyclopes from attacking at night.
  • Sinuman (food merchant): Ah, fine. I suppose just this once. Hand me thirty sea salt crystals and I'll grind them up for you.
    • (If the player does not have enough salt in their inventory.)
    • Player: I don't have anywhere near that kind of salt on me. I guess I'm just not salty enough to continue.
    • (If the player does have enough salt in their inventory.)
    • Player: Here, I have thirty sea salt on me now.
Sinuman grinds the salt.
  • Sinuman (food merchant): If you want to get this blessed, you should take it to Daya. He'll be at the Sun Tower, the lazy oaf.

Talking to Sinuman again[edit | edit source]

  • Sinuman (food merchant): How's that salt working out for you, sweetie?
  • Player: Just fine. Thanks, Sinuman.

Blessing the salt[edit | edit source]

  • Daya: Hey, there!
    • Do you know anything about zyclopes?
      • Daya: That's what attacked our homes the other night? Brr. That's not sunny. Did See send you? She suggested blessed salt, right?
      • Player: That's right, and I have some crushed salt with me.
      • Daya: Nice! Let's bless this salt!
      • Player: Okay, sure. Sow [sic] do we do that?
      • Daya: That's what I just did! Blessed it already. Check it!
      • Player: How? You just said 'Let's bless this salt!' - is that all it takes?
      • Daya: Well, I AM the sun priest! And it's more in the WAY I said it. Trust me, you're all set!
      • Player: Okay, so now what?
      • Daya: Take the blessed salt to Ichi. He'll tell you what's needed next. Have a sunny day!
    • What do you do here?
      • Daya: I contemplate the sun, and shall do so until it wanes on me.
      • Player: Isn't that a contradiction - sun, wanes?
      • Daya: We won't have sun forever. It may have returned every morning so far, but one day it won't. As one of the youngest cyclopes, I hold the mantle of sun priest, and represent the issues faced by those that live on sun-side. And I contemplate the teachings of Hanalan within the Sun Tower. I also like to keep my tan topped up and drink Sinuman's coconut drink things - they're lush.
    • Can you tell me about Hanalan?
      • Daya: Hanalan is the Eye in the Day Sky. Her eye is the sun, and her breath is the wind. When she brings the day, she brings saltiness to the world by drying out the sea into crystals.
      • Player: Sure, that sort of makes sense, I guess.
      • Daya: Hey, it's all metaphor. Us cyclopes are big fans of both saltiness and sweetness.
    • Nothing, thanks.
      • Daya: Have a sunny day!

Asking Daya about the zyclopes again[edit | edit source]

  • Player: What was I doing again?
  • Daya: Take that blessed salt I set you up with to Ichi. He'll know what's needed!

Talking to Sinuman[edit | edit source]

  • Sinuman (food merchant): Hey! I got salt in my berries!
  • Player: Ooh, that sounds serious. You should see a doctor.
  • Sinuman (food merchant): What? No! Sea my rumberries. When I crushed that salt for you it got mixed in. My whole batch is...
  • Player: I'm really so-
  • Sinuman (food merchant): DELICIOUS!
  • Player: Happy I could help.
  • Sinuman (food merchant): It's a new flavour sensation! Try some!
  • Player: No, I'm good. Thank you. I can take your word for it that your salty berries are delicious.

Looking for Ekahi[edit | edit source]

  • Player: I have some blessed salt. What should I do with it?
  • Ichi: I shall have each cyclops spread the salt across the threshold of their homes, and remain indoors until morning. However, night is about to fall, and I am worried about Ekahi. He has not returned from his errand.
  • Player: Thinking about it, I also haven't seen him for a while. Do you know where he went?
  • Ichi: He told me he was headed to the beach beneath where we are now. You will need to make your way around from the west of the island. We shall deal with the zyclopes. Would you go and find him? He's not safe out there at night.
    • Yes.
Night falls.
    • No.

  • Ichi: Find Ekahi. I am worried about him.

Confronting Jed[edit | edit source]

  • Undead Jed: Hello! Welcome to our little beach party. That's close enough.
  • Player: I know you. You're Jed. We killed you!
  • Undead Jed: Haha! Yes, I suppose you did. Well, no hard feelings, right? It happens.
  • Player: Wow, I have to say, you're taking it pretty well.
  • Undead Jed: Right, right. Yes. Very well, considering. I mean, it's not like I lost an eye. Oh, and my favourite waving arm - look!
Jed waves.
  • Undead Jed: See? It's useless. Look, I'll show you again.
Jed waves again.
  • Undead Jed: And I didn't totally lose my good looks. Plus my hair - it used to do this awesome floppy thing, but now, lost half of it. Totally fine. Don't want to kill you all horribly in the slightest. Nope, not this pirate.
  • Lookout Ekahi: Captain, stay back. He's unhinged. It's a trap.
  • Undead Jed: You shut up! This one, on the other hand, he betrayed me...and there's a price for that in my book. An eye for an eye, and all that. Ha! Which is funny, when you think about it...because he's a cyclops.
  • Player: Wait, are you behind all this? The missing cyclopes, the zyclops attacks? How is this possible?
  • Undead Jed: Oh, do I get to do my evil monologue, now? Goody! I thought I'd been lucky to escape that sea monster alive. Turns out I was only half right. The Harbinger scooped me up. Since you STOLE all my cargo, they weren't too pleased with me. They interrogated me for days, but me, I was clinging on for death. But nope, her captain wouldn't let me - she turned me into this...somehow. She's a cruel woman, that Captain Cora. I feigned being broken, though, and bade my time, then made my escape. The Harbinger has been hunting me ever since, and it looks like they've found me again.
  • Player: Why stay here? Why not run?
  • Undead Jed: Ha! I'm done for. You've seen to that. I've lost my men, my ships, my looks, my life AND my carefree attitude...thanks to you. No, all I have left to unlive for is my revenge. I figured this great lug would return home one day, and I've been here, waiting. The residual life energy of the interred cyclopes sustained me a little, but then I had to start taking live ones while I waited. It was just happenstance that my new, er, 'condition' seems to make his dead relatives a bit more lively too. So, why not, I thought - let's turn his brotheres and sisters all zombie and then sic them on his still-living friends.
  • Player: And now you get to kill him too. Is that it? I won't let you.
  • Undead Jed: Haha! Kill him? No, no, no. I'm not a monster. He's my old friend, my buddy, my pal. I saved his life once. He still owes me! I'm just here to collect!
Jed drains Ekahi's life energy.
  • Lookout Ekahi: What did you do?
  • Undead Jed: Just feeding on your life energy, taking back the life you owe me. Fair's fair!
  • Player: No! This time I'll make sure you're dead, Jed.
  • Undead Jed: Oh, that rhymes! Come on, then, dairy farmer. Let's fight!

After defeating Jed[edit | edit source]

  • Undead Jed: Whoops.
  • Player: We're not trading insults, you idiot. Toodles!

Talking to Ekahi[edit | edit source]

  • Player: Jed's dead, Ekahi. Jed's dead.
  • Lookout Ekahi: Captain, I don't feel too good...
  • Player: Let's get you back to the ship.

Next Day[edit | edit source]

  • Lookout Ekahi: Captain, whatever Jed did to me...I feel, different.
  • Player: You look different too - I'd say a little bit zyclopean.
  • Bosun Higgs: Wait, Jed did this? I'll kill him! Where's he at?
  • Player: He's dead, Evie, and for good this time. I think.
  • Lookout Ekahi: I can feel myself turning. I do not like this. I am...hungry.
  • Navigator Jemi: Oh, no. Poor Ekahi.
    • (If you have recruited Flippers McGraw.)
    • Flippers McGraw: Oh, come on, we can't have a zombie-pirate crew - that's so cliche!
    • Quartermaster Gully: Pipe down, fish face. Ekahi is one of us. (Continues below.)
  • Quartermaster Gully: Cap'n, we can't hang around. That Harbinger ship is circling around Cyclosis, headed right for us.
  • Player: Yes, Jed coughed up some information on that ship. She's captained by someone named Cora.
  • Quartermaster Gully: Cora? Now that's a name I've not heard in a long time.
  • Player: You know her?
  • Quartermaster Gully: No, it can't be my Cora. She died many years ago. It's just not a common name in these parts.
  • Navigator Jemi: Oh! Tuai Leit! We should go to Tuai Leit! My old sensei might know how to help Ekahi. Talk to me about it before we sail there.
  • Player: Alright, then. Let's not hang around.
