Dagon the Gatekeeper[edit | edit source]

Introduction[edit | edit source]

  • Dagon the Gatekeeper: Who approaches Dagon the Gatekeeper? You are not of the Order of Dis.
  • Player: I am Player, and no, I am not of the Order.
  • Dagon the Gatekeeper: Good, that confirms they have fallen. I had assumed as much, given the lack of contact for over two millennia. That and, if the Order were still around, they would have stopped you reaching this place.
  • Player: And you've just been waiting here this whole time?
  • Mystery Uncovered: 'Dagon Bye'.
  • Dagon the Gatekeeper: I am not waiting. I am trapped. I was tricked into a contract by Duchess Wharton so many years ago, and have hated this place ever since. While not a prisoner, I am literally unable to leave so long as my contract stands. However, if my contract were to be voided in some way... It states that I may only break my contract if this place falls into enemy hands, in order to help protect its secrets.
  • Player: Are you calling me an enemy?
  • Dagon the Gatekeeper: For the purposes of my contract, you would be, for you are not of the Order. Though you need not actually be my enemy unless you choose to be, but I hope you will not do that.
  • Player: Why would I care to assist a demon?
  • Dagon the Gatekeeper: Helping me helps you. If you achieve my aims, you would banish me from this place, but in turn I would owe you a debt, should you value such a thing. This place, you see, is a portal to Infernus. It is the bridge that demons transversed many millennia ago to find in the wars of gods. Once my contract is voided, it decrees I return to my home there. There is enough residual energy left for one more return trip.
  • Player: So, if I am anti-demon, you get gone, and if I'm pro-demon, I get an IOU. Okay, what would helping you entail?
  • Dagon the Gatekeeper: To gain control of the gate, you must reinitialise it. There is a 13-digit code that must be correctly input.
  • Player: Sounds simple enough in theory. What's the catch?
  • Dagon the Gatekeeper: Very astute - there is always a catch, isn't there? That's how I ended up in servitude to some fanatical humans. The catch is that I only know the final number in the sequence. The rest are held by my attendants - the Malebranche. They are a series of gargoyles also sat watch around the Source. Each of them knows only one of the other twelve digits.
  • You find Zodiac code.
  • Player receives Zodiac code.
  • Dagon the Gatekeeper: Take this page to note the numbers as you learn them. Track them down, appease them and learn their numbers. Their order forms the code sequence, and the first of them is Cagnazzo. You will find it through the Aries portal on the upper ring. It also likes dogs, so have one alongside you when you go to meet with it...
  • (If the Player has already gotten the zodiac number from Cagnazzo:)
    • Player: Oh, I've already done that!
    • Dagon the Gatekeeper: Then let us deal with the next in sequence.
    • (If the player has already received all the numbers:)
      • Player: Actually, I think I've got all of the Malebranch's numbers!
      • (Continues below)
    • (If the player has not received the second number:)
      • (Transcript missing. edit)
    • (If the player has not received the third number:)
      • Dagon the Gatekeeper: Third of the Malebranche is Alichino, through the Gemini portal. What did the previous gargoyle hint at?
      • Player: Hmm, let me check my journal...
      • (Ramblings of a gargoyle, sequence 2 opens.)
    • (If the player has not received the fourth number:)
      • Dagon the Gatekeeper: Fourth of the Malebranche is Rubicante, through the Cancer portal. What did the previous gargoyle hint at?
      • Player: Hmm, let me check my journal...
      • (Ramblings of a gargoyle, sequence 3 opens.)
    • (If the player has not received the fifth number:)
      • Dagon the Gatekeeper: Fifth of the Malebranche is Graffiacane, through the Leo portal. What did the previous gargoyle hint at?
      • Player: Hmm, let me check my journal...
      • (Ramblings of a gargoyle, sequence 4 opens.)
    • (If the player has not received the sixth number:)
      • Dagon the Gatekeeper: Sixth of the Malebranche is Ciriatto, through the Virgo portal. What did the previous gargoyle hint at?
      • Player: Hmm, let me check my journal...
      • (Ramblings of a gargoyle, sequence 5 opens.)
    • (If the player has not received the seventh number:)
      • (Transcript missing. edit)
    • (If the player has not received the eighth number:)
      • Dagon the Gatekeeper: Eighth of the Malebranche is Malacoda, through the Scorpio portal. What did the previous gargoyle hint at?
      • Player: Hmm, let me check my journal...
      • (Ramblings of a gargoyle, sequence 7 opens.)
    • (If the player has not received the ninth number:)
      • Dagon the Gatekeeper: Ninth of the Malebranche is Calcabrina, through the Sagittarius portal. What did the previous gargoyle hint at?
      • Player: Hmm, let me check my journal...
      • (Ramblings of a gargoyle, sequence 8 opens.)
    • (If the player has not received the tenth number:)
      • Dagon the Gatekeeper: Tenth of the Malebranche is Barbariccia, through the Capricorn portal. What did the previous gargoyle hint at?
      • Player: Hmm, let me check my journal...
      • (Ramblings of a gargoyle, sequence 9 opens.)
    • (If the player has not received the eleventh number:)
      • Dagon the Gatekeeper: Eleventh of the Malebranche is Farfarello, through the Aquarius portal. What did the previous gargoyle hint at?
      • Player: Hmm, let me check my journal...
      • (Ramblings of a gargoyle, sequence 10 opens.)
    • (If the player has not received the twelfth number:)
      • Dagon the Gatekeeper: Twelfth of the Malebranche is Draghignazzo, through the Pisces portal. What did the previous gargoyle hint at?
      • Player: Hmm, let me check my journal...
      • (Ramblings of a gargoyle, sequence 11 opens.)
  • (If the player has not already gotten the number from Cagnazzo:)
    • (Transcript missing. edit)
  • Dagon the Gatekeeper: Excellent. Then I shall activate the zodiac lock for you to input the code. The 13th number is 4.
  • Zodiac lock activates, with fire coming out of each of the zodiac signs.

Afterwards without all the numbers received[edit | edit source]

  • (A hint from above dialogue is repeated.)

After pressing an incorrect sign[edit | edit source]

Talking to Dagon the Gatekeeper[edit | edit source]

With no digits input[edit | edit source]
  • Dagon the Gatekeeper: The first number is 0.
With one digit input[edit | edit source]
With two digit input[edit | edit source]
With three digit input[edit | edit source]
With four digit input[edit | edit source]
With five digit input[edit | edit source]
With six digit input[edit | edit source]
With seven digit input[edit | edit source]
With eight digit input[edit | edit source]
With nine digit input[edit | edit source]
With ten digit inputn[edit | edit source]
With eleven digit input[edit | edit source]
With twelve digit input[edit | edit source]
  • Dagon the Gatekeeper: The thirteenth and final number is 4; however, that is moot, for there is only one button active for you to press.
  • (Same as below)
Resetting the lock[edit | edit source]
  • Dagon the Gatekeeper: If you feel you have messed up, I can reset the lock for another attempt...
  • Have Dagon reset the zodiac lock?
    • Yes.
      • The zodiac lock has been reset.
      • Dagon the Gatekeeper: Would you like a hint?
      • Would you like a hint from Dagon?
        • Yes.
          • (On first time:)
            • Dagon the Gatekeeper: That's not it.
            • Player: Yeah, I gathered. Not a great hint, Dagon.
            • (Continues below)
          • (On second time:)
            • Dagon the Gatekeeper: Hmm, maybe next time.
            • Player: You aren't very good at giving hints!
            • (Continues below)
          • (On third time:)
            • Dagon the Gatekeeper: The numbers must refer to the zodiac signs somehow...
            • Player: Maybe those zodiac coins I found can help shed some light?
            • (Continues below)
          • (On fourth time:)
            • Dagon the Gatekeeper: The number four occurs a lot in the code. Do the majority of zodiac signs share a common trait?
            • Player: Other than Libra, I think they're all animals.
            • (Continues below)
          • (On fifth time:)
            • Dagon the Gatekeeper: I have it! The value of each zodiac sign is denoted by the number of limbs the related creature has!
            • Player: And the newly active buttons seem to move further and further when I get a press correct!
            • (Continues below)
          • (On sixth time:)
            • Dagon the Gatekeeper: Virgo, Aquarius and Gemini are sometimes depicted as humans - two in Gemini's case.
            • Player: So it stands to reason Gemini equals eight?
            • (Continues below)
          • (After the sixth time:)
            • Dagon the Gatekeeper: Pisces the fish has no limbs. Sagittarius the centaur has six limbs. Oh, and don't get caught out by Capricorn - it's a strange two-legged 'sea-goat' thing, not the typical four-legged land-goat variety.
            • Player: Of course! And Libra must be a zero too. There are some odd zodiac signs...
            • (Continues below)
          • (If the wrong sign was pressed:)
            • Player: Hmm, that must have been wrong. Let's try this again...
          • (If the puzzle was requested to be reset:)
            • Dagon the Gatekeeper: It is done.
        • No.
          • (If the wrong sign was pressed:)
            • Player: Hmm, that must have been wrong. Let's try this again...
          • (If the puzzle was requested to be reset:)
            • Dagon the Gatekeeper: It is done.
    • No.
      • (Dialogue ends)
With all digit input[edit | edit source]
  • Spikes on the locks start to retract into the ground. Once all have retracted, Dagon flies into the air and comes down and the hydra gate disappears.
  • Dagon the Gatekeeper: You...you have done it! I am free! After all of these centuries alone, trapped in this damnable place.
  • Player: And now this is the part where you betray me, right? I am the 'enemy of Dagon', yes? That's how this usually goes...
  • Dagon the Gatekeeper: What? No! Infernals are demons of their word. I do not know the events of history since the Duchess tricked me into this contract, but is it so bad as to make humans cynical of the integrity of my kind?
  • Player: Oh! Er, well, most demons I meet are pretty aggressive, and a number have tricked me. Maybe not outright lying, though. I guess do know a few that are friendly.
  • Dagon the Gatekeeper: Well, this is a sorry state of affairs. You can rest assured this will not stand. Now that my contract is void, I shall seek to instil some honour among my kind once more. I still likely have some contracts and friends in Pandemonium, and I intend to remove the tarnish of my kind's reputation. I thank you again, Player, and with the other part of my pledge to you. Simply sign this pact and I shall grant you the power to bind demon souls to do your bidding.
  • Player receives Pact of Dagon.
  • Congratulations! You have completed: 'Dagon Bye' - Solve this mystery.
  • You gain 8,400 Archaeology XP for completing a mystery!

Zodiac numbers[edit | edit source]

The following text is transcluded from Transcript:Zodiac code.

(The undiscovered numbers in the code below are replaced by question marks.)
Zodiac code: 0-4-8-4-0-0-4-4-6-0-2-4-4.

This is a sequence of thirteen numbers that is somehow used to open the zodiac lock at the bottom of the Infernal Source. Dagon will tell me the thirteenth number once I have collected the other twelve numbers, each one given by a member of the Malebranche, a collection of gargoyle wardens also found within the Infernal Source. Dagon will assist me in tracking down and appeasing each member of the Malebranche.
