Before joining the Imperial Guard[edit | edit source]

  • Player: Hi!
  • Captain Jute: Ah, a new recruit! Good, you're just in time.
  • Player: Uh, what? I'm no-
  • Captain Jute: It's always good to see fresh blood on the ground. You can take over from Wilkins - he's never been quite right...ever since the explosion.
  • Player: Explosion? What? I can't take over for anyone. I don't know what to do!
  • Captain Jute: We all feel like that the first few days, lad/lass. You'll come to grips with it soon enough.
  • Player: But I'm not a new recruit! I don't know what I'm doing! I don't even know who you are!
  • Captain Jute: Why, I remember when I first joined the guard... Captain Murry threw me off the defence into th- Wait, what? You're not a new recruit? Hmm, now that you mention it, you are out of uniform, soldier.
  • Player: That's because I don't have a uniform! I don't work for you.
  • Captain Jute: Well, we can fix that soon enough. Lad/Lass. Would you like to join the Imperial Guard and defend Burthope from the most vile of creatures? Put your life on the line to keep at bay the scum of the earth? Risk your health to-
  • Player: I get the idea!
  • Do you want to join the Imperial Guard?
    • Yes, I'll join.
      • Player: Yes, I'll join the Imperial Guard.
      • Captain Jute: Fantastic! You are in for the thrill of a lifetime. The adventure of the ages. The journ-
      • Player: What do I have to do?
      • Captain Jute: Hmm? Oh, of course. I'll make it quick. We can't dilly-dally. Monkey about. Sit on our bu-
      • Player: *ahem* You were explaining?
      • Captain Jute: Every month, you can come back here and help defend the gatehouse.
      • Player: Why every month? Aren't trolls invading all the time?
      • Captain Jute: Yes, but due to union regulations we can only have each shift work once a month. There are two things you can do to help the gatehouse. You may only choose to do one to gain a reward. You can still play the other, for practice, any time you like. So, things you can do to help defend the gatehouse... First, you can fight trolls. You stand alone in front of the gate and fight off as many trolls as you can until you die.
      • Player: What? Until I die?
      • Captain Jute: Well...maybe not die. Basically, we leave you out there until you 'almost' die, then drag you back in. That way you don't lose any of your stuff.
      • Player: Okay, what's the other thing I can do?
      • Captain Jute: Oh, that's much safer. Well, you won't die, but Norris did have a nervous breakdown a few weeks ago. I guess the strain of it got to him.
      • Player: Oh no.
      • Captain Jute: Basically, you run around repairing the gatehouse defences. Keep the oil drums full, repair barricade lines and gatehouse walls... You got all that?

        • Yeah! Let me at them.

        • No, I'd like a little more detail.
          • Player: No, I'd like a little more detail.
          • Captain Jute: Ah, the detail-oriented type. Cautious. Timid? Nah! You don't look timid! What do you want to know more about?
          • What do you want to ask about?
            • Fighting the trolls.

    • Not today, thanks.
      • Player: Not today, thanks.
      • Captain Jute: Suit yourself!

Afterwards[edit | edit source]

  • Captain Jute: Ah, Player! Back for more, are you? What can I do for you?
  • What do you want to say?
    • I want to start one of the activities.
      • (Transcript missing. edit)
    • I want to talk to you about rewards.
      • Player: I want to talk to you about rewards.
      • Captain Jute: Ah, the payoff. Incentive schemes. Points make prizes. Let's talk!
      • Player: I want to know about the rewards. What's in it for me?
      • Captain Jute: Isn't the glory of the battle enough? The adrenaline rush? The smell of troll sweat in the morning?
      • Player: Definitely not!
      • Captain Jute: People these days... I suppose I would be willing to impart some expertise to you in exchange for your help. The more you help, the more experience I'll give you. Just speak to me after you complete the event and I'll give you your reward.

    • Can you go over the activities again?
      • Player: Can you go over the activities again?

        • Summary.
          • Captain Jute: Every month, you can come back here and help defend the gatehouse.

        • Detailed.
          • What do you want to ask
            • Fighting the trolls.
              • Player: I want to know more about fighting off the troll hordes.
              • Captain Jute: Ah, after a fight, are you? Thinking of the sweat of battle? Pondering the smell of troll blood in the morning? Good for you! Fighting troll hordes is all about endurance. It's about showing your moxie. It's about perserverance in the face of unbeatable odds.
              • Player: Unbeatable?
              • Captain Jute: Well, maybe not unbeatable. More like very, very likely not beatable. The hordes get stronger and more difficult the longer you are out there. For the most part, the trolls are pretty run of the mill, but there are some that are a bit...unusual. Some trolls have eaten a few too many wizards and have gained magical powers. They'll drag you out from your hiding place and beat you to a pulp...like they did to ol' Ralph. Oh, and there are trolls that ate some druids and now they can summon other trolls - gave Derek a real shock when a troll popped out of the ground between his feet.
              • Player: That's what you call unusual?
              • Captain Jute: Oh, I haven't finished! There's some sort of flu or plague the trolls have caught and you'll want to avoid touching those ones. And it might be worth me mentioning that some of the trolls stole some explosives from us and like to use it against the castle. No big deal, just an explosion here or there.
              • Player: Explosives!
              • Captain Jute: And I nearly forgot about Cliff! He's a real nasty customer. Other than them, it's a piece of cake. Just make sure to go in prepared for long combat. You won't lose anything you take in unless you consume it.

            • Defending the gatehouse.
              • Player: I want to know more about defending and repairing the gatehouse.
              • Captain Jute: Ah, deliberating over the defence? Strategising your protective methods? Incentivising your grey cells to safeguard the gatehouse? Wonderful! Defending the gatehouse is all about speed and multi- tasking. It also helps if you're handy in Strength, Agility, Defence, Crafting, Construction and Firemaking. You don't have to have any levels in any of those to help out, but it will make your life easier!
              • Player: Oh, gee, is that all? Why not throw in a few more skills to 'make my life easier'?
              • Captain Jute: Hmm, I suppose we could, but let's see how you get on with these. It'll be easiest if I show you how it all works. Do you want to see?
              • Do you want to see the tutorial?
            • Once a month?
              • Player: I want to know more about only doing the event once a month. Does that mean I can only do the fighting or the defending? I can't do both?
              • Captain Jute: You can do one a month for reward, after that you can keep going if you wish for training for the following months attempt though. We in the Imperial Guard recognise that not all guards are cut out for both types of work. We like to be flexible in your schedules and workload, so you can do it whenever you like the month though.
