Strategies for Thaler
This guide demonstrates strategies and tips to gather Thaler during each minigame's spotlight, as well as outlining any other benefits to be made. The official world for Minigame Spotlights is worlds 65, where sometimes players can be found creating games to AFK in. However, depending on the minigame on spotlight, the world that specialises in the minigame may have more players.
Most minigames involve the player not participating in the minigame and gaining Thaler passively. It is important to stay aware of the log-out timer, which will log out players who have been inactive for five minutes.
Barbarian Assault[edit | edit source]
With four other players, create a team starting at Wave 1. Advertising a team as an "AFK team" (as opposed to an actual team playing the minigame). Once everyone is ready and the minigame has started, everyone should go to the Horn of Glory in the south-east corner. Assuming all players are on this section of the area, no monsters can attack them nor be damaged. This means that the wave can go for indefinitely long until a player leaves the minigame.
Because of the high bonus experience granted through Hard-mode Barbarian assault, it is more efficient to play hard-mode while gaining bonus experience in Agility and Thaler at the same time. However, this is not AFK.
If one player logs out, then the wave ends and all players are back in the hub.
Cabbage Facepunch Bonanza[edit | edit source]
Cabbage Facepunch Bonanza runs on an instance shard world, so finding players is almost never an issue. It is possible to completely AFK the minigame once you are loaded into the instance. However, if everyone in the instance turns into a Gorilla, then the game is over. This means that as long as someone is not AFK and is playing the minigame, games can last up to 15 minutes long.
While you are a gorilla, do not kill any players or place any traps so that the game may continue.
Castle Wars[edit | edit source]
Because of the achievement How Many Games?, there are players playing Castle Wars during the spotlight. Games are 50/50 as to which side wins the game, so if Thaler is your main concern then entering the Guthix portal will suffice.
The best strategy is to go into an obscure location upon entering the game. Such locations can be upstairs in your base, behind the staircase outside the spawn, or down in the underground area. This lowers your chance of being killed by players, from where after two minutes you can be kicked out of the game if you don't leave the room.
If you log out from AFKing for too long, you can log back in and still be in the current game (unless the game has ended).
Conquest[edit | edit source]
Conquest requires a second person to utilise an AFK method. The games can go on for as long as you want, but every 30 minutes each player must make a turn otherwise a forfeit is forced.
It is hard to find players in the Conquest area during the spotlight, so it is best to ask a friend.
Fishing Trawler[edit | edit source]
There is no official world to play Fishing Trawler, nor can it be AFKed effectively because of its activity bar. Thus, this is one of the worst minigames to gain Thaler on during its spotlight, but if you are looking to get the Shark's tooth necklace, then it is worthwhile doing it on spotlight.
Fist of Guthix[edit | edit source]
The official world for Fist of Guthix is not always popular, but there can sometimes be other players looking for games. Four people are required to start a game.
The most effective way to gain Thaler during this spotlight is to AFK at the centre of the arena. If you are the Hunter, then do not kill your opponent so that games can last longer. If you are the Hunted, then do not equip the stone of power unless you are able to watch your lifepoints.
Flash Powder Factory[edit | edit source]
Flash Powder Factory is one of the best minigames to AFK during spotlight because it does not require any other players and a round can be started at any time. It is advantageous to log out to the lobby just before your timer runs out so that you are not teleported out of the instance back into your original world. By going to the lobby and logging back in, you will remain in your instance with a fresh timer.
Owning the factory top allows games to run for an extra two minutes.
Heist[edit | edit source]
If you are a guard, it is beneficial not to catch any robbers so that games last longer. If you are a robber, it is beneficial not to steal any loot.
If you log out, then you are kicked from the game.
Pest Control[edit | edit source]
Because of the shortness of Pest Control games, it is quite hard to AFK Pest Control for Thaler. If you are looking to gain Void Knight commendation points then plenty of Pest Control games run during its spotlight.
However, if you have four other friends then it is possible to delay a game for its full duration (20 minutes). This isn't always possible because the Void Knight may die before time is up.
Soul Wars[edit | edit source]
Although Soul Wars has an activity bar, it is quite easy to bypass and gain Thaler while AFKing. By being in combat with a Pyrefiend or a Jelly, the activity bar does not decrease. This means you can tag the monster, step away so that you are not attacking it, and turn off auto-retaliate and AFK for the duration of the game.
It is possible for other players to kill your monster, so be alert if you need to tag another monster. If you log out, then you are kicked from the game.
Stealing Creation[edit | edit source]
There are always people playing Stealing Creation during its spotlight because of its bonus experience rewards. Simply join either team and AFK in the base for the full duration of the game. If you want, gather over 20,000 points so that you can receive at least 20 Stealing creation points.
However, it is important not to log out during a game because you may have to wait for the previous game to finish before a new one is started.
The Great Orb Project[edit | edit source]
Similar to Soul Wars, The Great Orb Project has an activity bar. To bypass it, continually attract your team's orb and don't move anywhere. As long as other players aren't repelling your orb, you can stay 'in-combat' with your orb for the whole duration of a round. Simply AFK each round.
Because there's no official world for The Great Orb Project, it can be difficult to find players to AFK with. A minimum of four players are needed to start a game.
Trouble Brewing[edit | edit source]
AFKing Trouble Brewing is as simple as idling in the lobby of the minigame.
