Rewards[edit source]

The rewards for the quest are known, as I just completed the quest, first one in RS, too, probably:

- 35k Agility Experience
- 20k Fletching Experience
- 20k Woodcutting Experience
- 20k Ranged Experience
- 2 Questpoints

In short, I can vouch for the rewards. I don't have a screenshot, since I'm actually at the university right now. The rewardedit was mine, btw, I forgot to log in.

Either way: It's not grandmaster. Please don't state that in the article. Thank you:) ArnoudX 14:27, October 13, 2009 (UTC)

I got screen shot of reward, I'll leave someone else to crop/cut it out

Not a GM quest[edit source]

WtL is not a grandmaster quest. [http://www.runescape.com/kbase/guid/within_the_light_members check here], it's onder MASTER QUEST. --Darth Stefan (Talk) 14:29, October 13, 2009 (UTC)

In-game it's listed under Grand master. Master wand.png~Masama~TalkMages' book.png 14:34, October 13, 2009 (UTC)
Aware of the situation. Semi-protection could be useful, as it's a newly released quest, and a new article. If only to avoid confused IP's that wish to help out from called it a GMQ. I expect lots of vandalism, too, though. ArnoudX 14:36, October 13, 2009 (UTC)
I'll check, though I disagree with JaGeX if it is listed as a GMQ after release. It was listed as a master before. ArnoudX 14:39, October 13, 2009 (UTC)
See [http://www.runescape.com/kbase/guid/master_quests this] WtL is listed as a master quest. --

Is it an error in-game then stating it's a GM? Master wand.png~Masama~TalkMages' book.png 14:48, October 13, 2009 (UTC)
Mod Emilee confirmed that the in-game list is incorrect. Quick find code: 15-16-402-59724757 84.31.21.179 14:49, October 13, 2009 (UTC)

Hmm, I'm surprised, as it is listed as a Master everywhere, though. Anyways, I'm not surprised, as it has very high requirements...--

Semiprotect please?[edit source]

I think we should really semi protect this page, as I looked at it when I logged in, and it was fine, I come back 20 minutes later and the quest template was ruined and there were all these links to "Within the Light/doc" and it was a mess. I cleaned it up to the best of my abilities, but I can't stop all vandals. And you know, the page has been updated 20 times in the last 10 minutes. I got two edit confilicts tryting to fix it. Confused --

I am against a protection, Yes, it is under a lot of editing, but why reserve the right of editing to just editors, there may be vandals, but there are other IP addresses who contribute good, solid information, I just reckon that editors should be alert and keep an eye out for vandals, use the history (Keep refreshing) if the Diff links do not work. Ruud (talk)(Suggest me naems) 15:04, October 13, 2009 (UTC)
While I agree with you, why won't they register if they keep contributing stuff? --Magnea8 - Profile and Talk. 16:41, October 13, 2009 (UTC)
Hey, I talked to Leevclarke, he said we can't protect a page if the edits haven't been vandalous. So, we're just gonna have to wait it out until the edits slow down, as they cannot protect a pagethat does not have a history of vandalism. --

I've been watching the page closely and there has been no vandalism in the last hour. We don't preemptively protect pages, so unless vandalism starts it won't be protected. kitty.pngPsycho Robot talkSilver bar.png 16:49, October 13, 2009 (UTC)
It is against general policy to ban all IP edits. From a purely philosophical side, by opening up the wiki to allow everybody to edit allows some good contributors to join us when they haven't had a whole lot of experience. Essentially this is a recruitment tool for our wiki, and blocking those who might be significant contributors in the future isn't a good way to start.
Revert the bad edits, and for those who are persistent, make sure that you report suspicious behavior so that it can be dealt with quickly. Usually is it just a single troll or two that causes problems and they can usually be dealt with quickly. --Robert Horning 16:51, October 13, 2009 (UTC)
As for me, I was of course referring to new pages with new content that suffer from vandalism, as I think not every page that is vandalized neccasarely requires semi-protection. ArnoudX 23:26, October 13, 2009 (UTC)
Semiprotect? No way. IP's contribute a lot, All Editors Are Equal, people just edit this one time becuase they see something isn't right (or incomplete). I know that didn't make sence, but I completely oppose semiprotecting this. Maybe some people have never seen the Wiki before and got this article on Google - they might be great editors, but when they see that they can't edit, they leave! Ancient talisman.png Oil4 Talk 18:03, October 13, 2009 (UTC)
I should also point out that, upon review of many of the IP edits (including some asserted to be vandalism), these were mostly folks who made at least reasonable contributions or at least made obvious new wiki user mistakes and not being blatant trolls or trying to cause mischief. Widespread trollish behavior might encourage me to try and semi-protect this article on a very temporary basis, but I don't see the reason to do it here. When this is done on Wikipedia, it is on an article that is 1) fairly well written already and 2) has been noted on a high profile website (like a major news outlet or something like Slashdot) which links explicitly to the article. I also don't see that as the situation in this case. **_IF_** an article is linked from the main page of Runescape by Jagex or some other very high profile location.... that might be a reason to semi-protect. We can only hope that might be the case in the future, can't we? --Robert Horning 14:07, October 14, 2009 (UTC)

noobie guide[edit source]

Here's my hurried guide for it as I need to go. Not much here but i thought i'd add it for those tryin to complete it

Talk to the Dude in llyetta to start, you need a distraction, a costume and to make a teleport thing -Costume can be gotten by killing a level 11 mourner on the path to priffyndis or whatever, the path where theres a big gate (near where making history starts) -distraction: go to the basement of the mourners hideout, steal the tarnished key and talk to the gnome and make a deal with him for him to distract the guards - Run to outside the temple, take off your mask and 'sing into the crystal' to make it a teleport spot. Teleport back to the dude in lyetta then he'll teleport with you. Run into the place, up the stairs, to the rleft, up the stairs, to the right, down stairs, down the big stairs then rotate the mirror so it's shining towards the death alter, talk to them, then use your crystal on the thingamajig that's floating outside. then go back in and they'll say something bigger or whatnot then you'll go into the death alter (they'll give tally) and then you'll climb up then you'll be enchanted for a while. run out, of death place, run past the 'light barricade' type thing then rotate the mirror, climb the stairs and while facing away from the stairs go left, then no up towards the crystal and use investigate it or something, then run back down and rotate the mirror and investigate the turning around thingamajig. You should get sucked into it. Then you'll have to search the body, cut the tree, put a hole in it, direct the light so it goes into the yellow coloured thingamajig on the opposite side (near the door) then you'll have to do a red and blue combination into the other coloured one, then a green and blue i think or green and red combo into the next coloured one, then all three into the black coloured one. then climb the ladder that appears then hop through (you can see on minimap where to go really) watch out for spikes! then shoot the big dart type thing into the target, then run back, and go through the door, search the elf, run back (i talked to the dwarf in the death alter cause the elf wasn't there but you might not have to) and then you teleport back to lyetta then talk to the dude and you finish the quest. Once again I'm sorry for unclear instructions, I'm in a rush and my memory is horrible! All in all it's not very long quest if you've got a guide for the maze (which i didn't!) in fact it's much easier than MEP2. Rewards are just XP.

P I got most of the things by guessing, except the last one which i finally figured out what I needed to do. :P  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 124.179.12.170 (talk) on 15:40, October 13, 2009.

View the guide[edit source]

I'm still new here, but I can't see any guide at all... despite when I try and edit, there's a lot of information there. It sure would have been nice to see all that when I worked through the quest. Penderwyll 16:44, October 13, 2009 (UTC)

Is it just my comp..[edit source]

Is it just my computer/browser, or does it seem that everytime someone changes the item requirements, the template messes up? I've probably been reverting it when I shouldn't have. :/ Master wand.png~Masama~TalkMages' book.png 17:23, October 13, 2009 (UTC)

Yes Masama, when I changed it the template messed up, though I'm almost sure I didn't do anything wrong. I changed it back btw. --Achilli 17:42, October 13, 2009 (UTC)

I fixed the items template section, and updated it. (moved the boost msg above the items, and removed empty line) (someone else has also updated it at this time)Rand14 18:49, October 13, 2009 (UTC)

Significance of the Crystal Puzzle[edit source]

On this thread, on the 6th post Mod Chris L says that no one has figured out the significance behind the crystal puzzle, and since I can't investigate it myself, I'm asking if anyone can help find what Mod Chris was talking about. So, what do you think? Quest map icon.pngBilly Bomb7Stories!Locked diary.png 17:52, October 13, 2009 (UTC)

I'm interested in this too. There's a thread on the official forums (15-16-832-59726755) where people are trying out things.  Tien  00:45, October 15, 2009 (UTC)

Mod Emilee stated that the "something about the puzzle" was simply that it is random for each player, quoting Mod Chris L:

Ok, I have to confess to this one – I think the comment was mis-interpreted as I was referring to the light puzzle technically, rather than actual hidden content (which now plagues my thoughts on how to get some in). What I was saying about that was most people I had chatted with didn’t realise the light puzzle is random. The 4 switches to unlock are not in the same location for everyone, so some people might have a bit of trouble trying it if they used a quest guide… I’ve already seen a few quest guides published with incorrect instructions!"

--Firblitz 19:01, October 16, 2009 (UTC)

Players may choose not to complete the quest.[edit source]

If you stop progress in the quest at a certain point, you have a relatively easy teleport to near dark beasts. Perhaps this should be mentioned.--Constitution cape.png csoursTalkIdeas Quest point cape.png 19:47, October 13, 2009 (UTC)

Death talisman?[edit source]

The 'items needed' section at the top mentions that a death talisman is needed but one is acquired during the quest. I did not receive one and had to teleport out and get one (an Omni-tiara actually) from the bank. Can anyone confirm that you do get one? If so, please add to the walkthrough how to get it.

By the way, once Thorgel enters the death altar, you can enter the death altar via the Abyss rather than going through the Temple of Light. If you do this before Thorgel enters the altar, once you arrive at the altar you need to leave through the portal, talk to Arianwyn first, and then return to the altar. Inelcirc 20:40, October 13, 2009 (UTC)

Talk to Arianwyn without a Death Talisman and he will give you one, provided you are up to the point where you have to enter the altar.  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 60.234.136.37 (talk) on 07:33, October 14, 2009.

Death in Within the light....[edit source]

Rimaluukko I tried everything I could think of to teleport back ......I tried everything everyone in my clan could think off.....nothing works.....it seems I must redo the whole quest which I had all but finished.....I have played this game for years but something like this makes you wonder why ....  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 203.213.245.140 (talk) on 20:09, October 15, 2009.

I died to and I had to go through the abyss to get to the death altar so I could get the crystal trinket back. Than I had to go in from the Ardougne side and turn the mirror so I could access the death altar. Than I had to redo the run and I could go back into the place. I did not have to redo the light puzzle though.--Quest point hood.png Bigm2793Talk Quest point cape.png 20:32, October 15, 2009 (UTC)

Death in Within the light..[edit source]

BIGM I don't mind the rest but I found the run a nightmare I tried for 2 days myself then had to ask a clan member to help me......I do not want to have to do this all again.....even in Summers End you didn't have to return to start if you died....I think it is grossly unfair they make you in this quest....  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 203.213.245.140 (talk) on 21:10, October 15, 2009.

It's just the layout of the area. How you managed to die in the jumping maze thing confuses me. Yes you take a little bit of damage if you're not careful, but if you took food and maybe Enhanced excalibur, it's easy and a there's a very little chance of death. If you managed to do Mourning's End part II, then this should have been a breeze. Think about it, the light that switches between the entrance to the death altar or the entrance to the temple can only open one door at a time. Both ways offer a way to get back in with relative ease. If the temple door's not open, the death altar is. If you remember, you can go through the underground pass, visit the dwarves and go through the crevice near them which leads to the Death altar. (Or you can use the Abyss) How do you think Thorgel got there in the first place? If the death altar door's not open, you can go straight into the temple via the Mourner HQ and the Temple of Light. It's not as hard as you think to get back. Black cavalier.png Zenihdrol Tribal top (blue).png 12:58, October 16, 2009 (UTC)

Death within the light[edit source]

You all seem to miss the point......which is: You don't have to redo the beams,so why must you redo the run?.....this is the only quest I can remember that if you die you had you redo the hardest part..........  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 203.213.245.140 (talk) on 20:55, October 17, 2009.

First of all, it isn't needed to start a section again with every thing you post, as long as they're about the same thing. Second, it isn't so hard, after you've done it once it's easy to repeat that. Third, even after the quest you have to do the run again each time you wanna go back there, or at least that's what it seems. Fourth, in Summer's End you gotta do the part where you were once again, and this isn't from the start in WtL either, it's just that run and you get back to the agility puzzle. Quest point cape detail.png Brux Talk 23:43, October 19, 2009 (UTC)
Also, I suggest that you go ahead and finish the quest because complaining won't get you anywhere. The quest was fairly easy with little risk of death if you had paid attention while doing it. Good luck.  Tien  23:52, October 19, 2009 (UTC)
