Jpg image, will you stop adding jpg image earlier version in PNG was already uploaded--Superior demonic 16:30, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

People keep uploading jpg images, guys.. upload PNG instead of jpg please Adult chameleon (automatic).png Anurin Talk · Sign! . 23:04, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

Just to clarify for everybody (including myself,) what benefit is there to using .png instead of .jpg? There is no benefit to using .png over .jpg that I know of outside increasing the sharpness of any text in the image, so for images without text wouldn't .jpg be preferred by anybody of average or higher intelligence based on the fact that the file size is smaller (helps with bandwidth, which can keep server costs down and help the page to load faster for users) with similar or better quality in most cases not involving text? --Bandos godsword.pngBartuccio3Talk Contribs #Rune full helm (Zamorak).png 00:10, 22 April 2009 (UTC)
It does make a difference on images. Compare this image to the previous file in history that was compressed as .jpg. And you most likely get a template like this one on your .jpg picture;
This image contains compression artefacts.
It should be replaced with another screenshot saved in the PNG format. Please see our images and media policy for more information.
An unsigned comment... Okay that helps Mr./Ms./Mrs. Anonymous. Anyway the fact that JPEGs are compressed is why they're the preferred image format of so many people. If the software this site uses to decompress it is obsolete, why should everybody else have to suffer for it? All I'm really seeing from this point is that somebody uploaded a low-quality image (outside of server problems that's the only reason I can see for a JPEG to appear as horrible as you make it seem) and that Wikia doesn't know how to render content. Sometimes, things should change. Wikia have many policies that are either counter-intuitive or over-zealous, and this very well may be one of those such policies. If somebody that can actually explain in their own words (read: somebody with computer experience outside of playing RuneScape) then by all means feel free to prove me wrong. Posting a template is not offering an explanation at all if it does nothing more than link to external sites and otherwise provide no real information. --Bandos godsword.pngBartuccio3Talk Contribs #Rune full helm (Zamorak).png 01:10, 22 April 2009 (UTC)
Read at - notice the "JPG does not work well on line drawings, lettering or simple graphics because there is not a lot of the image that can be thrown out in the lossy process, so the image loses clarity and sharpness." RuneScape graphics count as simple graphics - unlike many photographs, there isn't as much colours so JPEGs compress some of the ones needed, to try to cut down space. While there are a few decent JPEGs of RuneScape, often they are larger in file size than other, similar PNGs, which increases bandwidth.
The site also explains about PNG. One of the important things to us, they say, is "an image in a lossless PNG file can be 5%-25% more compressed than a GIF file of the same image. PNG builds on the idea of transparency in GIF images and allows the control of the degree of transparency, known as opacity. Saving, restoring and re-saving a PNG image will not degrade its quality". Considering they're talking about "GIF is better than JPG for images with only a few distinct colors, such as line drawings, black and white images and small text that is only a few pixels high" when they're comparing to GIF, you can see the advantage - RuneScape images generally have fewer colours than most photographs. Also, the ability to have transparency is important in RuneScape, as you'll notice many files are made transparent to mesh better with the Wiki's skin. While it doesn't matter so much now, as we have a white skin, there is the possibility of colour changes in which transparent images will have the same effect as they do now, while those with a white background (perhaps saved in JPG?) will look blocky and out of place.
Hope that cleared it up for you and everyone else wondering why the Wiki prefers PNG images. --Teri (: 21:17, October 5, 2010 (UTC)
Also, for those new to the argument and wondering about it further, Gaz Lloyd explains it further on Bartuccio3's talk page. --Teri (: 21:28, October 5, 2010 (UTC)

Typos?[edit source]

Under Trivia, someone has written that the Natural Historian says "amends" instead of "amends". Amends is spelled correctly in both cases. If there is an actual typo, could someone please correct it? --Alex1908 20:28, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

They spelt it as "ammends" as the typo word when I first saw it. Black cavalier.png Zenihdrol Tribal top (blue).png 21:04, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

Changes to other quest possibilites[edit source]

In this quest there are several added references if you do other quests. Could there be new changes to old quests such as referenceing that you already know about the Mahjarrat in Enakhra's Lament. Mathwiz908 22:34, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

i think there is more quests,

leading off from this, maybe merge with wgs quest, Zamorak's Book of Chaos.png Superior demonic Zamorak's Book of Chaos.pngTalkContribsUnholy symbol.png

Haven't Even Logged in Yet Today...[edit source]

But when I clicked on the mainpage of the game and noticed the update, I decided to read it immediately (as I usually do.) I'm overjoyed to see that there is a new Fremennik-series quest, but then when I see that it's a novice ranked quest in the article for it in the official KB.... This is just a huge disappointment. Sure, most if not all Fremennik quests are simple and can be completed with relative ease, but the first time you run through them, guide or not, is usually very dangerous and overall fulfilling when you finally finish it. In my experience the novice quests all have absolutely nothing dangerous about them and usually play out like a visual novel or something of the sort, where it's all dialogue with a few scenes but very little input is actually required. I hate to judge content before actually playing it, but recently RS has become predictable to a certain point, so I really hope that my foresight is proven false when I finally get to the quest. --Bandos godsword.pngBartuccio3Talk Contribs #Rune full helm (Zamorak).png 00:02, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

This is the first quest in a new serie!! :D So it starts out small. Just like Jungle Potion, Sheep Herder, Biohazard, etc... And if you want this quest to require some input of you, then don't use a guide. Adult chameleon (automatic).png Anurin Talk · Sign! . 00:08, 22 April 2009 (UTC)
Honestly, we can argue back and forth on this all day and night, so I'll just say this on the matter: It doesn't matter how many times I replay Romeo & Juliet on a different account, as I already know the storyline and what to do and am just annoyed by the excessive dialogue to click through. Being a player of multiple accounts, I find these quests the most annoying as they're usually short if you speed through the dialogue (unless an update comes out that changes it, there's usually no reason to re-read any of it,) yet at the same time they're usually easy QP, so I'll end up doing them on secondary accounts anyway just to get a higher trade limit for them. I personally find no enjoyment in clicking through the same 90 instances of "Click here to continue." but I do enjoy replaying boss battles. The challenge can be immense depending on the limitations you set for yourself (lower stats, different combat styles, no prayer...) If a quest that is actually difficult comes out, I like to use the fact that I have multiple member accounts to my advantage to figure out either the easiest way to approach the quest (if I'm trying to help somebody else with it) or else find a way to make an easy quest more difficult (the lower defence of a "pure" tends to help with this take on the quest.)
Basically I'm saying that these quests usually require no effort even without a guide and prove to be little more than a nuisance in the long run. Most people either ignore the story or end up forgetting it by time the next installment comes along, so that argument is limited. I hope something actually develops of this, but as you said with the whole series thing... Well look at how long it's been since a Mourning's End quest has come out and how many years from the first quest it took to reach ME pt II. I don't even know if I'll still have time enough to play any games by time a real quest develops in a new series. This is why I'm disappointed; in an attempt to increase the subscriber base rather than respect existing subscribers, JaGEx have put in low-level content yet again... I'm so sick of mid- and high-level players being ignored. (Don't argue that WGS is high-level content, as one update per three years is still considered ignorance compared to other MMO's out there.) --Bandos godsword.pngBartuccio3Talk Contribs #Rune full helm (Zamorak).png 00:53, 22 April 2009 (UTC)
If you speak to Ali the Wise at his house in the north end of Nardah, you get to tell him all the Mahjarrat-related information your character knows from various other quests. He remembers this information and provides some insight linking it together. There's no tangible reward for high-level characters, but I will be going back to Ali whenever I finish another Mahjarrat-related quest, as I think it's useful to reread the nice summery of known facts. That starts to address the problem of players forgetting story lines. I hope to see similar NPCs in the future. MarkGyver 06:41, 22 April 2009 (UTC)
I just remembered the new slayer cave full of jellies. I think that's a decent reward for mid-high-level players.MarkGyver 09:22, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

Rewards[edit source]

Can the tablets really be considered as a reward? They are supposed to be used in the quest, like the knife, spade and tinderbox; infact, they're consumed. Just thought I'd ask instead of just removing them, might have been seen as vandalism. --User:E.T. Prod U 17:01, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

Valid point made here. You are right, they are certainly intended to be used during the course of the quest. But, when the quest is over, if you haven't used them, they are still yours (i.e. do not disappear at quest's end). Since they are provided gratis and not mandated to be used, I would have to say that they are a reward per se, although not in the same vein as the xp bonuses. Help With It[edit source]

Hey guys can someone post a quest help with it or somethin =) plz. i need help badly on it.

Am I the only one who thinks we need a map for this place?[edit source]

Does anyone think I (or someone else) should make a map for the caves system, due to the introduction of the Ice Strykewyrms? The Chaos is Coming 18:58, March 7, 2010 (UTC)

Error on Trivia[edit source]

The third to last comment says that there is a grammatical error with 'an horror'. This is only true if you are American as the British do have 'an' before words beginning with h as well as words beginning with vowels.

That would be for words where the H is silent. The H in horror is pronounced, so it should be "a horror" instead of "an horror".

Materials Needed Incorrect[edit source]

I can't figure out how to edit the quick guide section where it tells you what materials you need, but you need 8 cut sapphires, not just 4. 17:38, December 30, 2013 (UTC)

You can save on sapphires by re-using the ones you made use of to remove Jhallan from his ice prison, hence only 4 sapphires are required. Alchez 08:54, December 31, 2013 (UTC)
