Hiscores trivia[edit source]

Summoning hiscores lvl 30 = 13,363. lvl 99 = 13,034,431 (For comparison Talk:Hunter#Hunter_hiscores, however day numbering was different, hunter day 1 was day after release, whereas summoning day 1 is same day as release.)

  • Summoning was released about 14:54 15 January 2008 (UTC). Dark Dude 98 was the first to show up on Hiscores with level 30 at or before 19:55 15 January 2008 (UTC), which is about 5 hours after release. This includes completing the quest needed before starting the skill without using any guides except maybe the Knowledge Base.
  • At the end of the day at 2359 15 January (about 9 hours after release) there were 122 players on hiscores with one at level 37.
  • Day 3 - 5,892 on hiscores with 3 lvl 58s Owlcraig, Davis 123, Turbostrider Chrislee33 09:43, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

Pures[edit source]

Are there summoning pures yet? If so, maybe we should add something about pures in the article. (I'm not p2p, so I really can't tell.) May be coloured blue in the near future.earth(t)

Is there a reason for pures now that pvp is gone? Law rune.png Nubricon Law rune.png 02:05, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

There's always Bounty Hunter. Dragon medium helm! Whaddaya know?Chiafriend12Better than rune!I have 12 friends. 05:32, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
I doubt the possibility to create pure summoner, because charms are drop from high-level monsters. And the dreadfowl (the only offensive familiar) that is available for low-level summoners is not that strong.Golduin 06:39, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
With the addition of the thiefing option to get charms, it is theoretically possible to make a summoning pure. Miw 10:46, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
With soul wars out now It's very possible for there to be summoning pures. They can sit there during the soul wars match and then spend their zeal on charms.  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.22.22.6 (talk) on 21:33, March 26, 2009.
Not really, they'll still have to have a fairly high summoning level to be able to get charms at soul wars, as they must be at least combat level 10 to be able to buy charms. Quest.png Gaz Lloyd 7:^]Events!99s 21:49, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

Training in the Chaos Tunnels?[edit source]

How the hell are you supposed to train in the Chaos Tunnels when the familiars' attacks give you 0.1 xp each time it hits? You might as well cut down regular trees to train your Woodcutting to level 99. So, unless I'm misunderstanding something, the tunnels can't be used effectively to train Summoning. You'll get, like, 10xp an hour?

Oops, I think I should have put that in the article about the Chaos Tunnels, not here. Sorry.  Tien  13:36, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

As I gather (not member yet), the relation of the Chaos tunnels to Summoning is that a lot of the monsters there can drop charms, and that as a multicombat area, it is a good place to deploy a combat familiar to help you, whether or not you call on its special attacks. History[edit source]

Why was everything related to the skill's history removed from the page? I don't think it's too much to ask to have a short summary on here and leave the details for the split article. Skill 05:00, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

Never mind, didn't see that the section was moved to the bottom. I still think it should be at the top, since it seems to be the logical way to order the sections. And there's still the matter of the paragraphs on history in the lead, it's relevant to note that it was released differently from other skills and that there are more parts coming. What other skill page has a bunch of history stuff at the top of its' page?Degenret01 07:48, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

None, because at the time they were released this wiki wasn't there (except maybe for hunter, which has a small section about runescape design changes when the skill was released). Second-abyssal-whip.pngPatheticcockroachGuthan's platebody.png(Talk) 07:52, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
I think it's because most other skills were surprise releases, or were only mentioned in the behind the scenes articles immediately prior to their release. Summoning is pretty much the only one that differs. Skill 05:45, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

Talk option for familiers[edit source]

In the Runescape database, it mentions the talk option. Something like 10 lvls more than the requirement to summon them allows you to understand your familiers.Go ez1 01:51, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Summoning Pictures/Animations[edit source]

We really need summoning pictures and animations (Hence the Wiki Cleanup box and the top of the page). I am working on this myself, but I need help with higher leveled pics of creatures, etc. Thank You! Invincibility 23:10, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

i already added gecko, crab, penguin, terrier and platypus animations so i wonder wich animation you've added as far as i can see none--j-g 00:20, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

Errrr, so how does one take a picture of an animation? If the answer involves much computer speak just tell me to never mind.--Degenret01 10:11, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

How do u make animations? Invincibility 13:14, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

Uncomfirmed[edit source]

This sentance in the summoning guide is absolutely uncomfirmed maybe you can talk to it immediatly no-one knows YET

You can talk to a pet if you have at least 10 or more summoning levels above the required Summoning level to obtain that pet. You will never be able to talk to the dragon, monkey, or chameleon because it is impossible to get a "natural" summoning level over 99

Actually this was stated by Jagex in the Summoning-The Basics section of the knowledge base.Dark shark31 01:24, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

When I put that sentence in I got it from the knowledge base. Yes, I know that no one has gotten to level 99 yet and it may be false, however Jagex stated that information, so thats why I left the sentence in. Invincibility 01:40, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

British spelling?[edit source]

So I understand the game is based in the U.K., but where is wikia based? Maybe that should determine whether we use color or colour. The 2nd one just plain looks wrong to most users I would bet.Anyone?

Wikia's policy is that if the article is about a British game, the spelling should take the British form. Chocotard 16:37, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Emote video[edit source]

Well, for one, it's pretty sloppy. Also, it seems to be more of a "glory to whatshisname" instead of being focused on the emote itself. As soon as someone comes up with a clean animation of the emote we should move the vid to a sep page, just give it a link.

Why has it gotten removed? It was the only video we had of it, even though it wasn't the greatest. Invincibility 13:13, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

I guess cuz it sucked. But i would rather have waited till we could replace it, just deleting stuff like that isn't all that helpful. After all, it did show the emote. Even a poor vid is better than none. Maybe there is some other reason I am unaware of.--Degenret01 08:40, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

Technical Difficulties[edit source]

"However for the time being the development of the second batch of creatures has encountered difficulties, and will not be released in February."

Since when did jagex say that they had a problem with the second batch of summoning monsters?--Pkthis 15:44, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

It was posted on the forums about a week ago.Dark shark31 18:12, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

Monkeys no talk?[edit source]

'You will never be able to talk to the dragon, monkey, or chameleon because it is impossible to get a "natural" summoning level over 99.' Has this been confirmed with monkeys? I know that Karamjan monkeys aren't very clever but I'd be surprised if an amulet of monkeyspeak doesn't have any effect when they talk.Air Wave icon.pngA.C.Amulet of nature.png 21:11, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

Stat spying........[edit source]

While i was stat-spying some of the monsters, to find out anything interesting, i noticed that some of them are immune to poison damage. THese monsters are: Bronze Minotaur, Bull ant, Compost mound. There may be other monsters that are immune to poison, but i have also found out some of them arent. If other people could stat spy the monsters, that would be great.

Btw, the lunar spell, monster examine, will ONLY work if their combat level is displayed. If it is not displayed, then you cannot use the spell on them.--Pkthis 23:28, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

Cheapest route doesn't include tertiaries[edit source]

The cheapest route for training doesn't include tertiary ingredients which, while difficult to update, make a huge difference. Example: at level 13, you can summon a thorny snail. This costs one more shard than the previous best familiar, the spirit spider, for the same xp. However, the third ingredient costs about a quarter of the price. I haven't actually calculated the total price for any given familiar to determine the cheapest, but I'd be willing if people thought this was a good change to make. copppro 18:52, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

It would be very useful. In fact, I'd go a step further and add a note for pouches which require an untradeable tertiary ingredient reflecting the "effective cost" of the tertiary ingredient based on the current price of the pouch. It's all well and good that Abyssal Parasites/Lurkers/Titans generate profit as well as xp, but if I have to spend time fighting in the Abyss rather than purchasing the tertiary ingredient on the G.E. (a harpoon for instance, since we're using a green charm), I'd like to know how much money I'm making for the tradeoff in time. (Eviltexan 18:42, December 9, 2009 (UTC))

Best Routes for Summoning[edit source]

Calculating the cheapest route for summoning is significantly more in depth than set out in the current Summoning page.

Shards are just one part of the calculation. The cost of making pouches needs to include the 2nd (after the early levels you will not be able to collect all 2nd's yourself, you will need to buy them). On the flip side Pouches can also be alched, traded in GE and traded to a special shop (for 70% of their value) to recover a significant portion of the original cost.

The cheapest route to 99 summoning is therefore based on the net cost per XP:

( (Shard Cost + 2nd Cost) - (Highest of GE price/shop trade price/alch price) ) / XP per pouch

I have a spreadsheet that tracks this. Using a bit of cut and paste it didn't take as long as you might think to set up.

Unfortunately that isn't the end of it. The GE price of pouches is continually changing and not all pouches will sell in GE at the currently listed prices (most are in freefall until they reach a price attractive to alchers). So in practise even after all the maths some practicalities require consideration.
