Should I put a list of monster tasks you can get from each master?--Eucarya 06:54, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

Yeah sure. --Richard1990 12:56, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

This slayer guide is a bit biased to low level slayers :s let me put some work into it. I'm a lvl 88 slayer. Xanatos 07:44, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

I always use Chaeldar so I've added my 2c

My apologies for not adding the links to the assignments at Duradel in my changes. --Xanatos 22:34, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

Heh, don't worry about it, good to have a high level slayer aboard, I'm still fairly nooby myself at level 70. --Eucarya 22:42, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

Can someone add exact info on NPC Contact from the Lunar Spells? I know it can be used to contact slayer masters but don't know the spell's level or runes required.

It's blue-linked in most places - NPC Contact --Eucarya 16:01, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

Starting Out[edit source]

It says Chaeldar requires combat 70 to get slayer tasks from him, does this mean people that are new to members can just start straight from him? 58.161.131.50 07:52, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

Yes. Quest.png Gaz Lloyd 7:^]Events!99s 10:59, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

Strategy[edit source]

Yeah um some of the comments in this section don't seem to make any sense. Like "Use Vannakka for tasks up to around 60 slayer, then Chaeldar after this" especially doesn't seem to make sense. Your ability to cope with Chaeldar's tasks is based on your ability to kill the monsters, which has nothing to do with your slayer level, and everything to do with your combat level. If I'm missing something, tell me and clarify it in the article please. Endasil (Talk) @ 23:55, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

Time up?[edit source]

I am not that sure but can Assignments be reset if not trained for a long while?

No, I left Slayer untrained for 4 months, then went back and had the same assignment. Shinibachi 22:25, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

Monster drops[edit source]

Ok im not sure where to put this...you need to specify what color of mystic armor slayer monsters drop, both in the slayer monster table and in the monster pages themselves. Can't seem to find which enemies drop dark mystic gloves... --66.188.230.197 22:48, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

I think I got dark mystic gloves from banshees...I think... Divination TIRRIANGANT (TALK) 22:51, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

Needs a little[edit source]

This article strategy is terrible, as it doesn't say anything for lower level slayers. Plus the strategies are confusing and stupid.

I'm working on a strategy for those without Guthan's, as I had to endure about 4 months of that after losing mine to DKs. As for lower level slayers, there's not much to say for them.Ssj metroid 13:15, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

Why not do something for lower-leveled players? Slayer is an easy skill to level regardless of a players level. However, there really isn't much of a strategy that needs to be given for Slayer training, but it may be useful to put strategies on the different monster pages. We don't really need to go through every monster that could be assigned and tell how to beat them, at least, not in the Slayer article, but it wouldn't hurt to put those kinds of tips in the individual monster pages. Divination TIRRIANGANT (TALK) 14:13, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
"Slayer is an easy skill to level" Apparently, you haven't got a high slayer level...And as I said, I'm working on a strategy for players who either can't afford or can't wield Guthan's. Ssj metroid 15:43, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
Easy in the sense that all that's done is that you get an assignment and you kill that particular monster. There aren't a whole lot of "tricks" that can help you level slayer, which is why it's not the fastest. Many complain because it can't be "bought" by people who are rich. Don't know what you consider a "high" slayer level, mine's certainly not at the top, but I figure at level 50 I've done a couple assignments at least. The only difference in training slayer versus training any of the combat skills is that you get assigned a monster to "slay" rather than picking your own, so getting around to those places is essential, as well as being able to contact the Slayer masters for new assignments. It helps to know what should be used for each of those individual monsters, whether it's assigned as a slayer task or not, but as for specific instructions on what to wear while training slayer, anything a player would normally use for training any combat skill. Guthan's is not "essential", although like all high level armour, weapons, etc, it's certainly very useful, just like a whip isn't required, but certainly is nice to have. These pages and skills aren't meant for only high leveled players, so making guides that help everyone is much more useful. I'm interested to see the strategy you put for people who don't have Guthan's. Divination TIRRIANGANT (TALK) 16:05, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
Slayer is NOT an easy skill to level. I have 73 slayer right now and I barely manage about 70k EXP every day, and that's actually decent experience at my level. As for Guthan's, yes it is essential if you are aiming for high slayer levels. Guthan's allows you to basically camp at many monsters, allowing you to efficiently complete your task without constant bank trips. In addition, not all players have the best items their level can afford. I remember back when I was a level 68, I didn't even have full rune! Since slayer can be classified as a "dangerous" skill, due to the monsters you have to slay, slayer isn't a skill that lower level/players with low income should do. The guide I'm making for people without Guthan's will be aimed at mid to high level players. It'll have to wait about a week though, as I'm going away tomorrow until Friday.

Splitting the article[edit source]

I would suggest splitting the article into two parts; the Slayer training guide page (encompassing the sections Beginner Training and Advanced Training), and the existing, general Slayer guide. This would mean that both articles could be extended without making the Slayer page too long, allowing the training guides to focus on magic and range as opposed to just melee. It would also allow the training guides to delve into their strategies in more depth. As it stands, I feel that the Slayer article itself is too long and unwieldy, on top of being written messily. The main slayer page should, in my opinion, just list the 'need-to-know' information about slayer, such as equipment and locations. It could do with a spruce up though.
I'll leave off changing the article for a while in case anyone else would like to comment, but if no one has any objections I will go-ahead and make the split in the near future. Dechaineux 13:34, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

Splitting the article would seem like a good idea. I support it. The one tiny flaw is that not many people slay using mostly range or mostly mage, simply because the black mask bonuses do not extend to those areas.

Something i dont undertand.............[edit source]

I dont understand why some slayer monsters have a melee/magic attack and that you have to waste time training ranged to wear dragonhide armor. Why is this?--Pkthis 22:53, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

There's no reason to ask why. These monsters were given these types of attacks in order to make them more challenging. If you don't want to fight them, don't. Walk away and wait until you find the sense to train range. Jagex will NOT be getting rid of it simply because one player complains about it. Ssj metroid 20:03, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
Heh, heh, im not the only one that complains about it ya know............--Pkthis 22:02, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
Something that many people don't think about are the mage defenses that are included in mage armour. Wear mystic armour rather than dragon hide. Full Mystic has almost the same mage defence that full blue d'hide has. Granted, the dragon hide is better over-all, but if the complaint is that you don't want to train your range, use mage armour instead, and at least you'll get some kind of bonus. I agree with Ssj though, I don't see a need to get rid of that problem. The game is supposed to be well-rounded. For players who do not raise all of their skills, there are going to be certain aspects of the game that will be lacking. Many of the skills overlap each other, so training one skill helps others and adds more content availability to the game, while NOT training other skills will prevent you from being able to do well in other parts of the game. Sorry, the game isn't meant to be played by people with narrow focus, although it can be enjoyed by them too. It's those who play all parts of the game who will be able to do more and be able to have more fun. Sorry you're not that kind of player. You dont have to wear d'hide, you can try something else, take another assignment, or just wait until you have the ranged level. Good luck. Divination TIRRIANGANT (TALK) 20:41, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

Training..................[edit source]

I think we should get rid of this "basic" and "advanced" training part of this article, since i think it is too complicated. WE should discuss how to replant this part of the article in the talk page.--Pkthis 22:01, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

Melee Bias?[edit source]

Okay, what justification is there for claiming this article shows melee bias? I see no traces of such, and if nobody can prove it, I feel it should be removed. Also, could somebody explain how, at the bottom, as is noted, 'Slayerbelle' received an untrimmed slayer cape, as the facts stated imply it IS impossible? 1diehard1 03:40, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

It did have melee bias, but it was all moved to the Slayer training guide. The article says that it was at first thought to be impossible. Butterman62 (talk) Ice Barrage icon.png 04:01, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
I noticed that it says at first. But, it doesn't say how it is possible.1diehard1 22:09, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
I suppose you can use skill lamps and rings of recoils. But that would take a really, really long time. Or perhaps Vengeance?Ssj metroid 22:11, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
Get a buddy to wound your assignment monster to really low health, you finish it and get the slayer xp. Slow, yes......feasible, yes.

Extra Slayer EXP Links or Mentions[edit source]

Maybe there should be at a minimum, the mentions of other Activities that can help Slayer. Maybe put in links to other guides that show off these features.

For Example: Jade Vine, Tarn's Lair, Champion Scrolls and Bork.

Bork and the Jade Vine alone is like 7k EXP a day. Not bad if you don't feel like diving into an assignment. Mention also that Champion Scrolls and Tarn are one time uses.

I'm not saying they need full discussion on this article. Maybe put it in the SEE ALSO section at the bottom.

~Ixindor~

about the tag[edit source]

ok, first of, ixindor, bork doesnt give 5k xp per day, he only gives 5k xpthe first time, thereafter, everytime, u get only 250x, jade vines 2.5k i think(not good enuff for vine :p)

2nd thing, id like to see how the slayer article itself is biased, maybe the slayer training guide is biased, but not the article

and as a conequence of that, i think the tag ought to be placed for the slayer training guide, since it seemingly gives maximum priority to melee, just mentions what range armour is required, and barely gives a refernce to magic at all

so, how do e place the tag for the training guide? Fireyfox 00:59, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

Quality improvement tag[edit source]

The quality tag is pretty much invalid for the current version of the page. It is a nice introduction and provides a great overview of the skill, linking to more detailed pages where relevant. Even with the Smoking Kills update, there are only a few minor tweaks needed to this page. From my view it is one of the better skill pages and the tag should be removed. Miw 07:52, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

Agreed, I might slap the tag onto the Slayer training page. That could do with a cleanup.Dechaineux Talk 08:07, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

Combat Levels[edit source]

Does anyone else think Slayer should increase combat level? It has to do with fighting monsters, and if prayer effects it, why not Slayer? --Strange Dyl 15:47, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, we aren't Jagex, and cannot change anything. Try using the official Runescape forums instead. Butterman62 (talk) 17:59, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

The Slayer Ring and Tarn's Lair[edit source]

I hadn't completed the Tarn's Lair minigame, but when I used the slayer ring to teleport to Tarn's Lair, it took me straight to the room right before the "final battle." Could someone please verify whether this was a one-time glitch, and edit the Slayer page accordingly? --nekobawt 00:11, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Poison[edit source]

I have been Slaying for quite a while now, and whenever poison does the last amount of damage to a creature, I have always recieved the experience. I think that so long as you have hit the creature in the last few seconds before poison strikes, you still get the experience. Could someone get back to me on their experience of this? Because with more information, the part about poison can be edited to provide more accuracy. Alex1908 16:16, 23 August 2008 (UTC)

Trivia[edit source]

At the bottom I see a thing saying that the average drop rate for whips from abby demons is 1 in 500. Which I believe to be untrue. I've killed thousands of them. I've logged over 5k of the kills... and have only gotten one whip drop from them ever after what I believe to be 5k kills when I was 90 slayer and after I got my first dark bow drop. FerrelFerrelShadowShadow 15:05, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

Can't get attacked?[edit source]

Can you get attacked by a monster that you don't have the right slayer level to attack?

Yes. Not all slayer monsters are aggressive however. Dtm142 22:50, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

I am not sure that is true. I thought I remembered being attacked by Dark Beasts on the way in to do ME2, even though I didn't have the level to kill them. I could be wrong, though. :-( 198.175.199.87 06:13, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

High Score Requirement[edit source]

At the end of the first section, it mentions that minimum slayer for high scores is "level 0". Last I checked, you have to have level 30 to be in the high scores. I tried to open it up and edit, but couldn't figure out how since it appears to be a template or bot lookup. I'm still a noob at this Wiki thing, so maybe someone smarter than me can fix it.  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Friedrich V (talk) on 19:12, June 17, 2009.

Shared experience question[edit source]

"If more than one person is slaying the same monster, the experience is divided equally among or between them; for example, if two people slay a creature, one-half goes to the person who does the most damage; the other half goes to the one who gets the last hit. " 1. Does this only apply if both people are assigned the critters? 2. If you do the most damage but do not get the kill, does this count as a kill towards the number of critters you must kill for the assignment, or just count for experience points? Hopefully, someone can post who has tested this, rather than guessing? 198.175.199.87 06:16, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

That's a very good question! I'd test this myself however I'm a non member at the time. Once this is found out however it should definitely go in the article. kitty.pngPsycho Robot talkSilver bar.png 16:31, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

I think the guide should be more clear as it is confusing in most of the parts. They should make a guide for lower lvls to higer lvls etc. It would be so easy to read it from there.

The article should mention skillers getting level 99 Slayer.
