Necessity of this article[edit source]

Is this article necessary? It doesn't offer any real content that is not covered in Jagex's own updates or development diaries. Calling it "new graphics" is a mistake - after all, in a few months the graphics will not be new!

That said, maybe the upcoming graphics options do deserve their own article. I'm not trying to disparage anyone's efforts here (there is quite a lot of text in this article). If it should stay (even under a different name) then I will be happy to help improve it.  ;-) Leevclarke talk Max_logo_mini.png bulldog_puppy.png 20:28, 22 June 2008 (UTC)

Perhaps, we should rename the article "High-Detailed Mode" since the new graphics will become the new "High detailed mode" in the future. I am also attempting to fix some of the grammar mistakes as well as add more information. Prayer-icon.png Matt File:Smite old.png|25px 04:22, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

Matt, I agree aswell. We should rename it to "High-Detailed Mode". I'll fix any grammar mistakes you might've missed. Abyssal whip.png Frizkie Blue partyhat.png 04:43, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

I did some major editing. I added pictures aswell. Let me know if I did anything wrong, as that's my first correction I've ever done. Abyssal whip.png Frizkie Blue partyhat.png 05:05, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

Very nice job. The page looks much better now. Although I'm not sure if those pictures are entirely legitmate (copyrights and all). Just letting you know, an admin might delete them. But they do look nice. Prayer-icon.png Matt File:Smite old.png|25px 05:10, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

Yeah I completely forgot. I added a copyright thing at the bottom, if that helps any. I don't know if it does. Ah well. If it doesn't we can link to the actual RS site. Abyssal whip.png Frizkie Blue partyhat.png

I'm going to go ahead and move this article to "High-detailed mode" because over three users agree (I agree aswell). Also, I have another question. After the update, shall images be uploaded in png ot jpg. The newer images look quite good in jpg or it might just be my eyes, lol. Chicken7 >talk 06:32, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, the .jpg pics seem really detailed, but I haven't compared them to .png. I'll put them on my comp and do a little test on image quality. Oh, and thanks for moving the article. Abyssal whip.png Frizkie Blue partyhat.png 15:28, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
BTW, I didn't see that you redirected the page to High-detailed mode so I did it for you. Abyssal whip.png Frizkie Blue partyhat.png 17:15, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
If images are in JPG format already, surely you wouldn't really gain anything by make them PNGs. The article is looking much better now, BTW.  ;-) I've provided links to relevant pages at rather than transfer the images onto the wiki's servers, as I don't want us just to hijack Jagex's content too much. Leevclarke talk Max_logo_mini.png bulldog_puppy.png 18:52, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
I see that the page is still not moved, so I'm going to move it as I also agree it should be moved. However, I think it should be called "RuneScape HD" as that is the official name. Aik Hui 06:31, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Can I get verification on something? I just want to know if the new Fullscreen mode is for members. Abyssal whip.png Frizkie Blue partyhat.png 17:29, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

I doubt it. The full screen mode would remove the advertisements, and on FunOrb, fullscreen is members-only. White partyhat old.png C Teng talk 19:32, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

Forums shut down?[edit source]

It looks like the runescape forums have been shut down. Major lag from ranters maybe? There were like 270 people in there. --r1ky | Talk | Contributions 17:21, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

never mind.. its back on now. --r1ky | Talk | Contributions 17:24, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

woot[edit source]

System Update...

We're rebooting the servers to fix several core issues with the OpenGL client and it's memory usage. Previously, players may have crashed when in particularly busy areas such as the Grand Exchange or other popular cities.

Thanks for your patience during this busy time!

Mod Nexus.

Thank god. I kept crashing. Now to enjoy :D --r1ky | Talk | Contributions 17:25, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Where did you hear that? White partyhat old.png C Teng talk 17:31, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Sigh..[edit source]

And all the while I'm at work, reading about the wonderful updates. Though, in my opinion, the "July Graphical Updates" are currently a very hot topic and a big deal, it would seem to me that it would be a rather important article to keep up, at least while people are constantly and actively searching for it. That's just my two gp (coins). Though "RuneScape HD" does have a nice ring to it... Karlis 18:12, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Bug?[edit source]

I dont know if i should put this pic in the article so i just put it here, is it a bug or not? thats my question. [[File:Bug.PNG|left|thumb|87px]]

I don't know, it looks like one. Maybe because you were wearing something that had a glitch. White partyhat old.png C Teng talk 22:35, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
That happened to me too, when I was wearing the Green D'Hide coif. Maybe it should be added as a bug? Magic-icon.png WiisalHAMMERTIME Hammer.png 06:26, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
It's not the HD mode, but the new LD mode seemed to have a bug where your fishing rod

turned round away from the water when you tried to take nearby items. DrRune scimitar old.pnggDeath rune.pngnzRune scimitar old.pngeva 15:41, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

Content of the Hidden update[edit source]

Does anyone know what are updated in the Hidden update just now?? XDRAGONAITE +Saradomin's Book of Wisdom.png 11:48, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

They fixed the rune full helmet- it looked like a zamorak full helmet when worn by males. Also, the fire cape no longer looks like a "cheese cape". Idk what the "cheese cape" looks like. Crystal bow.png Crystal SongHelm of neitiznot (charged).png 11:55, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

I think they also fixed the thing on female characters were they're body would split while burying bones? 8Ball231 10:35, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

Random events?[edit source]

On the day of the update, I noticed that there were several random events happening. First, I got taken to the mime, then later, while I was at a party, I went to Frogland. In that same party, two other players were taken away by random events. Coincidence? White partyhat old.png C Teng talk 14:36, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, I've had sandwich lady twice, the frogs, and the army sergeant guy, all today! Leevclarke talk Max_logo_mini.png bulldog_puppy.png 02:03, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

I've had similar incidents - on the first night I got on I kept getting the tele-error, 4 times in a row, then the security gaurd came twice followed by a dwarf and drill sergeant. Cool/Weird, huh? Attack hood.png Noob 4 Lfetalk Attack cape (t).png 03:29, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

Merge[edit source]

This should be merged with Runescape 2008 Graphics Update article.

fullscreen for f2p - proof[edit source]

I have a question and it is because of this line of logic: members have ads when they play in free worlds right? And, members can play HD in any world right? (It will let you try to log in as a free player and will not let you if you're not a "member account", not because you're in a free world.)

So here's the question: can members "go fullscreen" in a free world? That would mean we can.

More evidence: the detail select page says, "Free players are able to preview the new detail and fullscreen modes for compatibility," under the Runescape High Detail mode.

Bugs[edit source]

Why has the Bugs section been deleted? It was important. White partyhat old.png C Teng talk 21:48, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

How was it important? Most, if not all, of those were only graphical glitches. These are things that will be fixed by Jagex (and even if not, they are not that important). RuneScape always has had graphical glitches, I do not think they deserve their own section in the article when everyone was expecting them anyways. Christine 20:57, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
I do. They were expected but still notable. White partyhat old.png C Teng talk 01:14, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
I agree with Christine. Most of these bugs are just minor glitches that aren't important, and most of them are fixed now. They don't go into much detail, and aren't presented that well. I don't see any reason to keep the section. --Drummer (speak) 14:32, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
Well, during the Graphics Riot, many rioters were rioting about how their hair went away [1]. People kept telling me to take my hat off and see now bad the new graphics were. Most were minor, but a few I think deserve to be kept. White partyhat old.png C Teng talk 14:42, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
Which ones and why? Christine 14:58, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

I think we could just move it to the Glitch page. And put a link to the page in this article, with an introduction to say something like "RuneScape HD introduced a lot of graphical bugs and glitches that were later fixed by Jagex. Some of the areas effected were colour, items, etc." Just a thought. Much better than arguing which ones to keep and which is minor.   az talk   15:12, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

You're right, most are minor graphical glitches. But here are the ones I think should be kept:
  1. Lag - Lag was the main reason why the Graphics Riot occurred.
  2. Baldness - Another main reason why the Graphics Riot happened. People were angry at Jagex for taking their hair away.
  3. Amulet of Glory - This is a little minor, but I think it can be kept. It has an image and is a little interesting.
Perhaps these should be moved to the Glitches page. White partyhat old.png C Teng talk 15:17, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
I think all of them should just be removed, except for the Baldness one, which should be put on the Glitch page. --Drummer (speak) 15:13, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, just move baldness. The lag can be mentioned somewhere in the article. White partyhat old.png C Teng talk 15:20, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
Baldness hasn't been fixed, I just lost my hair again when taking off the jester hat71.35.176.189 05:57, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
That happened to me too, recently. Must not be completely fixed. White partyhat old.png C Teng talk 20:06, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

Ok, so are we going to anything about this? --Drummer (speak) 19:52, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Okay. I'll just keep lag and baldness in separate sections. I'll remove everything else. White partyhat old.png C Teng talk 20:06, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

New section suggestion[edit source]

When you're on the login screen in HD, images of several locations cycle through. A lot of people have never been to these places and don't know what all of them are (including me). I think it would be good if someone could identify them. If I knew where they were, I'd be tempted to go just to see them first hand.  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Altricious (talk) on 23:52, 29 July 2008 (UTC).

The list of places are as follows:

resizable window, did I edit well?[edit source]

I added the part about the resizable window under the "fullscreen" header. Just wondering if one of the more experienced wiki members sees this if they would give me feedback so I can learn to keep the content up to wiki standards. Thanks!    Jathsen   (talk ° Contribs #)  19:53, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

Nice, good job.   az talk   12:21, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
