Future article[edit source]

After thinking about it, I've decided to create this article. The rules state that we don't create speculative articles about possible future updates unless Jagex talks about it. Whether by accident or purpose (and given Jagex's track record about sneak peaks in in-game updates, I'm inclined to believe it is the latter), Jagex has indicated that there will be an upcoming quest titled Rocking Out. Moreover, by creating it, there is a better chance to control the orderly flow of information because otherwise, we would have people creating the article or evoking it all around the wiki. Finally, I'd like to remind everyone that though we can create articles about future updates, we can not speculate on its content. This means that though we know the name of "Rocking Out", we can't put in the article "the name suggests it will probably have to do something with mining or the Dwarves" no matter how certain we may feel this to be the case.--Diberville 17:06, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Copied from RS:NOT#FUTURE (emphasis added):
Articles are not the place for speculation about future updates. Future content should not be discussed in the article namespace, unless it has been explicitly mentioned in one of the Behind the Scenes updates. Even then, coverage should not go into detail or speculate about the update's content unless it was given in the update. You may also want to look at the non-existent item policy.
Since this was not mentioned in Behind the Scenes, I think this should definitely be deleted. Piety.pngAquilaePiety.png 17:16, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
Look, you can't just remove a speedy delete just because you disagree with it. In fact, you haven't even responded to me yet. Piety.pngAquilaePiety.png 17:27, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
I am familiar with that policy and have reference it at the very begining of my above post and not why I believe that this article should remain and I will also evoke the no rules rule since I believe that we're better off with the article existing than not existing. However I do understand and apreciate your position and if you wish for it to be deleted that's fine and if the concensus is that it should, than so be it. But as noted on the VfD page, speedy deletions are for "a blank page? A duplicate? A misspelling? A page filled with nonsense" so if you do think it should be deleted, please use the normal RS:VFD method.--Diberville 17:30, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
Addendum: Please note that the above comment was written inbetween my removal of the speedy D and my comment here.--Diberville 17:30, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
This is not speculation, this is informing people about leak/hint. Truffle and left-handed chisel information is OK -> this is OK too. --BeyPokéDig 17:37, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
Fine, I really don't care. But what happens if a couple months go by without them releasing it? And BeyPokeDig, I have no clue what you mean by "left-handed chisel information". Piety.pngAquilaePiety.png 19:27, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
I think the left-handed chisel is planned to be released along with the left-handed hammer for the creative smithers out there. I'm still unclear how they'll make left-handed smelting work though... ~kytti khat 00:04, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

69 Smithing![edit source]

That's a pretty demanding requirement. If someone finishes the quest, would you mind telling me if you can use a temporary boost?  Tien  13:41, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

I think you could use an orange spicy stew.. Buzz (Talk#P ) 13:47, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Were you able to talk to Bill and start the quest without 69 smithing?  Tien  13:55, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

I tried at 60 smithing and he wouldn't let me. Artwich 13:59, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Aw, sh- oops. Oh well. Thanks for the info.  Tien  14:02, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

At some point of the quest, you are not allowed to carry any of your items, so that answer is no - you can't use stews. (Forgot signature) Golduin 14:19, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

So I need to get 63-69 smithing, not 67? (dwarven stout, like i used for Devious Minds); Kingkinght60

Progress[edit source]

Anyone with progress on this one? I reached a point where I have a seagull on the rock, 6 items in inventory, 2 on me. Kind of got stuck. Golduin 15:01, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

I'm still lost as to how to reach the sharp rock to use the empty bottle on it, but the seagull is rather happy where he is. ~kytti khat 15:28, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

lol there are two sharp rocks...~kytti khat 15:30, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
Yep, I saw that :) I actually noticed the sharped rocks at first, then have forgotten about them :) Golduin 15:38, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Needed Articles[edit source]

This quest was full of new locations, NPCs, history, and items. Normally I would work on adding these all myself, but there are a ton of them this time around. I've got a list of some of the articles we need, although it's probably missing quite a few of them.

Items we need, in no particular order:

Under construction tag[edit source]

Given that the guide is fairly complete even with some screenshots, is there a reason to maintain the 'under construction' tag? There are a few links to non-existing articles, but that seems a bit much to keep the under construction status. Miw 13:38, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

Most of the Quest items have been accounted for. Tag removed.   az talk   07:24, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

Difficulty[edit source]

Is there a reason the difficulty is rated so high on this one? It's a fairly lengthy quest, with all the running around and all, but not really difficult. The only critters are a barehanded lvl 35 guard, and avoiding some lvl 60 crabs. In my mind the difficulty should not be more than a three. What does everyone think it should be at and why? - Zvar1 14:20, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

I agree that the quest itself is very easy with respect to the enemies, however I think it was given a 4-star rating due to the starting requirements. Many people find it hard to get 69 smithing, as well as the other 3 skills requiring levels in the 60's. -Sardaukar857 20:15, August 1, 2010 (UTC)

Customs Uniform[edit source]

I haven't done this quest yet because I'm still training Crafting and Smithing, but I want to know: Is it possible to obtain the Customs Uniform and wear it outside of Rock Island?

I don't think so. The only way of obtaining it is by going to Rock Island Prison. And, you can't bring it out the prison.   az talk   03:19, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

What about the Prison Uniform?

Same as above.   az talk   08:17, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

requirements to start?[edit source]

do you need ALL of the requirements to start or just agility? appreciate it if anyone can clear this up for me

Grammar pedantry[edit source]

"Five captain's marks" is not a grammatical error, since each separate mark is the mark of an individual captain. One mark is "one captain's mark", five marks are "five captain's marks", the plural being indicated by mark -> marks. "Five captains' marks" would mean that each individual mark was the mark of multiple captains.

guide format[edit source]

what have they done to the quest guides? there's a box at the top that says something like "this quest has a walkthrough, click here to see it", but when you click on it, it just takes you less than an inch down the screen. is this new, or have i just never seen it before? Savemonkeys0 22:49, October 10, 2010 (UTC)

*sigh* Not a Pirate[edit source]

Removed an errant reference, claiming the quest referenced both Lord Voldemort and Davy Jones. The Davy Jones reference is obviously more applicable, with the Lord Voldemort reference likely added by a fanboy, despite its irrelevance. For those that didn't see the issue: If the references section claims that this quest references Lord Voldemort, it should also include that it references Sauron (from Lord of the Rings), The Shadow (from The Gamers movie series), and every other universally feared villain from every existing book, video, and show. 68.73.225.12 03:44, November 15, 2011 (UTC)

SMUGGLED ITEM(S)[edit source]

in the part where you get thrown into prison, I easily figured out that you can smuggle a dominion marker, its very easy. before banking all of your items, you can obviously place it on the ground, and due to the fact that you cannot go far away from your marker makes it come with you to the prison, thats all I had to say :) 0x31Meda Talk0x31px 00:25, December 30, 2011 (UTC)

Prison -> Izzy route[edit source]

The article says the following: "the easiest way to go to Izzy is by swimming to the island, take the log shortcut north-west of Klemfoodle, walk all the way north to the Harpie Bug Swarms and go to the other side. Then, go north-west to Brimhaven and Izzy."

How about running to Shilo and taking a cart ride? Jeree95 11:57, January 6, 2012 (UTC)

Access to Dragontooth Island shipwreck afterwards, yarly?[edit source]

Norly. as in rewards section is yeild that not only the prison, but also this underwater shipwreck was accessable after completion. I so overhelmed with the feeling when i so belived it have changed, so one could really enter there afterwards, but NO. Cor damned idiots that rather belive than test... Yes i bashed the false knowledge away, in instance.

Perhaps it is a stretch, but the line when talking to the bartender 'I'll have a drink, you have one too" reminded me immediately of the duff beer song from the simpsons "Duff beer for me, Duff beer for you, I'll have a Duff, You have one, too." Seems like too much of a a similarity in wording to be a coincidence, so maybe this is a reference that belongs in the trivia section.

Trivia[edit source]

Captain Rabid Jack says he'll be the albatross around the pirates' necks. Is that not a reference to 'The Rime of the Ancient Mariner' by Samuel Taylor Coleridge?  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 82.17.193.66 (talk) on 20:45, October 27, 2013.

Hammer[edit source]

I would like to point out the contradiction in this walkthrough, where at the begining of the guide, a Hammer is listed in the required items, because the toolbelt will not work. Later in the article, when you get to the section for Brass Hand Harry, it says that the toolbelt hammer DOES work. I would check to correct this, but I have already passed the point in the quest that you get Brass Hand Harry's Mark, meaning that I cannot test whether or not the toolbelt could be used. Can someone test out whether it will work or not and correct this conrtadiction in the walkthrough? Thanks in advance. Garrec3 (talk) 23:17, January 5, 2016 (UTC)

  • edit* I had meant to put this into a new section, and even though I pressed the button at the top of the page, it didn't add the new topic, so I'm just going to leave it where it is. Garrec3 (talk) 23:19, January 5, 2016 (UTC)
Fixed it :) Farming-icon.png Salix of Prifddinas (Talk) Prifddinas lodestone icon.png 08:33, January 6, 2016 (UTC)
