FAQ sticky[edit source]

Thanks for the clarification, whoever put that in. But why does the phoenix say there's a 1/1000 chance of an egg becoming fertile? A player will always get the egg if he hasn't gotten it before.  Tien  17:55, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

more questions[edit source]

1) Where has it been confirmed that you are allowed one of each type of PET Phoenix?

2) Is 72 summoning a requirement for getting the egg? (aka getting lost on the way out of the caves)

3) In the "cave with lots of the eggs" and such, is it possible then to get both types of Phoenix pets at once?

Omg r u mine 20:27, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

1) In the KB. 2) Yes. J mod post, may change. 3) No. Educated guess. ~Artwich 17:35, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

WAIT a minute! I do have a Phoenix egg and only sixty something summoning. So either the answer on 2) is or at least has once been NO.Stormpride 18:33, December 3, 2009 (UTC)

In game picture[edit source]

Would somebody please post a photo of the phoenixes in-game? I want to know which to get first.--Armadyl Helm‎Long Live ArmadylArmadyl Helm‎ 20:21, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

Check out Youtube.
Also, has ANYONE gotten an eggling yet? I've done it 9 times straight and have since then given up.  Tien  14:43, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Do you want more images?[edit source]

I just took three screenshots in HD that aren't on the page yet, shall I upload them for possible or use or are you happy with whats there? They are of the chat in finding, seeing and clapping, all before the chicklings come out. tobylaneTalk 21:17, 26 February 2009 (UTC)

am i just lucky or...?[edit source]

i got it on my first try...lol...

Pure luck. Congratulations though Smile Ancient talisman.png Oil4 Talk 06:07, October 13, 2009 (UTC)

Uh... wow. I studied this page to prepare for my first expedition into the lair. I also got the egg on the first try. I almost had a heart attack because I thought you needed 72 Summoning to actually be able to take the egg, and my amazing ass luck would've been in vain. But wow, can't believe I got it first try.

I'm thinking these are a lot more common than the article would lead us to believe. While yes if you are extremely unlucky it sure could take years, but I found my mean hatchling on the second try, and my cute one, today, three days later. Anecdotal and lucky, for sure, are the odds maybe closer to 1 in 10 or maybe 1 in 100? Sanctumanon 02:49, March 8, 2011 (UTC)

Soo unfair lol, I just want the cute one! Green Mage48 (talk) 05:08, November 10, 2013 (UTC)

Dialogue page[edit source]

Hi there, I've filled in the Cute Phoenix Eggling's dialogue. However, I'm a complete RS Wikia novice so don't know how to remove it from the "incomplete article" template. If anybody who does could possibly do that, I'd be much obliged :) Bouncingboff 22:24, April 24, 2010 (UTC)

Approximate chances of phoenix eggling[edit source]

After abour 10-11 months of daily phoenix lair trials, I've gotten my first phoenix egg (mean ofc, cute egglings would fail inside the desecrated pet house + demonic throne combination in my POH). So in my case it least, it took 300-odd tries. Thus, it cannot possibly be as high as 1/10 - otherwise the chance of my experience happening would be lower than 1 in a quadrillion. If it was 5%, the chance would be less than one in a million - while i did take 80+ hours to get full lumberjack, the ridiculously low chance of 1/1M means even with my already fantastically bad luck that's effectively impossible.

Less than 1/100 sounds about right. If the chance is 1/100, the chance for anyone to take as long as me is about 5%, which is reasonable given the population of Runescape. Also, from the above posters, we know that it is possible for someone to get it on one run as well, so the single chance cannot be too low either. If the chance was indeed 1/1000 to hatch, the chance of getting a phoenix egg after 300 tries is 74%. Since Jagex has confirmed that the chance is higher than 1/1000:

All things considered, we can consider the chance of a phoenix eggling being acquired per run to be somewhere between 1/100-1/1000, since Jagex has confirmed it being higher than the lower limit and the statistical impossibility of my experience confirming it being lower than the higher limit.

Significance of this - if 1/1000 is closer to the true rate, 50% of the population will get a phoenix eggling only after 700 days, or 2 years of trying. Which is extremely unlikely.

If 1/100 is closer to the true rate, 50% of the population will get it within 70 days, or 2.5 months of trying. This will yield a satisfactory result of the average player having to try for about half a year before getting both phoenix egglings. My conclusion is that it is most likely that the occurrence rate of the phoenix eggling is somewhere around 1%. Tomomi 19:16, April 9, 2011 (UTC)

As a side note also, Distractions and Diversions tend to take about 6 months to complete - court cases (4.5 months shortest) and shattered heart (7 months shortest) also follow this approximate schedule. If acquiring both phoenix eggs is viewed as the completion of the Phoenix Lair D&D, it will make sense for it to take a similar amount of time.

Lastly, given that Jagex doesn't like to work too hard, a 1% chance means they simply code in the number 1, which is remarkably easy to do, as opposed to say, setting an occcurence rate of 0.3865%. Tomomi 19:29, April 9, 2011 (UTC)

Obtaining a Second Egg

Since I started counting how many times I've killed the phoenix, I received my first egg after 90 attempts. I thought this was quite reasonable as I've heard that some players, such as yourself, have done the phoenix lair for longer than I have. Everyone, including members who took even longer to receive their first egg, have said that the second egg is *always* easier than the first. Two-hunred and twenty-three (223) days later (or a total of 313), I still only have one eggling. Now, the first egg *may* have actually taken longer than 90 tries if I had previously tried for the egg, but probably no more than 1-2 months worth of trips. I can't recall for sure, but if this is true, it only reinforces the fact that I should have a second eggling by now.

One Year Later...[edit source]

I now have 1825 feathers in my bank and still only one pet. I've been killing the phoenix for over a year now (stopped once(?) for total lvl/skills, forgot one day) and still only one pet.

"Rarest pet on RuneScape"[edit source]

Where is the proof? 7kyt1iT.gif --WINE OF GOOD HEALTH (Actually Stinko) 22:00, January 13, 2012 (UTC)

I agree. Rarest might not be the best word but one of the least seen is probably true. Considering not many players do the Phoenix Lair, the fact that it's a low chance to get, and that most people don't care about pets makes it fairly 'rare'.Deadlyaznboy 01:54, February 2, 2012 (UTC)
