Zanaris coordinates[edit source]

I just corrected the Zanaris dev coords, but also confirmed that the sextant still works in Zanaris. Any reason to not just revert to conventional coordinates? Qloque (talk) 09:17, April 18, 2013 (UTC)

How odd. While I did not try to use a sextant, my meerkats refused to give me coordantants. My mistake, so I have no problem with the removal of the Dev Coords, as they aren't required. I'll take care of this now. Heaven Sent (talk) 06:06, April 22, 2013 (UTC)

Lumbridge Toadstool[edit source]

As far as we know the Lumbridge Toadstool spawns inside Zamorak's camp. I don't know if anyone is willing to test if it still does (using the ghost penguin), or if we should just wait until we have a week with the actual Lumbridge Toadstool. Talk to meTHARKONMy adventurer's log 05:34, July 29, 2013 (UTC)

A friend went to try the other day but didn't have much luck. If it can exit the camp then it may not have been moved, but that's just my personal idea. --IceyNut (talk) 14:50, July 29, 2013 (UTC)
There's a Lumbridge swamp penguin this week. It has a new spawn location outside the Zamorak camp. --Saftzie (talk) 04:47, July 31, 2013 (UTC)
I've now corrected the rest of the Lumbridge Toadstool's spawn location.--Heaven Sent (talk) 14:52, July 31, 2013 (UTC)

New Penguin Names[edit source]

After several arguments I had ingame with certain other penguin herders about penguin names, I promised them I'd come up with new names for the penguins that did not incorporate their disguises in their names and are unique identifiers as names should be. It is available for review in this spreadsheet. Feel free to comment here or there. Talk to meTHARKONMy adventurer's log 15:50, November 6, 2013 (UTC)

Frankly, I do not see the need to further distinguish penguins based on their spawn points. Since penguins move away from these spawns, any arbitrary name you give them will further confuse the situation when trying to address people to multiple penguins in the same area. Having a “North Castle Wars” makes no sense when there are no other Castle Wars penguins roaming the game world. When the “South Castle Wars” penguin is north of the “North Castle Wars” penguin what difference does the naming system make?
Penguins already have unique identifiers, which should be used to distinguish between them: their spawn coordinates, their disguise, and their point values. Naming them by their disguise works 10 months out of a year, and having a more confusing set of names for the penguins is just a silly idea. Penguins such as the two at Ape Atoll are separated from interacting with one another. Why is it imperative to distinguish between them by direction based name?
I named the penguins listed here as generally, but as descriptive as I could, based on the area they spawn in. With the current system, there exists three troublesome groups: The Haunted Woods bush and Mort Myre bush, the Southern Desert cacti, and the Wilderness rocks. Regardless of what we choose to call these penguins, it will not put a halt to the confusion that occurs once two penguins intertwine.
If you wish to call any penguin by another name in game, you are more than welcome to, but I do not see how adding cardinal directions to the names of many penguins will help anyone. Heaven Sent (talk) 22:16, November 6, 2013 (UTC)
I agree that that naming them by their disguises has worked very well. But most notably during Halloween, there are some people that get whiny about that. I do find it interesting you said you named the penguins in this list since I believe they were originally all named when I created this page, or rather the page this page was based on. Further evidence that I have no problem with the names as they currently are. Aside of the disguises there are some other troubling penguins, though I wouldn't say Haunted Woods and Mort Myre Bush are them since those are clearly distinguishably names (though hard to identify). The desert and wilderness are also not that big a problem as long as we all agree on the landmarks they are named after. I personally thought the Scorpion Pit, Wilderness Volcano, KBD Lair and Lava Maze worked well, but others seem to disagree. There is one set of penguins which can be confusing not because of people's stubbornness but because of the lack of landmarks. There are two rocks south of Castle Wars both having equal rights of being called Castle Wars Rock. One of them is close to Jiggig so we named it Jiggig Rock, but there are some that call this one Castle Wars Rock because of its proximity to Castle Wars. I am unsure that they call the penguin we call Castle Wars Rock. The main reason I have started to think about a new standard for penguin names is because there are people that don't even know about penguins but happen to be forum mods started to stick their nose in and complain. And finally I have to comment on one thing you said I don't agree with: Having a “North Castle Wars” does make sense when there are no other Castle Wars penguins roaming the game world. Because when you know what penguin you are talking about then you know where it spawns. Colloquially the penguin will probably be called castle wars, or even cw in-game. But that does not mean there should not be an official name on paper. The reason I went with cardinal directions is that they are well defined and were actually the only thing I could think of aside of using the disguises, which were not allowed to be used for their names in this new proposal since that was the whole reason the arguing started. The list should remain unbiased. Heaven Sent (talk) 00:21, November 8, 2013 (UTC)

Hints[edit source]

Not for the first time I found myself short by one penguin - on this occasion I asked Chuck for a hint.

I've heard there's a penguin located where the Imperial Guards train."

According to our list this is Death Plateau - only problem is there isn't one there this week.

Rich Farmbrough, 14:52 1 January 2014 (UTC).

The hints are tied to areas where the penguins are, not to specific penguins or where they spawn. The White Wolf Mountain penguin is probably somewhere in Burthorpe. It has been there on w60, anyway. --Saftzie (talk) 15:22, January 1, 2014 (UTC)

Has anyone started work on a new map for the hints. If so, perhaps I can offer some assistance, or otherwise I might start working on one. {{subst:#ifexist:Template:Signatures/Tharkon|{{subst:Nosubst|Signatures/Tharkon}}|— Tharkon (talk)}} 05:30, 25 December 2020 (UTC)
