Reset 2[edit source]

So... there's no way that the reset occurs on midnight UTC. For the last couple of days now, the reset hasn't even occured by 10 am UTC. Right now, I'm thinking it may be 12 in the afternoon that the reset is actually occuring. WPatriot 10:47, August 20, 2010 (UTC)

It resets 24 hours after you finish the quest and then every 24 hours after that. Jibblejab 13:23, August 20, 2010 (UTC)

I know for a fact that it is different for each player (not midnight, and besides - who's midnight? rofl!), and changeable. Mine has moved around a few times, and I think it coincided with my approval hitting 0. I'm currently investigating this now. J22f 20:35, February 1, 2011 (UTC)

I can also confirm that the reset time is changable and am almost certain it has to do with taking out all money in coffers, getting to 0 approval rating, and setting all workers to idle. Cause I almost never used my Kingdom til I came back to RS and joined a new clan that had a weekly kingdom event. I then got my kingdom back up and running and got it set to 7:20pm CST. Now I have to get it reset to 6:10pm CST so am in the process of resetting. Well I made a point of finishing ToM quest at 1:30 pm EST. It resets every day now at 1:30. Make sure that you choose a good time to finish. Perhaps if you want a good reset time, get up early in the morning and finish the last step of the quest? Now I have to get up,at 5:00, go to 4 hours of summerschool, and STILL dont have a reset kingdom when i get home, it's irritating. - Fantastic's Sunglasses 16:26, 22 June 2012

Most profitable worker distribution[edit source]

From my experience the Maple's arn't the way to go. I suggest 10 on herbs and the rest on what you need. Maple's seem to be non profitable in my experience. --Slayer Silv3rlining Slayer helmet.png 17:18, December 27, 2009 (UTC)

I just collected 30 days worth of resources from having 10 workers om herbs and the rest on maples. After selling everything, including crushed nests, I was left with about 6.6m. That's almost 3x the investment of 2.25m ( 30 days x 75,000 ) and I wasn't even lucky with the seeds (1 magic, 3 yew and 1 palm tree). Out of those 6.6m about 5m was pure herb sales. My conclusion: 1. Anything other than 10 workers on herbs is stupid 2. Maples is a very good choice for the rest of them. You will either make money, or you will make a lot of money. When I wait a week to collect the resources, will I get the max amount if I put in 750k at the time of the collectiong or will I have to make sure it remains above 750k each day of the week in order to get the max reward? --Austichar 19:27, January 2, 2010 (UTC)

Approval Rating[edit source]

"As a special note: Based on the number of workers placed on each task the time interval you should wait before collecting can vary a fair bit, however for most 10/5 combinations collecting once every seven days often leads to the highest yield of 'bonus' items. It is advised that you increase your reputation each day but if you miss out on it the loss is not very much. " I think, you only have to ush your rating just before collecting. You can leave the kingdom for 30 days, then push approval to 100% and it's counted like it always was 100%. Thats what i experienced. --Deville TGR 17:31, May 29, 2010 (UTC)

If you have not done Royal Trouble (as I have not), the daily loss is actually 2.5%, but Jagex rounds the loss 'up' which makes it appear as 3%. Proof: I forgot to go to my kingdom one day, and my approval rating was 95%, whereas it woud be 94 if it truly was 3%. I edited the table and the little paragraph above it to have this percentage, but I'm not sure if I missed any of them. KurosakisTwin 23:49, February 14, 2011 (UTC)

Talk to Advisor Ghrim. Ask "How's the kingdom faring?" Note that you don't have to see what resources have been collected if you don't want to collect them just yet. Approval Rating Drop[edit source]

Somehow, withing the past 1 1/2 week or so, my approval rating dropped to 25%, and Grimmy says that my subjects have collected nothing. There was money in the coffers (987436 x coins), so i cannot imagine why this happened. Has anyone else had this happen? Your rating drops for every day you don't bring it back up by helping mining/wcing etc.

It also could have dropped for killing a civilian (stall guards don't count as negative) or from stealing from a stall. The wiki article also mentions that doing the second quest drops the rating. Also, if all your subjects are on something for 2 weeks, and then right before you collect, you change them all to idle, then advisor grim will say nothing has been collected. I assume this means you can change resources too, and it will give you say fish instead of the herbs that they have been collecting all along. J22f 20:41, February 1, 2011 (UTC)

My approval rating dropped from 100 to 25 within a day. Which is totally mystifying to me. Only thing even remotely related to Miscellania is completing Fremmenik's Easy and Medium tasks. Can anyone give me any insight what could have caused it. Yeah mine dropped to 25% after (most of) Fremminik Isles too. Maybe it's intentional, they heard of you being the horrible tax collector...? My rating dropped to 25% too, but I had done both Fremennik Isles and medium Fremennik tasks before I even completed Throne of Miscellania. 18:41, January 2, 2012 (UTC)

I can also add myself to the list of people whose rating went from 100 to 25 in a single day.  I'm positive I had not killed a civilian or stolen from a stall.  I also completed Fremennik Isles yesterday, so it could be that.  I'm going to submit a bug report to Jagex on it. John Giel (talk) 16:26, January 5, 2014 (UTC)

Hi, I also have experienced this bug today. mine was 100%, but after couple of hours it dropped to 25%. I didnt quest between that times, and I've never killed citizens, I just have planted ivy poison bush at Miscellania farming patch between that times. Problems that are being looked into[edit source]

The main issue I want to find out is how to change the reset time of the kingdom. Mine has changed twice by several hours. So I know it can change. I think it has to do with possibly having no coins in the coffers and no rating when the current reset occurs. My hypothesis is that the game gives you a new reset time once coins and rating are added back.

Initial test failed. Tried draining rating to 0%, emptying coffers, and putting 15 workers on idle. Wait two days and then add back to coffers, rating, and workers. Reset time stayed 4:41 UTC. J22f 05:22, February 4, 2011 (UTC)

Two[edit source]

The table showing what tasks give positive and negative rating are out of date. For example, killing a guard does not lower rating and killing a civilian lowers it either by 4 or by 5. It isn't consistent. I also want to add a column to show the positive and negative changes for players who have completed the Fremennik diary 2 or higher. I have no way to find the data for a player who hasn't. (I have the diary complete.) I'll have to leave those spaces blank and also note that the current values are not accurate.

Done. Added the new column for players with Fremennik sea boots. Ironically, the tasks are all the same. The method was that I drained my rating to 0 and for each resource I recorded the rating after each individual task all the way until 100%. I did the same but opposite for the draining; Started at 100% and drained to 0%, recording each interval. The results are below. People have stated that the calculations for rewards only take into consideration your current rating when collected and not the rating over each day. This is possible. Especially because I know that you can be collecting herbs and maples for weeks, and then switch your workers to coal and and fish. Collect and you only get coal and fish. I did this on accident and was very saddened. Interestingly, if you put them on idle, adviser ghrim says they haven't collected anything!

Test Results: At reset, the game records rating and the value of 10% of current coffers. It does not record where the workers are. This means the workers could be set on ores, and then right before collection, switched to herbs. Herbs will be collected instead if ores. I'm not sure if reward potential is still recorded by the game if workers are all on idle. Will look into this. J22f 05:23, February 4, 2011 (UTC)

Four[edit source]

I want to look into rewording parts of the article to include the idea of "resource potential" because rewards are calculated at the time of collection based on the 'potential' added up together from all the days. This allows for fraction parts of days to add together for more resources.

Approval Rating Table Needs Data[edit source]

Because all of the tasks are the same increase with the boots, it makes me think that they are all the same without the boots too (see Problem 2 in post above). I need a player to research this for me and put the correct data in the table. The data should be in terms of per action (per fish, per log) and not per 1% like it is now. My setup[edit source]

With 700k in the coffers, full approval rating, full bar on herbs, half bar on coal, I get about 200k on average every day, however, I have got up to 1m before, with all the ranarrs you get. On top of that, you have a possibility of gaining serious rewards from the clue scrolls. Other good setups are: Raw Fish and Coal, Teaks and Coal, Flax and Coal 19:48, March 29, 2011 (UTC)

My Rewards[edit source]

Hey this is just a question about the Game, not about the WIkia.. I have just started with Miscellania and I havent done the second quest, Royal Trouble. I have all 10 of my workers on Maples and for the past two days i have only gotten 595 maples and 5 nests. On here you said i should get 892 and 8 nests a day.. I have 800k in the coffers so it would last me for a week but all I am getting is 595 maples and 5 nests.. If you were wondering why i am doing maples it is because i want to get a saradomin god bird egg.. so i have them all on maples for the best chance of getting one as fast as i can. I dont know why something is going wrong.. i have all 10 working and I get my appeal to 100% before I collect the resources and I have enough money in the coffers to last me a while... I Figured it out.. as soon as i did the quest Royal Trouble, I started getting 892 maples and 8 nests a day + the hebs i got from the other 5 workers.. I think that if you havent done Royal Trouble, the workers arent as moved to get materials as much as if you did the quest or something.. What if..[edit source]

Not quite. A kingdom continues to gather resources until coffers run out or 30 days elapse with no management. If a player is using the management interface at least once every 30 days to fill the coffers, then neither condition is met. The coffers never run dry, and the 30 day rule doesn't kick in. "Approval rating checked only on collection" myth[edit source]

On 15 October 2011, I did a test on Miscellania to see whether the rating was checked for every day or just at collection time. It appears that the rating is checked for at the "Miscellania reset" of every day, or checked when the first coins are dropped into the coffers. (More testing is needed for this.)

My test methodology was as follows:

  1. Raise your Miscellania rating to some value below 100%, like 75%.<br />
  2. Dump a certain number of coins in the coffers, which is above 600k (or 900k after the completion of Royal Trouble).<br />
  3. Wait 2 Miscellania resets (i.e. days).
  4. Before the 3rd Miscellania reset, raise your approval rating to 100% and collect your resources. This is what I got:<br /><br />
  5. Look at Managing Miscellania to see what you should have gotten if the rating of 100% counted for all the days. (In my case, I should have gotten 546 coal times 2 days, or 1092 coal. I got 813.)

Therefore, the myth that the rating only counts at collection time, like the resource types, is false.

The theory that the rating only counts at the start of a kingdom management run, as of when you add gold to the coffers, is now also false. The evidence shows that the initial rating of 100%, reset to 71%, resulted in getting 71.9% of the expected 546 coal for 1 day.

The theory that still stands after my and's testing is that the rating is checked at the start of each Miscellania reset and that the reward potential at collection day, reset # n, is the summation of Rating[i] * Salary[i] for i from 1 to n.

Flatpacks[edit source]

At what point are flatpacks accepted into the treasury? Often, when using them on Advisor Grim, you get a message that there isn't enough room in the treasury, come back when it has less coins. Given that message is received when trying to add a feww hundred coins of flatpacks to a treasury short 1 million, the value of the flatpacks obviously has nothing to do with it, so I assume it's to do with the percentage the treasury is below the max. It has to do with whether your kingdom status has been updated since the last time you topped off the treasury. All you need to do is update your status by doing some work around the kingdom or to use "Manage" on Grimm to see your treasury. At that point, the treasury will be updated and you can use flatpacks on Grimm. --Saftzie (talk) 03:12, December 17, 2011 (UTC)

Factual correction[edit source]

Recently discussed with User:Gaz_Lloyd in-game about approval rating and if it matters daily (as the article used to suggest) or at collection. He edited it in line with his experience. However, today I note it's possible to ask Ghrim what is available for collection so far without collecting it. Surely this would suggest approval does matter daily, after all. Otherwise you could check, run off and improve approval rating, then come back and the items available would be increased and improved. What counts as "Collecting"?[edit source]

It states in the wiki that if you collect more often, then you will get less reward. In short, the more often you collect, the less you get. I don't want to see how much I have collected and accidentally gimp my boost I have accrued over 6 weeks of not collecting. So, my question is: If I click the "Collect" option when talking to Advosor Ghrim, but I just look at my current resources, without collecting them, will that count as "collecting"? -- 00:10, April 13, 2012 (UTC) P Fry

If you mean something like filling up your bank so you cannot collect, but still look at what you have, I think it would. I haven't tried myself, but a test would be to do that, then come back a day or so later to choose different resources in the management interface and see if the "old" resources are still there (like pick cooked fish and coal, look, come back a day later, pick flax and maples, look again to see if fish and coal is still there). However, the main point of not collecting too often is really that you shouldn't collect every day. If you collect every day, you miss out on low probability items and fractions of resources that can accumulate over a few days. I believe most people collect weekly. I'm not convinced there's any point in collecting less frequently than every two weeks. --Saftzie (talk) 00:43, April 13, 2012 (UTC)
If you do not have enough bank space, you will not get the screen that shows all that was collected. Ghrim tells you to make more room right before he would normally show you what you collect.

Mahogany Logs[edit source]

I switched to mahogany logs from maple to see if I could save money on buying mahogany logs for plank make. I put in 7.5m at the beginning of the cycle and never let my loyalty drop below 98%. At the end of the second week, I switched to mahogany logs at maximum. I produced 3114 logs, and 8 nests (6 had seeds). That huge loss of seeds makes it so unprofitable that buying mahogany logs at double GE price would probably be cheaper than collecting them. Mahogany logs should never be collected from Miscellenia, unless doing the Task.

Switching Resources Before Collection[edit source]

Hey guys. I had my workers on full herbs half coal before the bxpw started and had been maintaining my kingdom for about 6months without collecting. Noticing that mahogany was much more profitable when I went to collect a few days ago, I did some rearraging before I collected, and when I did, I collected full mahogany and half herbs, which is what I was hoping would happen. So I guess rewards are calculated using settings that are in effect when the player requests them. Just felt like adding that. Question about Approval Ratings[edit source]

If I leave the kingdom for days and days without getting an approval rating, does it affect income even if I get approval rating back up to 100% for the moment I collect?  I have noticed that collection is not definite as far as distribution until you actually open the window.  In other words, do I get maximum income as long as approval is 100 when I collect, regardless of what happened during the subjects' work?

Your approval rating will only affect the collected items when you choose to have them gathered. It is safe to leave your kingdom unattended for a while. If you get 100% approval rating just before collecting the resources, you will not receive any penalty for not "taking care" of the kingdom. PomodorosanTalk 08:51, January 10, 2013 (UTC)

This issue has been tested extensively and the above answer is not correct. If you don't top up your approval rating every day, you get fewer resources when you eventually collect. It is not sufficient to leave it for days and just get approval back to 100% moments before you collect. See "Approval rating checked only on collection" myth and Testing My Vs Neb Theory above. However, not doing anything at all has (sort of) one advantage. If you leave for more than 30 days (or don't touch anything for more than 30 days), all activity in the kingdom stops. Effort/Work Distribution Changes[edit source]

Can anyone check this edit? . It has been the old version of the page for ages, and I cannot remember reading about any changes to the Kingdom in any of the latest patch notes. This also doesn't seem something they'd change under the radar on a whim... 06:42, March 18, 2013 (UTC)

It could also be something that has been the case all a long, but people never really tested it... or the wikia just had incorrect information. I make changes to distribution just before collection all the time. I last did it 10 days ago, and it worked fine. I can check again in a few days, but it would be great if someone else can check before me. Yes, you can change the rewards any time up until you choose to collect them. Once you choose to collect, however, they are fixed—even if your bank is too full to accept the rewards. You can't go make space in your bank, then go back to Ghrim and change the allocation again. Unless there really was a silent change (and I haven't tested yet), this latter is the most likely scenario to lead to believe a change had occurred. Qloque (talk) 10:14, March 19, 2013 (UTC)

There is a maximum limit. You wouldn't be able to do it for a full year. See the discussion above on this talk page. But otherwise, yes, that was the point of the original text. Functioning while Free[edit source]

Yes, your kingdom keeps running while you are a free player. But I doubt it's a good idea, as you're unable to keep your approval high, as well as not being able to top up the coffers as needed. IP83.101.44.209 (talk) 18:28, December 7, 2013 (UTC)
I left RS for around 18 months leaving my kindom with near max money and approval.  When I got back I expected it to be trashed but in fact had around half-full treasury and 60-ish% approval rating.  I did NOT get 18 months worth of collections.  I did get something (maybe 1-3 months worth?).  Spooky Xero (talk) 10:18, March 28, 2015 (UTC)

Actually, it's 30 days. If you don't touch anything for 30 days, even capping approval or depositing money, everything stops after 30 days of inactivity. --Saftzie (talk) 22:00, March 28, 2015 (UTC)

I don't think anyone other than Jagex knows exactly. Given previous discussion above, it's less than a year. However, it would take a long time to find out by experimentation. Using a binary search (probably the fastest way other than being lucky at guessing) could require up to 8 trials. The best case scenario for all 8 trials would be (167+30)+(83+30)+...+(1+30) = 569 days. The worst case would be (365-167)+(365-83)+...+(365-1) = 2591 days. What does 'Your coffers are full' mean?

So I ran a test last time, and found it was about 228 days to max - but I had issues as my rating dropped down to 90% at one point - i think it read max at 234, so I calcualted 228 should be best. All my workers were set to non-nest work. This time around, I have 10 on maples and 5 on mahg. I'm currently at day 220 to verify, with 3 days at 99% ( see below for why ).

I have found 2 bugs. First, about every 15-26 days, I needed to check twice to maintain 100%; I have had to restock my coffers and rake weeds within the same game day. There was also an issue were my coffers were down 75k, but my rating was 100%, so I refilled to 7.5m max. 11 hours later, I was again down 75k, but this time I was at 99%. Fortunately I noticed I needed to chech twice. However, I believe this has been patched, as I haven't had a double 99 day in 64 days. Finally, I swear one day, since the patch, my kingdom never dropped to 99% and my coffers never decreased.

I'm wondering, what makes a kingdom max? It can't be based on nests, as 10 workers on maples and 5 on teaks, with all quests completed, would yield a total of 1,575 nests and 1,001 seed nests in 169 days, and I'm well past that.

Next Question - decimal places saved for rating I have an excel spread sheet as a personal calculator. Estimates are based on days, rating, and yields based on wiki ( I assume the expected resources are listed as throne, and not all quests ). If I set the option to all quests, I increase the listed yields by 1.499159664 ( based on royal v throne logs listed on wiki ). Based on my current log, my rating is 99.98654709, or 99.987 to 3 decimals, 99.99 to 2 decimals, and 100 to 1 decimal.

Why this makes a difference - once we know the days to max, how the decimals are dealt with, will make a difference for the calculations, to get back to 100%. I'm assuming they are not using an array to hold each day, then calc. Rather, they keep track of 100-0 and the number of days at different ratings. For example, if they only keep 1 decimal place, getting 1 99%, will be 'erased' after 5 days, because of rounding. If they keep 2 places, a 99% would be 'erased' after 8 days; 3 places is 11 days. 4 places is 15 days, 5p/18d, 6p/21d, 7p/25d, 8p/28d, 9 places and beyond would be erased after 29 days. So I'm wondering, how would I test the rating? How can I see if they round?
