Move this to hiscores? Since that is the name Jagex uses. --Whiplash 11:09, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

Is it appropriate to say farming and construction are the least used skills based on the number of people who have a hiscore?--Jakfr0st 00:31, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

No many players may use them though not get their levels high.  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Whiplash (talk).

People who update the tables should update the "as of" date as well as the levels or numbers of players. Why do so few people do so?

RS Classic accounts[edit source]

I'm not sure about accounts in RS they appear in the highscore as well? or is there a separate one, or is there none at all? For instance, I searched "Tks" (first player to fishing and cooking), but found no match in the high scores. Aurora (talk)07:48, 26 May 2007 (UTC) TKS IS BACK!

I don't believe it! Zezima is no longer #1! He must be really ticked... Anyway, that should be changed in the article. White partyhat old.png C Teng talk 00:42, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

Angry like a fox. ;) He does this whenever there's a new skill--sits back a little and waits while the best powertraining methods are discovered, and then returns to dominating the hiscores. nekobawt 00:47, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
What about Uloveme and Yogosun? Were any of them #1 before Zezima came? White partyhat old.png C Teng talk 00:48, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
Couldn't tell ya. Zez' has been around since way before my time, and I'm not a stalker. :P I do know that he let N0valyfe (or whatever his name was) be #1 for a little while before he retired, though. Gesture of good will, or something. --nekobawt 00:53, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
You may be right, Zezi and the rest will be back within a month. White partyhat old.png C Teng talk 00:57, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

There's a slight problem with that. I saw Zezima at Edgeville the day after summoning came out when I was doing a clue scroll. Not many people were there, so some other players were casually talking and hoped that Zezima would speak. He did, to much of our surprise. He stated that "I'm stopping at 86 :)", "I have other goals". So, I guess we shouldn't be expecting him at #1 for a long time.

Spiked boots detail.pngDoomedrusher|Talk||Contributions||Edit Count| 13:26, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

So, Zezima was there, fans weren't following and annoying him until he logged off, and he accually responded? And he isn't going to try and train summoning back up? I didn't think that would happen. White partyhat old.png C Teng talk 17:45, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
Neither did I. Edgeville was a safe haven from noobs at that moment, because there weren't any charm dropping monsters, chicken coops, wolves, or spirit weeds there =P. I'm pretty sure that he stated stopping at 86, considering that I have not been hallucinating lately.

Runecrafting[edit source]

Heads up, any day (heck, any hour) now, Runecrafting, that many years old skill even f2pers ignore will finally be getting over a million people with at least level 30, meaning you will actually have to beat others to end up on the hiscores. We should try and mark the day and hour and minute of this momentous event. -- 15:09, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

ok, I was a bit off when I wrote that but now, I can say that any hour now, it will be at a million so we should try and mark the hour and minute of this momentous event, perhaps even the player. However, should we use GMT or EST or what because that will possibly change the day?--Diberville 20:07, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
Wait, what? White partyhat old.png C Teng talk 21:43, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
Runecrafting: it's about to get over one million users with over level 30. Instead of a minimum score, you will actuall have to have a hiscore to get on the list. Exciting, any moment now that number will be reached.--Diberville 14:57, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

Naming players[edit source]

I undid an edit by an IP recently, so I was just wondering what others think about naming player in this article. I believe it's OK, since Jagex does it all the time in the hiscores. What do you think? Magic potion (4).pngCFLM Talk # Sign 08:25, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

I think if we allow the naming of players, then people will start finding more reasons to get their names in articles. And it would easily become something that draws people for no other reason than to get their name up. I am never about following a rule just for its own sake, but only when it has a purpose. This rule makes a lot of sense to me.--Degenret01 21:47, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

Where does it say that you're not allowed to even mention players in articles? I think we should be allowed to do that. I actually even think some players do deserve articles. The main reason you say we can't is because people will think they can make they're own pages. So, just delete the page and enforce the rule. That's not hard. White partyhat old.png C Teng talk 02:28, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

No man, you have me wrong. The main reason I don't think players should get named is because then we would have to decide how many players names could be mentioned in each skill, then that would become an argument, and lots of hurtful and angry things would be said, and people would argue that the lowest as well as the highest in each skill should get named, and ad infinitum. Ok, get me now? Where would it end? And its mentioned in the style guide. Seperately from the players don't get articles.--Degenret01 04:23, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

If there is a substantial accomplishment that has been achieved by a certain player, what is the big deal here? This whole article is largely about individual player accomplishments anyway, and not something like an article discussing strategy and training methods for a specific skill. I reverted a previous attempt to remove player names from Level 99 skills, as I felt it was a bad faith edit without any sort of prior discussion. At least here there is an attempt to gain some community consensus on the topic.
The question here isn't really so much about naming specific players, but to note under what circumstances a player would be mentioned at all. What is an accomplishment of such note that the player would stand out far and away beyond other players? I personally don't think being #1 on the high scores merits such attention, but that is a personal opinion on the matter. Mentioning Zezima for accomplishing 1 billion exp is certainly something of note, as is the first to reach level 99 in all skills. As for who is the current "king of the hill" on the high scores list... so what? That is like asking who came in 5th place in the 2008 Olympic Decathlon... and certainly not something noteworthy. --Robert Horning 05:55, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
So you're saying we shouldn't mention Zezima at all on the wiki? A lot of readers would want something about him. This wiki isn't official, we don't have to only write things about things acknowledged by Jagex. (Actually, Jagex did mention Zezima and Durial321 at least once.) This is the wiki for all things RuneScape. White partyhat old.png C Teng talk 12:47, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
I never said that we shouldn't ever mention them. On the contrary, I think players like Zezima absolutely should be mentioned, along with a few other players. But it has to be in context to the article, and it must be something incredibly noteworthy. Something more akin to notability guidelines on Wikipedia, if I have to give a comparison. How many players really fit this level of notability? I don't think being the current #1 player on the high scores list necessarily fits that sort of notability, but it is subject to debate as we are doing here.
This would be a very few players that have achieved fame well above and beyond a small community like a clan or a single fan site. I don't think there are more than a dozen players that would fit this sort of criteria at best. So what do you think would be a noteworthy accomplishment to merit discussion of a player in the game? Achieving level 30 defense? --Robert Horning 01:13, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
No, not you, I was talking to Degenret. White partyhat old.png C Teng talk 01:53, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

As long as the criteria to be named in an article are very high, then what I mentioned before really has no chance of becoming a problem. Things such as first to 99, first to max a skill, these are fine. NOT something that can change more than once every few months or so.--Degenret01 20:41, 17 September 2008 (UTC)

These are the players I think should be allowed to be mentioned in articles:
  • Level-99 highest-skill players, like Miles15 of Hiscores.
  • Famous glitch-abusing players, or players related to the glitch, like Cursed You.
  • Number-1 of the Hiscores, like Kingduffy1
  • Other notable and famous players, like Zezima.
White partyhat old.png C Teng talk 01:39, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
These are all legitimate, although the only one that is worth discussing here in relationship to this article is Kingduffy1 and being in the #1 position. I should note here that he has a high enough lead in experience points that this position isn't going to be changing more than once a month or so... if even that. Even if it turns into a contest for the #1 spot swapping between a couple of different players, that isn't such a big deal either, and may be something noteworthy about who is going for the #1 spot. So does this particular article deserve a mention of KingDuffy based on this criteria? Degenret? --Robert Horning 12:56, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

Hitpoints[edit source]

Okay, so in the Hitpoints article it says the leader in xp, and yet in no other skill article does it mention the leader. What exactly is the thinking behind this? If we're going to have the leaders, put them in all the articles, if not it just makes the HP article look unprofessionalJimInRS 13:54, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

Speculated Skills (Sailing)[edit source]

Multiple times in the past, skills have been speculated as coming out (Carpentry, Hunter, Slayer) months or years before they did, and I think a page on such skills, especially sailing, would be much better than cramming them into the hiscores page. --Panama 1984 21:32, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

Removal of total number of ranked users[edit source]

User:Lil diriz 77 has removed the table of the total number of ranked users from this page... for apparently a stylistic reason and because he didn't like it in this page. Rather than getting into an edit war over this issue, I'm questioning the logic of removing this item. IMHO, with the number of people who have participated in the past to gather this information and to put the content up here, at least something, anything, on this talk page would be useful.

Barring any sort of discussion here, I'm going to put that table back. Otherwise, I'd like to get some consensus on what information, if any at all, we should be putting on this page that comes from the actual high scores tables on the Runescape website. I'm not necessarily objecting to removing all of the information here, but this has been in the past a target for some users who feel certain pieces of information are simply too trivial to have here, and have arbitrarily removed the information in one form or another. It also shouldn't be the decision of just one person to remove this information and expect such a policy to stick. --Robert Horning 16:25, December 10, 2009 (UTC)

Highscores on Userpages[edit source]

I recently put up a user stats template on my userpage and was wondering if it's possible insert some sort of code so that my stats are taken from the Runescape hiscores tables rather than having to regularly update them here on my page. Member's only[edit source]

It was just announced at the bottom of the article concerning the new website layout the the highscores will be p2p only starting next week. This was done to give new players a fair advantage over dormant accounts that haven't been used in months or even years. Personally, I'm incredibly angry as I just started saying they should remove dormant accounts from highscores after 30 days or so. It's one thing to deny f2p an update, it's another to take away something we've had from the beginning. 17:02, November 15, 2011 (UTC)

One of my biggest problems is that this effectively makes all ranking data (and 99/200mill xp data) inacurate as there are probably quite a few players with these levels who are f2p. Not to mention the fact that, consitering f2p have no adventurures logs, there will be no way to show your stats if you're f2p. Mininum total level to be ranked[edit source]

So the article says "Minimum level to be ranked Overall is 34". Now I went to the hiscores, and there are four people with 33 total level because they have 9 HP. So basically that means the mininum level to be ranked overall is actually 33. I don't know if it should be edited, but if you agree, someone should edit it.

Hiscores on each skill page[edit source]

I learned today that a hiscores template sentence appears as the second paragraph of the main articles of various skills. This should not appear there as it clutters what should be an introduction to a skill. Hiscores are a real-world subject, not an ingame concept. Some players are interested in it, and some play against themselves without the need to compare to others. Talk pages on the skills I visited questioned why the hiscores were mentioned on the skill page at all. I propose that this template get moved to the end of the respective skill guides.
