# Talk:Guthixian butterfly

This talk page is for discussing the Guthixian butterfly page.

Let's figure out how much experience you get per butterfly.  I had 75 runecrafting, was getting 1.2k xp/butterfly.  Midway through, leveled up to 76; 1,216 xp/butterfly.   Soy the Stig or to friends, Xolecon 16:24, March 12, 2013 (UTC)

I have 65 ranged and got 1040 xp per butterfly, It's probably a simple level based formula, I doubt it would be too complicated for a temporary event. Can someone make a table with level and xp gained which we can fill in? I don't know how to do it myself. 04ismailjj6 (talk) 16:29, March 12, 2013 (UTC)

It is really simple: skill level * 16. You can double check with mine too! 1008 exp for lvl 63  219.77.114.164 17:03, March 12, 2013 (UTC)

Fishing 81 gives 1782 (81 * 16 = 1296) Rich Farmbrough, 18:38 12 March 2013 (UTC).

I got 1870 xp on level 85, so that would make 22 xp per level. Maybe it is a bit more complicated than that? Elanthiel (talk) 18:39, March 12, 2013 (UTC)

I got 1,760 xp for level 80 Construction. The previous formula would make it 1280 xp at a level 80, making 22 xp per level Nifolia (talk) 18:44, March 12, 2013 (UTC) I heard that it's dependant on your Hunter level? I heard this fro ma clan member, and I have no idea where he heard it from. However, I also have 80 Hunter so if it was I would not be able to tell Nifolia (talk) 19:02, March 12, 2013 (UTC)

i got 1120 xp for lvl 70 dungeoneering. Also got a 3 lvl summoning boost. if it affects anything, my hunter lvl is 75. Savemonkeys0 (talk) 19:43, March 12, 2013 (UTC) on my alt account, got 592 for lvl 37, 608 for lvl 38, and 624 for lvl 39, all dungeoneering. my hunter lvl is 46. noticed a 51/49 summoning boost as well. Savemonkeys0 (talk) 22:28, March 12, 2013 (UTC) Added 40, 41, 42, 43, and 46. Forgot to write down 45 >_< Savemonkeys0 (talk) 18:22, March 25, 2013 (UTC)

Added Farming, Construction, Hunter, and summoning for 6-7. 217.210.187.217 01:21, March 18, 2013 (UTC)

Added some skills. Looks like the Xp is the same for all of them. I'm interested in data from a person with all skills 99 and non-120 Dungeoneering though... Anyone? 18:08, March 18, 2013 (UTC)

Added more and added skill to my past edit. 11:31, March 20, 2013 (UTC)

Added lv91 xp. I'm also the one that put in the lv89 and lv90 values for Construction. Nothing special here. (talk) 01:00, March 26, 2013 (UTC)

If you have level 99 in everything but not 120 Dungeoneering, you get Dungeoneering experience. The function appears to be: {\displaystyle {\begin{aligned}Exp=f(level)&={\begin{cases}6\times level&if\ level<40\\16\times level&if\ 40\leq level<80\\22\times level&if\ 80\leq level\end{cases}}\\&=level\times (6+10\times H(level-40)+6\times H(level-80))\\\end{aligned}}} where ${\displaystyle H(x)}$ is the Heaviside function. Or, in layman's terms: if your level is under 40, 6*level; if its between 40 (inclusive) and 80 (exclusive), 16*level; and if its above 80 (inclusive), 22*level. ## Level boost?

When I caught the butterfly for the first time, I got a +4 in Summoning. I am level 96, making 100/96. This also didn't decrease until I summoned a familiar (Iron Titan), reducing me down to 90 (which I would've been the normal level if I was 96/96. Has anyone else had a level boost of any sort? Nifolia (talk) 18:49, March 12, 2013 (UTC)

I did notice I got a +3 to Summoning at some point, making it 76/73... I'm not sure when I got it, though. LilacLielac (talk) 18:50, March 12, 2013 (UTC)

+3 boost to summoning for 63 too.218.103.163.220 05:25, March 13, 2013 (UTC)

lifepoints boostted from 3200 to 3320. 218.103.163.220 05:26, March 13, 2013 (UTC)

When you catch a Guthixian butterfly, a small ball of light floats up from your hands. I've so far seen red, with the Constitution symbol, cyan with the Summoning symbol and purple with the prayer symbol. 83.101.44.209 16:09, March 13, 2013 (UTC)

I have 99 Sum and only boosts to 103. The boost must be 5% rounded down, since 5% on top of 99 is 103.95. Dsctatom (talk) 18:51, March 19, 2013 (UTC)

Not that surprising, almost everything in runescape is rounded down. 83.101.44.209 19:22, March 19, 2013 (UTC)

## They restore prayer

Even if you've hit your limit, catching Guthixian butterflies restores prayer points. At level 81, I regained 121 at 0 points, and then went from 121 to 243 when I caught a second one. LilacLielac (talk) 18:49, March 12, 2013 (UTC)

Update: Starting at 0, my prayer points went up like so:

121
243
364
486
607
729

I think the prayer points restore is 121.5 for level 81. That would be 1.5 points per Prayer level, if it's neatly divisible for all restores... anyone got more data? LilacLielac (talk) 18:57, March 12, 2013 (UTC)

Due to the speculation above that Hunter level affects things, I would like to note that mine is currently 74. LilacLielac (talk) 19:13, March 12, 2013 (UTC)

prayer points boosted from 700 to 735. 218.103.163.220 05:21, March 13, 2013 (UTC)

Each butterfly restores 5% of either hit points, prayer points, or summoning level. As usual this is rounded down. I did not test if the summoning boost can be used for effigies. The boost can go above your max, but of course no more than by 5%. Hit points deplete as normal, since it does not actually boost your maximum hit points (like bonfires do), only your current hit points (like the thermal spa does). 18:10, March 14, 2013 (UTC)
Scratch that, they restore 15% of whichever of the three stats is depleted most, and never restore beyond the max. Except when all three are fully restored, a random one is boosted by 5%. 18:32, March 14, 2013 (UTC)

## Wording

Firstly please not that the XP bonus is not a simple multiple of level (although it seems a simpler calculation than XP lamps).

Secondly the various skills which are boosted, are only boosted above maximum if they are not currently drained by more than the boost (presumably) which is obviously rare for hunter, but pretty common for pray and summoning.

Rich Farmbrough, 20:10 12 March 2013 (UTC).

## Locations Unnecessary?

Is it really necessary to list even examples of locations? Whenever I visit a "regular" area not on the current list, there will be butterflies. I think it should just say something like "butterflies appear in all major locations of RuneScape, excluding places like minigames etc." Thingummywut (talk) 09:31, March 13, 2013 (UTC)

I agree that it's unnecessary. As far as I can tell, the butterflies have the same wander range as implings, but can't cross water or mountainous regions; essentially ground floor range of players. Nothing special here. (talk) 17:47, March 17, 2013 (UTC)

## Guthix - Gain Experience

Why aren't experience points given to free-to-play users in f2p skills? Every player should be able to get a xp gift, depending on their combat level.

Technobat25 03:20, March 21, 2013 (UTC)

Edited the introduction paragraph to change it to past-tense, as the butterflies have been removed from the game with the conclusion of the event. I am not overly familiar with the general format for articles on past content, so I will leave the decision of whether or not to change the rest of the article to past-tense to another person.

## Examine text

When you catch a butterfly, it gives you xp in your lowest skill, and in my case it was magic. However, instead of the examine text saying "You feel the power of the runes surging through you", it said "You feel magical power coursing through your body". Jagex must have changed the examine text for this year, so I went ahead and changed what it says on the page :P EmileWillows (talk) 01:23, April 20, 2014 (UTC)

## Elf City, or Glitch?

While in the Crwys section of the Prifddinas, I was gathering herbs when the message "A Guthixian butterfly has appeared." came in my chatbox. I did not see one, but was in a hurry to get herb run completed on juju, so didn't look very thoroughly (I assumed it was just City content I'd missed reading anything about).

I later looked up to check whether it was noted as being part of the City, and checked arround for any flower patches near by (there are none).

Things to note:

1) It was certainly not my butterfly - I don't grow the plants, and there aren't any, anywhere near there, anyway.

2) It was definnitely whilst I was on the same platform as the herb patch that it appeared, as the message was between harvests of herbs from that patch.

3) I've not noticed it occurring again, and no one else I've asked has, so far (makes me think it may have been a glitch).

Does anyone else have any info, or sightings?86.180.236.217 09:17, September 26, 2014 (UTC)

I caught a Guthixian butterfly yesterday (25-09-2014 19:00 BST) at the Elder tree patch also in the Crwys section while Voice of Seren was active there. I went there after another member of my clan told me he caught one there. I have a feeling it might be related to the Ravensworn title (or some other title) I'm not sure though. 09:53, September 26, 2014 (UTC) EDITED: 09:55, September 26, 2014 (UTC)
Guthixian butterflies can appear while the Voice of Seren is active in the Farming clan, and you interact with a farming patch. IP83.101.44.209 (talk) 10:27, September 26, 2014 (UTC)
The strange thing is that I didn't interact with a farming patch before catching the butterfly. 10:32, September 26, 2014 (UTC)

## New butterfly types in 2019

There are three types of butterflies for this year's event.

Green butterflies provide direct XP in the lowest skill and seem to act like the old butterflies. They have a daily catch limit of 10.

Yellow butterflies provide bonus xp in the lowest skill. They have a daily catch limit of 10.

White butterflies provide 5X direct xp according to the ingame text message. They have a daily catch limit of 1. They have a larger image than the other types.

Each butterfly type has its own catch limit.

That's correct, that's why Green Guthixian butterfly, White Guthixian butterfly, and Yellow Guthixian butterfly were created on Monday. ;) 07:30, 17 April 2019 (UTC)

## Archeology experience

As of writing this, it is the 21st of October 2020, meaning the embargo on Archeology lifted 2 days ago. I was expecting Guthixian Butterflies to now give exp in Archeology since I have only gotten it to lvl 5. Anyone aware if this is expected behaviour? If Archeology is not able to get exp from butterflies, it would be good to mention it in the article.Scraprune (talk) 08:49, 21 October 2020 (UTC)

Late reply, but this was a bug that was patched on October 26th. MrDew (talk) 06:35, 9 November 2020 (UTC)
