Untitled[edit source]

This page is becoming chaotic. Maybe we should divide it into subpages (Graphical improvements/NPCs, Graphical improvements/items, et cetera) or something else? Ancient talisman.png Oil4 Talk 11:33, October 4, 2009 (UTC)

Chaotic? The article is still under a major revamp, after all. At the moment, there isn't a large number of images, so I think we should leave it as it is, for now. We'll see later on. C.ChiamTalk 11:35, October 4, 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, I meant later on. If all of the graphical improvements are put on this page... I daren't even think of that OMG! Ancient talisman.png Oil4 Talk 11:36, October 4, 2009 (UTC)

Still images[edit source]

If anyone's not too busy, could they take a still image of this gif and add transparency to the picture for use in the article? We should limit the use of animations as much as possible, as we're using still images for comparison of old and new versions. Also, the black dragon gif in the article needs to be replaced too. Thanks. C.ChiamTalk 11:55, October 4, 2009 (UTC)

Delivary. kitty.pngPsycho Robot talkSilver bar.png 06:04, October 9, 2009 (UTC)
Thank you. C.ChiamTalk 06:21, October 9, 2009 (UTC)

Guideline[edit source]

Oh and just a guideline for addition of images:

 1. Adjust the image size to fit its counterpart
 2. Limit the use of animations as much as possible
 3. Images that go under "NPCs#Characters" must be full body images
 4. Images that go under items, must be of the item itself and not an image of a player wielding the particular item (assuming that the item is equipment). Otherwise, this doesn't apply.
 5. Remember to add the Historical image template to the old version with the reason being: "Graphics for this NPC/Monster/Area/Item has been updated" (this is generalised, not a strict rule)
 6. Ensure that the historical image is no longer in its respective article
 7. Remember to add "|[Monster name] (before)" or "|[Monster name] (after)" to the image links.

New section[edit source]

I think there should be a section for things like rocks (which had a nice update) and trees and stuff. Maybe call it 'Interactive scenery' or 'Miscellaneous' or something? Ancient talisman.png Oil4 Talk 06:14, October 6, 2009 (UTC)

Seeing as the "Areas" header didn't have much to show, I've changed it to "Areas/Scenery", so the things you've mentioned can go there. Rocks though...don't they look mostly the same anyhow Wink? C.ChiamTalk 07:23, October 6, 2009 (UTC)
Edit conflict. Frown Caleb said what I was about to say. Unicorn horn dust.png Evil Yanks talk 07:24, October 6, 2009 (UTC)
Eh... You do remember the old, pointy rocks, which were all one colour, and you do know that rocks now show ores in them as 'lines' (indicating that there is a difference between the ore and the rock)? Ancient talisman.png Oil4 Talk 14:26, October 6, 2009 (UTC)
Oh, those rocks. I thought you meant the regular grey rocks, not the ore rocks. C.ChiamTalk 14:27, October 6, 2009 (UTC)

Well[edit source]

This give the memory's of the old times and for new players a look at the past and who though of this is a genius *hums thnks fr th mmorys* Twig Talk 772kZGs.png 21:42, October 9, 2009 (UTC)

Animations[edit source]

I added the dragon longsword special to the items page, I am not sure if it worked though. Both the images have gone weird, and I am not sure if they have a place on the page. Also, should the two other images on the abby whip page of it being wielded and the special attack be added?? I felt it is better ask the community rather then be bold since I am not sure myself. Unicorn horn dust.png Evil Yanks talk 00:41, October 10, 2009 (UTC)

Which ones are you talking about? kitty.pngPsycho Robot talkSilver bar.png 02:11, October 12, 2009 (UTC)
Caleb removed it. It was this edit Unicorn horn dust.png Evil Yanks talk 02:53, October 12, 2009 (UTC)
I thought this page was for stuff like that... Concerned kitty.pngPsycho Robot talkSilver bar.png 03:11, October 12, 2009 (UTC)
Same Unicorn horn dust.png Evil Yanks talk 03:24, October 12, 2009 (UTC)
I didn't think that we should have animations as if we included too many of them, the page would be extremely laggy, not to mention the fact that the images of items themselves are more than sufficient. Just my opinion, of course. C.ChiamTalk 06:25, October 13, 2009 (UTC)
We could make a sub-page for animations, it just seems disingenuous to the intent of the project not to include them in some way kitty.pngPsycho Robot talkSilver bar.png 14:21, October 13, 2009 (UTC)
I am with psycho on this one. I feel that the page will end up being split anyway, so we might as well make those soon-to-be subpages as comphrensive as possible. Unicorn horn dust.png Evil Yanks talk 02:58, October 14, 2009 (UTC)
Mm, a separate subpage. Sounds fine to me, I don't disagree. C.ChiamTalk 07:23, October 16, 2009 (UTC)
Are we making the subpage for all animations or just Special attack animations (I prefer second) Unicorn horn dust.png Evil Yanks talk 07:26, October 16, 2009 (UTC)
I prefer second too. Are there any animation updates that don't belong in the Special attack animations category anyway? C.ChiamTalk 07:28, October 16, 2009 (UTC)
There could be things such as teleports or attack animations. I noticed on the Mining page that they have the an animation of the old mining action there. Unicorn horn dust.png Evil Yanks talk 07:33, October 16, 2009 (UTC)
Oh, then I'd think that the first one would be better. There aren't a whole lot of such animations anyway, so it should be fine to include them. C.ChiamTalk 07:34, October 16, 2009 (UTC)
I just thought of something else. All the emotes are about to be updated with the next animation pack thing according to Jagex. They might all also need to go on the page. Unicorn horn dust.png Evil Yanks talk 07:36, October 16, 2009 (UTC)

Full NPCs[edit source]

There is already a section for Chatheads, but should there be a section for full length NPC images?? Such as File:Caroline.gif and this?? Unicorn horn dust.png Evil Yanks talk 05:14, October 13, 2009 (UTC)

Do you mean every NPC should be in a section? NTHVZBucket detail.pngrwojy 05:22, October 13, 2009 (UTC)
No wait, I understand what you mean, and I say yes, make a new section for NPCs. ENUMOKBucket detail.pngrwojy 05:42, October 13, 2009 (UTC)
We already have those, the "Characters" section? C.ChiamTalk 06:25, October 13, 2009 (UTC)
I can't believe that I didn't see that section O_o Unicorn horn dust.png Evil Yanks talk 06:59, October 13, 2009 (UTC)

Double old versions[edit source]

For the Ket-Zek, after finding the original images from the revisions of the page, I found out that the Ket-Zek had actually undergone two graphical updates to its current form, see File:Runescape monsters ketzek-2.gif and :File:Ket-zek.png. I'm not exactly sure what action I should take. Should I use the oldest version or somehow include both? Hopefully, the discussion that results from this can serve as a guideline for future cases. C.ChiamTalk 17:04, October 16, 2009 (UTC)

Actually both were from the same graphical era. The orange KetZek came out last to warn the player that Jad was next. Still this is a legitimate question to ask because there are some things which have been updated more than once, such as the three abyssal whip models.
Also dragons are due for another graphical update to make them look like the Dragon from the tutorial. I think perhaps stacking the update comparisons two or three across is a bad idea. I'll work on a possible layout in my sandbox and report back later. kitty.pngPsycho Robot talkSilver bar.png 17:12, October 16, 2009 (UTC)
Alright, sounds good, thanks. C.ChiamTalk 17:13, October 16, 2009 (UTC)
After toying around with it, I think we need to specify a pixel height for each row so the table has a sense of unity. Is there any way we can specify a pixel height for cells? What's the syntax for that? kitty.pngPsycho Robot talkSilver bar.png 17:55, October 16, 2009 (UTC)
Hmm, I agree. This isn't my expertise, so I'll ask Azliq for help if she isn't too busy. C.ChiamTalk 03:13, October 17, 2009 (UTC)
The reason I ask is because my idea to handle the problem is to create a set of mini-tables for each individual entry which are themselves arranged into a row using a normal format, like
|mini-table 1
|mini-table 2
|mini-table 3

|mini-table 4
|mini-table 5 (this one is wider so there's no room for table 6 on this row)

{|mini-table 6
And so on. Since each row of mini-tables is independent, each row can have a different amount of columns, and thus can handle instances where there are 3 or more updates to show. Since each of these mini-tables are independent hwoever, we need to have a concrete pixel height for each one, so they line up properly, or else they'll all be whatever height is necessary for the images, which will look chaotic. kitty.pngPsycho Robot talkSilver bar.png 03:28, October 17, 2009 (UTC)
I see what you mean. More, and more trouble. C.ChiamTalk 07:12, October 17, 2009 (UTC)

Better layout?[edit source]

Instead of using multiple columns and nested tables, it is more easier if we used arrows to show the improvements.

Strange box Abyssal whip Dragon scimitar
Strange box (before) Strange box (after) Abyssal whip (ancient) Abyssal whip (after) Dragon scimitar (before) Dragon scimitar (after)

Calebchiam had suggested using templates, so I created a template for the arrow but not for the wikitable itself. Each item/NPC/monster is now contained in a single cell/column, as opposed to 2-3 columns as proposed earlier. The "Before" and "After" sub-headers have also been removed, as they were use repetitively, and were not really beneficial, IMO.

The default arrow size is 350% and the default color is red, but this can changed if required. Simply change the defaults at the template, or use . See the documentation and examples at Template:Right.

I've created a different version at User:Azliq7/Graphical improvements. Take a look, and use this format if you want.   az talk   10:00, October 17, 2009 (UTC)

Hmm, is it possible to decrease the Wikitable size for monsters? It's larger than the page. C.ChiamTalk 10:02, October 17, 2009 (UTC)
I think it's clearer, especially for double improvements (whip). Ancient talisman.png Oil4 Talk 10:03, October 17, 2009 (UTC)
Looks good to me, although I think the arrows should be blue, it matches things better >_> kitty.pngPsycho Robot talkSilver bar.png 14:12, October 17, 2009 (UTC)

Pay dirt![edit source]

After losing it for nearly 2 years I finally found my old flash drive with a treasure trove of screenshots of RuneScape back before the HD updates! I looked through them (there are a LOT!) and finally found a suitable old black dragon image to replace the animation. I'll be going through all these old images looking for better versions than the ones we have, but if you have a specific request, I'll bump it up to my next priority. kitty.pngPsycho Robot talkSilver bar.png 01:10, October 17, 2009 (UTC)

That's awesome! This will help the article a lot. C.ChiamTalk 03:05, October 17, 2009 (UTC)

Animations[edit source]

In case anyone doesn't know yet, we have Graphical improvements/Animations now. C.ChiamTalk 11:16, October 17, 2009 (UTC)

What Happened to the Area Graphical Improvements?[edit source]

I was just wondering where the area graphical improvements went...Were they deleted or put on a seperate page, or what? Mr. Zurkon 13:13, October 17, 2009 (UTC)

Okay, looking at the history, it was deleted. Was this an accident or what? Mr. Zurkon 13:27, October 17, 2009 (UTC)

Ah, thanks for pointing that out. The page was undergoing a revamp and the section was missed out. C.ChiamTalk 13:59, October 17, 2009 (UTC)
Ohh, thanks for putting the images back in, and for the quick reply to my message.Mr. Zurkon 14:11, October 17, 2009 (UTC)

RSC[edit source]

With the re-release of RSC, should images of all the monsters in RCS form be taken?? Unicorn horn dust.png Evil Yanks talk 07:17, November 12, 2009 (UTC)

I don't know, maybe later. IMO, we should sort the RS2 images out first. Btw, when the new dragons come out, we will see 3 pictures at a dragon, right? Old, what is now, what will be.13:41, March 13, 2010 (UTC)
I have a fairly decent active classic account. If it's decided that RSC images are wanted someone message me and I'll get right on it. I'd personally love to see RSC images here as well. --BreakIt 17:16, May 18, 2010 (UTC)
I don't think we need RSC pics here....theres already a RSC wiki for those, right?--Recent uploads SpineTalkGuest book 12:26, June 10, 2010 (UTC)
RSC was once (and technically still is) Runescape. RSC -> RS2 was a graphical improvement, among other things. This page is about graphical improvements that have happened to Runescape is it not? --BreakIt 20:13, June 10, 2010 (UTC)

Monsters[edit source]

The Penance Queen in the monsters section isn't really a graphical improvement. It's just showing it in standard detail to high detail. I think someone should remove it. Recent uploads SpineTalkGuest book 22:52, April 6, 2010 (UTC)

Not really... Look. The old one is very fat and the new one is much thinner. Or: I killed her in SD and she looked like the new version with less textures. Better? Smile User_talk:Fswe1 Fswe1 Brassica Prime symbol.png 16:31, April 7, 2010 (UTC)

stats graphical improvements[edit source]

File:Old and new skills interface.png|thumb|300px|this imagecurrently, on the page there are at Interface, the stats interface 8 images, which could also be cropped into 1 image:

if not, please tell me why Joeytje50 23:44, May 17, 2010 (UTC)

I will add it to the page soon, if nobody has a reason why it shouldn't be changed. Joeytje50 14:47, May 18, 2010 (UTC)

You shouldn't, as Jagex might always surprise us and change it, thus making this image out-of-date, which cannot be edited very quick. The current eight are also better because it shows not only the skill icons themselves, but also the old button sections and things like total level location. Like, the quest points were once displayed together with the skills. User_talk:Fswe1 Fswe1 Brassica Prime symbol.png 15:44, May 18, 2010 (UTC)

Incorrect photographs[edit source]

In the case of the mill lane mill and the rune essence, instead of going from old to new, it goes from new to a blurry version of the new one (explanation?). In the case of Fairy Nuff's grotto, it goes from old to old and blurry (fairy nuff's grotto itself doesn't exist anymore (she now has a house and the indention in the Zanaris wall is now gone), so that one might be needing deletion). Wrathanet talk edits Guthix mjolnir.png 13:15, June 17, 2010 (UTC)

I agree with you on the Rune essence image, but not for the windmill and grotto though. The Rune essence image merely shows a change in textures, there hasn't actually been a significant graphical change. For the Windmill and grotto however, it is actually a glitch with the Wikia cache. If you check File:Fairy Nuff's grotto1.png, you will see the updated image, it's just a technical glitch that causes us to see an old (and stretched) version. C.ChiamTalk 13:27, June 17, 2010 (UTC)
Yes, it happens quite a lot. The solution is to revert the image to something random and back to the intended, newest image. User_talk:Fswe1 Fswe1 Brassica Prime symbol.png 14:01, June 17, 2010 (UTC)

"Old" images[edit source]

Why do we upload old versions of images when we can just use external links to accomplish the same thing? For instance, this is the same image as this, but it's an old revision of the current page, which serves the same purpose, and would stop somewhat useless images from being uploaded. Can anyone give me a reason why we should upload old versions? ʞooɔ 07:56, July 5, 2010 (UTC)

Because otherwise it'd be impossible to add the image to the article. User_talk:Fswe1 Fswe1 Brassica Prime symbol.png 08:23, July 5, 2010 (UTC)
Using Extimage, you can. ʞooɔ 08:56, July 5, 2010 (UTC)
Great, then we'll do that. Smile Could you show me an example with Bugs? User_talk:Fswe1 Fswe1 Brassica Prime symbol.png 10:55, July 5, 2010 (UTC)
Oh, and, we could test this template in the article but trying it with the new dragons and Dionysius. =D User_talk:Fswe1 Fswe1 Brassica Prime symbol.png 17:16, July 5, 2010 (UTC)

I think the template needs a little tweaking, but here goes:!Bugs.png/{}px-20090715031141!Bugs.png

ʞooɔ 22:22, July 5, 2010 (UTC)

I does: Bugs has got a frame! I think the dragons and WOM need to be done the old way for now. User_talk:Fswe1 Fswe1 Brassica Prime symbol.png 05:56, July 6, 2010 (UTC)
I changed up the template, frame is gone. It had thumb div classes. Should work fine now. ʞooɔ 23:11, July 6, 2010 (UTC)
Could you explain how it works or could you add Baby red dragon to the list using this technique so that I can see what you've done? Is it possible to resize the image? You are great! Lol User_talk:Fswe1 Fswe1 Brassica Prime symbol.png 06:52, July 7, 2010 (UTC)

Discussion about splitting page[edit source]

I think this page should be split in multiple pages: 1 page for each part of the page. It is also said on top of the page it may cause lag, especially when also running Runescape and/or other programs. the easiest solution is splitting in multiple pages. JOEYTJE50TALKpull my finger 09:44, June 16, 2010 (UTC)

Support - As nom. JOEYTJE50TALKpull my finger 09:44, June 16, 2010 (UTC)

Oppose - I meant the Animations page with the lag. This article doesn't cause lag, it only loads a bit slow. I think that seperate pages will be too small. User_talk:Fswe1 Fswe1 Brassica Prime symbol.png 14:26, June 16, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - Why is the message "Warning: may cause lag." on top of the page, when it doesn't? And btw, the parts ("Detailed", "Inventory" and "Equipment") (to page "/Items") could be combined, the parts ("Characters", "Chatheads" and "Monsters") (to the page "/NPCs") could, and "Areas/Scenery" and "Interfaces" (to the page "/Scenery and interfaces") could. Then the seperate pages aren't too small JOEYTJE50TALKpull my finger 20:18, June 16, 2010 (UTC)

Because it is next to the redirect to the Animations page. It it wasn't intended, I wouldn't have put it so close to it. Furthermore, that'd be okay, but I don't see the similarity of scenery and interfaces. 'Monsters' ís btw big enough. User_talk:Fswe1 Fswe1 Brassica Prime symbol.png 05:05, June 17, 2010 (UTC)

We don't do vote counting, removed the tally. C.ChiamTalk 14:28, June 16, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - The page DOES lag quite a lot for me, even with a quick browser like Chrome(and i don't have a slow computer)(and if it lags at a quick browser and a medium speed computer, how much does it at a slow browser and computer?), so can please the template be re-added and the discussion be re-opened? Another thing, the page keeps growing, and so more lag. At which point will it be splitted? It is 65.518 bytes already, while around 32.000 bytes it should be split(or something). Even another point: the page is extremely long and it keeps getting harder to find an image. JOEYTJE50TALKpull my finger 14:52, July 28, 2010 (UTC)

I have a slow computer and a medium browser (FireFox usually lags like hell) and I have no trouble with this page. Ancient talisman.png Oil4 Talk 09:29, August 17, 2010 (UTC)

Comment - Again. The page is officially too big, as it has more than 32kb info, so should be splitted. The seperate pages will definetely not be too small, as multiple, quite similar sections could be combined. JOEYTJE50TALKpull my finger 02:40, August 15, 2010 (UTC)

I will split the page to subpages, and then place them as templates on this page. That way, it will use significantly less bytes. JOEYTJE50TALKpull my finger 15:37, August 17, 2010 (UTC)
Was that so hard? now we have a fast loading page, and more organized, and still evrything is on it! JOEYTJE50TALKpull my finger 15:56, August 17, 2010 (UTC)

banker detailed ingame heads[edit source]

Please don't remove the detailed ingame heads of the bankers compared with the voids, as the update will come very soon(bout this month) and the dragons were compared too when they came out in Daemonheim, but officially were the old graphics. Thanks! JOEYTJE50TALKpull my finger 13:09, August 18, 2010 (UTC)

New subpage[edit source]

I was thinking of a new subpage; .....Improvements/Faces, regarding the latest facial updates. I already put Faruq at NPCs but it was removed, so shouldn't it have its own subpage? We can also move Joeytje's banker heads there. I thought I'd ask before just creating it, unlike with the Interfaces. User_talk:Fswe1 Fswe1 Brassica Prime symbol.png 05:09, September 3, 2010 (UTC)

If nobody answers by tomorrow, I'll do it. User_talk:Fswe1 Fswe1 Brassica Prime symbol.png 16:42, September 4, 2010 (UTC)
Alright then, I'm doing it. User_talk:Fswe1 Fswe1 Brassica Prime symbol.png 05:39, September 5, 2010 (UTC)
Tadaaaa! User_talk:Fswe1 Fswe1 Brassica Prime symbol.png 05:49, September 5, 2010 (UTC)

Wrap subpages[edit source]

For to be viewable in a fixed width. The current setup causes stretching of small screens and inhibits ability to view some images with conflicting elements (see this FAQ). I know this will make the page longer to scroll, but it must be done. Ryan PM 20:18, September 6, 2010 (UTC)

Subcategories and alphabeticalising[edit source]

I fought I would ask befor I did this but I think it would be a good Idea to split the pages into Subcategories like the NPC page because some pages are getting large e.g Graphical updates/Item can be split into Weapons, Armour and Misc. Graphical updates/NPCs could be split a bit more to include ogres, TzHaar e.c.t, Graphical updates/Chatheads could be split like the NPC page, Graphical updates/Monsters could be split to human, drawf, troll, monster (Which would be the misc section), Locations and scenery could be split to Locations and scenery, Graphical updates/Interfaces can't really be split unless someone has an idea, Graphical updates/Animations is allready split on the page but seperate pages might help it running e.g. Emotes, Skills, Combat and misc. Finally Graphical updates/Inventory could be split to weapons, armour and misc. but they are small images so it might not be need.

The pages could (Should) also be aplphabeticalised.

All of this should hopefully make the pages run and load smoother whilst making it easy to find what you want if your searching for a specific thing[s].

If I get a good idea or a you should do it from someone high up I will start working on it. --UM AaaBattery (talk) 09:43, February 26, 2013 (UTC)

Well, I'm kind of the custodian of graphical updates, so I'll respond. :P I would very much desire for GU/Monsters to be split according to race (I was thinking like Humans, Demons, Dragons, TzHaar, Slayer Monsters, Other for example) and have the new layout as seen on GU/NPCs/... If you would do that, I'd be eternally grateful. GU/Items is getting laggy too, so I think splitting it into Weapons, Armour and Other will suffice. As for GU/NPCs, I didn't think it was necessary to make a subpage for ogres because we have very few images. However, I have lots of ogre images from rs2007 on my computer now, so it might be wise to do so anyway. As for Chatheads, I think the page is fine as it is because chatheads are small things - same for inventory. I'd like to convert the entire Locations and scenery page to the new format (as seen at the bottom of the page) first then maybe split in Cities, Dungeons, Scenery, Other. Interfaces doesn't really have enough entries to be split, I think. And yes, I think EVERY GU page should be alphabeticised (as seen here) - if you're willing to help with that, that would be awesome. Thanks for all the work! User_talk:Fswe1 Fswe1 Brassica Prime symbol.png 13:47, February 26, 2013 (UTC)
OK, I will help with the pages. :) --UM AaaBattery (talk) 15:16, February 26, 2013 (UTC)

Queen Black Dragon post?[edit source]

The Queen Black Dragon was updated in a hidden update. I know it looks different now. If anyone has old pics, post please? I'm actually trying to do something with it. ThanksMezincha (talk) 04:25, May 19, 2013 (UTC)Mezincha

I doubt she has received any form of major graphical update... Anyway, could you describe what has changed? You could also check the QBD's image's file history to be sure. I just did, but didn't notice anything... User_talk:Fswe1 Fswe1 Brassica Prime symbol.png 06:15, May 19, 2013 (UTC)
