This talk page is for discussing the Dreams of Mah page.

Sort of new to editing this wiki. I know the Children of Mah (the name and concept) were confirmed by Mod Jack on Runezone radio at around 4PM gmt. How should I/we reference it? RSMartijn (talk) 19:44, March 20, 2014 (UTC)

We'll have to wait 'til it goes on Youtube before we can cite it, so give it a couple of days. While I'm here, (unless I'm horribly misinterpreting/misremembering), Mod Jack spoke of how Mod Osborne apparently wanted to make the other Mah tribes pretty distinct from the Mahjarrat, pretty much confirming that some of the abilities the Mahjarrat possess are not shared with other members of their race.Adventurer's log Wahisietel (Talk) Quest map icon.png 19:59, March 20, 2014 (UTC)

During the quest, didn't Zaros say that "Mahjarrat" meant "Children of Mah"? If "jarrat" means Children, then "serrat" probably means something else. It could mean anything from guardian and warrior, to healer or jester. Emptylord (talk) 16:52, March 25, 2014 (UTC)

Race name was decided quite late. I see it that Chelon and Serrat are derivations of 'children' (e.g. beloved of). Specifically, I think -serrat could mean dearest and Chelon beloved, but that's not canon/my own view. Open to interpretation.

Children of Mah - Race or Tribe?[edit source]

There is some dispute over whether Children of Mah is the race that the Mahjarrat belong to, or the translation of Mahjarrat itself.

Here are the relevant quotes from Fate of the Gods/Transcript.

Their name means ‘the children of Mah’. Their crystals mark their divine origin. They were unmistakably relations.
— Zaros
The legates refer to them as Stern Judges, but I have learned their true name - Mahjarrat: 'the children of Mah'.
— Zaros

In my opinion, these quotes, especially the second one, points to the latter idea, that Children of Mah is the translation of Mahjarrat into the common tongue. Small recharge gem.png AnselaJonla Slayer-icon.png 12:15, March 27, 2014 (UTC)

Also, as one of the main objections to the proposed alternative race name (Creatures of Mah) is that it's "made up", why not use the demonym for their home: Freneskaens? Small recharge gem.png AnselaJonla Slayer-icon.png 12:18, March 27, 2014 (UTC)
Rowley implies that all the tribes have names that mean "Children of Mah". At any rate, Children of Mah is the only name we have for the race. Adventurer's log Wahisietel (Talk) Quest map icon.png 12:17, March 27, 2014 (UTC)
"Freneskaens" and variants thereof sound a bit like Gielinorian God Wars - arbitrary. Mahjarrat have been referred to sometimes as a tribe, sometimes as a race. The odd thing about them being tribes of one race would be Zaros's affection for the Mahjarrat over the Mahserrat and Chalon-Mah. Ancient talisman.png Oil4 Talk 12:25, March 27, 2014 (UTC)
It was the Mahjarrat that were brought to Gielinor by Icthlarin, which is where Zaros met them first, and it was the Mahjarrat that followed him. Small recharge gem.png AnselaJonla Slayer-icon.png 12:26, March 27, 2014 (UTC)
A fair point. (speculation) Surely Zaros has seen the (remains of) the Mahserrat and Chalon-Mah on Freneskae now? Why didn't he mention them? Another question that comes to mind is why did Iccy only bring with him the Jarrat, but that could be explained by world travel being so exhausting for him and his sis that he was too tired to explore Freneskae further. Ancient talisman.png Oil4 Talk 12:29, March 27, 2014 (UTC)
I got the impression from the relevant memory that he wouldn't have been able to bring more than one tribe because they just wouldn't have worked together. The chelon and serrat were enemies of the jarrat, and Freneskae was a "survival of the fittest" and "rule by strength" kind of environment. Not exactly the sort of atmosphere that promotes inter-tribal cooperation. Small recharge gem.png AnselaJonla Slayer-icon.png 12:31, March 27, 2014 (UTC)
I've just asked Mod Rowley and Mod Jack on twitter if the name of the race is still "Children of Mah". Hopefully that should clear things up. Adventurer's log Wahisietel (Talk) Quest map icon.png 12:32, March 27, 2014 (UTC)
If neither respond, I'm not sure what we'll do. On one hand Jagex may no longer be calling the race "Children of Mah", but there's nothing explicitly saying they aren't, and we don't know what it's changed to, if anything. I'd rather we didn't give the page an unofficial name like "Freneskaens", because the Mahjarrat aren't the only race on Freneskae, Muspah and Nihil fit that description too, and naming it that would imply it to be the official name. But deleting the page and saying the race of the Mahjarrat is unknown wouldn't really work either, since we do have multiple JMod statements saying the name of the race is Children of Mah.
Honestly, I think what Zaros says is simply a lorefail, as like Rowley said, it was written before Mahjarrat Memories was finished and the name for the race was decided. But like I said, it can easily be explained by saying all the tribes have names that mean Children of Mah, as Rowley may have implied. Also worth noting that Mod Michelle created an official wiki page for the Children of Mah after Fate of the Gods was released, so Jagex were definitely considering that to still be the race name then, and Rowley's tweets don't seem to imply that it's changed since then. Adventurer's log Wahisietel (Talk) Quest map icon.png 15:54, March 27, 2014 (UTC)
Sorry, apparently considering that to still be the race name, official wiki does sometimes use pre-release information. Adventurer's log Wahisietel (Talk) Quest map icon.png 16:07, March 27, 2014 (UTC)

Okay, Mod Jack has confirmed that it isn't Children of Mah. Delete the page until we learn their true name, which Mod Jack tenatively suggests that it MAY be "Dreams of Mah" instead, but that's not canon (yet). --Adventurer's log Wahisietel (Talk) Quest map icon.png 10:13, April 2, 2014 (UTC)

November Twitch Stream reveals[edit source]

We'll need to check the VoD to make sure, but...

  • 75 mining is apparently a requirement...though it already was thanks to Plague's End being an indirect requirement? There are others, though?
  • Koschei's Troubles miniquest is a requirement?
  • One of the rewards is a "Shard of Zaros" equivalent for GWD2 (no faction will aggro you). It also increases the maximum bounty sstreak to 400%.
  • 2 quest points!
  • Prerelease coming on the 15th?

Toa Neya (talk) 17:47, November 1, 2016 (UTC)

Also, can we get a specific Talk page for Children of Mah? That page's talk currently redirects here...
