Moving Article[edit source]

In an attempt to not tilt at windmills, I decided to simply go with the inevitable and confirm moving the content to this article instead of reverting the move by User:600613. Per RS:GRAN and due to the fact this is something a bit different than the 2009 Thanksgiving event, sure, I'll go with the idea that this deserves its own article. To keep this from fork\

Yay! I was thinking about moving it yesterday... oh well, you were bolder than me, I guess.   az talk   17:28, November 28, 2009 (UTC)

Emote and Item[edit source]

We should add a link to an image of the moderators response about detective themed emote and item.--Justin8mil 19:02, November 28, 2009 (UTC)

WOM?[edit source]

How do we know that this goes to WOM? I see no evidence... Mage24365 22:40, November 28, 2009 (UTC)

Hiding clues[edit source]

I'm using collapsible boxes to hide the clues. I am aware that not all web browsers support this feature, so it isn't perfect, but I'm trying to keep in the spirit of this quest, where half of the struggle is to try and solve the riddles. For me, it seems like it is simply spoiling the whole process of doing a walk-through in this case when clearly the whole point is to try and solve the riddles.

BTW, please don't remove those collapsible boxes unless you have at least argued your point on this talk page for why you think they should go. I'm not necessarily protective that they must be kept, but I hate being reverted as a common vandal and troll here for trying to put this in. --Robert Horning 01:46, November 29, 2009 (UTC)

the november 29 clues[edit source]

As few know, it just went up, anyone solved it yet (i am totally lost)

I've figured out that the next number in the sequence is 3, but I have no clue how that helps. --Quest point cape.png Andy08642 Talk 14:13, November 29, 2009 (UTC)

Final item clue[edit source]

Can anyone figure out the final clue "Active game player rescues our cliff imp"--Guthix1110 14:29, November 29, 2009 (UTC)

I think that it could have something to do with beads, but it would be impossible for every player to obtain them from imps. --Quest point cape.png Andy08642 Talk 14:57, November 29, 2009 (UTC)

I can confirm that all 4 beads and a rope DO NOT WORK.--Guthix1110 15:21, November 29, 2009 (UTC)

this sucks, because every possible item is so hard to buy on ge so I can't try all possibilities --nismodrift

The final items[edit source]

Ok, so what is the final items? I've heard many theories, but the beads are sooo hard to find... is it really every beads and a rope? No. User:Why Baby Why 15:30, November 29, 2009 (UTC)

I heard 8 Redberry pies, 3 yellow beads and 42 gp

Anyone tried that yet?

the beads and rope wont work...... any ideas???

Trying this now, back in 5. plz sign comments! Cant. too many ppls buying beads. Could as many people as possible join the wiki's clan chat at "rswikia" please. I'm taking 3 hours per line, too many ppl saving at once. we'll blow up the server at this rate!--78.150.204.210 15:41, November 29, 2009 (UTC)

i'm lost! >.< I want to try the redberry pies but I can't buy anything needed. Anyone know where to get pie trays and buckets of four so I can try it?

Confirmed Redberry Pies, 3 Yellow beads, and 42gp will not work. --Ring of kinship detail.png CaistlynTalk Contribs 15:45, November 29, 2009 (UTC)

Final item?[edit source]

Possibly imp box? Mage24365 15:38, November 29, 2009 (UTC)

Remember that f2p players have to be able to do the event as well.

Impossible. it's f2p so imp box cannot be it.Undertakerhbk588 15:40, November 29, 2009 (UTC)

Could Gypsy Aris have something to do with it since he said something about a crystal ball?

Active game player rescues our cliff imp.[edit source]

Guys the main thing we should focus on now is decoding this message:

Active game player rescues our cliff imp

No one has decoded the message yet and you guys are coming up with random items like red berry pies and beads when the message does not even contain the letter 'd'.

Why should it contain the letter 'd'? Why?! 15:44, November 29, 2009 (UTC)

-Since the letter 'd' is not found in the message, it can't be redberry pies or beads as they contain the letter 'd'! The message might be a cryptograph.

I already tried talking to the Gypsy and she would only talk about the Demon Slayer questline and Recipe for Disaster.

Could it mean as an active game player it is a member so we need to go to a non-member spot with a member quest or something?

That would be too troublesome. We should focus on decoding the message!!

Faruq says something about a crystal ball and also read about it, the crystal ball being gypsy aris and read about it the newspaper guy, does this point to the centre of varrock?

I'm going to try to translate the german and french hints now... so ill post back in a minute PS: OUR CLIFF IMP (anagram for) -> Fur Coif Limp? only then, what is a limp? and what tould the rest of the hint stand for? maybe the rest is an anagram too? be right back with translation

GERMAN ITEM HINT: 'Spiel Gefroren Murmelufo' -> 'Game Frozen Murmelufo' (if you divide Murmelufo into two parts (Murmel-Ufo)it means Marble UFO (UFO -> Unidentified Flying Object.... It's true but i dont think it has anything to do with the hint as we neither have Marbles or UFO's in the game).

FRENCH ITEM HINT: 'L'étoffe d'hommes fortunés regèle dur' -> 'The pack of furtunate men freezes again (re-freezes) hard'

The Race Master is an Imp.

PS: OUR CLIFF IMP (anagram for) -> Fur Coif Limp?-->Fur, coif, and limpwurt roots?

Reward[edit source]

You can use quickchat to talk about the item "Roddeck's Pipe". And we already know about the magnifying glass. --BreakIt 15:43, November 29, 2009 (UTC)

Maybe its an item from the Oracle that we need to get? >.< No idea.

Gaz just semi-protected this page. I'm leaving it as semi-protected for the next hour or so, but I am going to unprotect this page. I did go on a blocking spree and block a whole bunch of users, so in some ways I don't mind that this is a target for the vandals and miscreants..... they identify themselves by making such stupid edits.

At the same time, in going through the edits on this page there have been a number of very positive contributions that have been done by anonymous users, so I think it can ultimately hurt by semi-protecting here. Some of the additions have been funny, too! --Robert Horning 16:01, November 29, 2009 (UTC)

Active player rescues our cliff imp. O_O[edit source]

I really don't get this.

I heard it was all of the beads and a rope, then I heard it was confirmed, now I am hearing that it has something to do with red berry pies, although that makes no sense what so ever??

Our Cliff Imp[edit source]

Fur,Coif,Limp

Could these be the items? It's not stating specifically what fur,but I think it makes a bit of sense.

It doesn't seem to make a whole lot of sense, but you could try it if you wish. We need all the guesses/help we can get to figure out this clue. --Komain72 15:56, November 29, 2009 (UTC)

I just tried with a bear fur with no luck. --Ring of kinship detail.png CaistlynTalk Contribs 15:56, November 29, 2009 (UTC)

Maybe the first part is how many, so 6 furs, 6 coifs, and 7 Limpwurt roots. His other words leading to the varrock center i bought newspaper and it says a bear died.

Possible Anagrams?[edit source]

I've tryed using the number from the 4th clue on the clue Faruq gives out, they might be anagrams which could give the items we need, just a guess though. So far i have TEMLEEUOCFM, or if i move the starting position i get AIGEARSELFP and CVAPYRCSRI. Can anyone helm solve these? Vermin171 15:54, November 29, 2009 (UTC)

Remember guys that the items are not in the message at all. When you talk to Faruq he tells you:

"That's most odd, but it should lead you to a place where you can find the items that you'll need."

It also has to be F2P so i thought about karamja volcano. That means a cliff and imps.

It's all i got so far. --189.139.220.19 16:07, November 29, 2009 (UTC)Sygzioux.

Ok Ok .... All we know is that the phrase leads toa place where we can the items. Read again what Faruq says !!!
Read the clue carefully and try not to go off topic. Everything is in the clue, we just need to work it out.
Let's try making a list of the places that link to the clue, so we can look for items that spawn at each location... Vermin171 16:08, November 29, 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for this clue. Perhaps 'active game player' means that we have to be in a clan race? Try sounding the horn to start the race at the karamja cliff.

All items can be obtained from Port Sarim region - runes, nets and if i remember correctly, cabbages west from Sarim. Only cliff imp I know from that region is the dwarf (small and likes mountains) at very south. Check it?
Treating the entire "cliff imp" phrase as an anagram, I was able to come up with "Port Sarim Ice Caves Magic Eye Ruffle Lup". Thoughts? Namrat Jahad 16:15, November 29, 2009 (UTC)
That's a good suggestion. "Port Sarim Ice Caves" sounds like it so it could be the blurite caves?

Cryptic clue fest final day[edit source]

does anyone know what items you need to give to roddeck cause i dont think anyone has completed it yet out of over a million people who will be first this needs to be worked out quick cause it gets deleted in a few days

The clue is - An active player saves a hill imp

We all know Jagex loves anagrams, so I'm trying to unscramble the letters. No luck so far...  Tien  16:20, November 29, 2009 (UTC)

The event will not be removed until the next update, so people will probably have until the middle of next week to complete it at least. The clue is: An active player rescues our cliff imp. Vermin171 16:22, November 29, 2009 (UTC)

foreign language hints[edit source]

Okay I looked at the clues in german and french and they don't relate to the english one at all, so it has to be some sort of anagram! It would be really hard, but we could try to decipher the other langueage clues as well and cross-reference results.

Anagram?[edit source]

I think Zezima is wrong. It has to be an anagram that's why all the different languages have different sentences. Let's start working it out!

Active Game player -.-

Could make Mage, Mace, magic? --Black cavalier.png Exaltic Cooking cape (t).png 16:28, November 29, 2009 (UTC)

Perhaps active game player means having some of the clan game tools on hand that can be bought from faruq in al kharid.. was there not some mention of while talking to him, to buy some of his wares

ITS NOT GYPSY - ITS RODDECK.[edit source]

It has to be Roddeck, he's the only person that is actually in the middle of the 4 items. Gypsy isn't in the middle of any.

Also, Faruq says he..

Roddeck is wise too so it would make sense ^_^

????[edit source]

Did anyone notice? the line said : 'active player rescues our cliff imp'? there was a ? sign at the end, and doesn't it sound like a newspaper heading a little bit??

It is solved[edit source]

I am proud to announce that the last clue is solved by me (Ezze 13) [Lies. I (random anonymous) posted the answer before you]. The items needed are: 8 chisels, 3 eggs and 234 coins. colors[edit source]

Does it have ath to do with the colors of the text Faruq uses when he gives you the clues? the 1st part of the hint was in red text for me, then black then red, then black then red again. Could that be a hint as to the color of beads needed? Did everyone get the same colors when they were talking to faruq?

Its all in the forums here is what it says Puzzle 1

Let me introduce Mod Mark H, Mod Kathy and Mod Crow. Each of them is going to tell you *one* of the items you will need. The only problem is – only one of them is telling the truth.

Mod Mark H: “You need a Cabbage” Mod Kathy: “You need an Egg” Mod Crow: “You need a Potato”

But who is lying?

Mod Mark H: “Don’t believe Mod Kathy; she always lies! She stole my princess crown!” Mod Kathy: “Don’t listen to Mod Crow; he lies! He isn’t even a real bird!” Mod Crow: “Don’t listen to either of them; they are both lying. They are both lesser beings, after all!”

Figure out who is telling the truth – you’ll need three of their item!

Puzzle 2

Below are five objects. One is the ‘Odd One Out’. The ‘Odd One Out’ is the kind of object you will need for this task. You’ll need eight of this object.

No hints for this one!

Puzzle 3

Ah, here’s one of my favourite little rhymes. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

“As I was travelling to Falador, one bright and sunny day, I came across a group of knights, heading towards the other way.

There were thirteen knights in total, each noble in their attire. Each knight then had three attendants – officials known as squires.

Each peasant lad was charged with caring for three mules, or t’would be their hides. Each mule had then two packs apiece, in each pack a coin to pay glad tithes.

The number of coins the party possessed – this you must unravel! For the same amount of golden coins will surely complete your travel!”

Right, now you should have all the items you need in the correct quantities. Come and speak to me with those items in your inventory for your reward!

:Lol, calm down Wink No one has it yet. So far, we know you can not get it from the Cryptic Clue Fest. The reward for the Cryptic Clue Fest is a magnifying glass. Roddeck says this is the reward, so I doubt there will be another.

:BUT, Jagex has said there will be a quest this week (today is sunday), I presume it has to do with Thanksgiving/Clues and whatnot, so just be patient and wait till then =D ! Quest point cape.pngLil Diriz 77 Talk Summoning-icon.png 17:29, November 29, 2009 (UTC)

Actually, no, never mind, it isn't coming out with the quest next week. See the article for more info. Quest point cape.pngLil Diriz 77 Talk Summoning-icon.png 21:15, November 29, 2009 (UTC)

Didn't work[edit source]

I talked to all the people, had all the right items (nothing else), but Roddeck didn't mention 'the group', and now I don't get the magnifying glass. I sent a bug report to Jagex; has this happened to anyone else? White partyhat old.png C Teng talk 19:07, November 29, 2009 (UTC)

I just got the magnifying glass myself. The 8 chisels, 234 coins, and 3 eggs should do the trick, assuming that you also talked to the other four NPCs first. I'm curious what happens if you go to Roddeck first with all of these items :) --Robert Horning 19:11, November 29, 2009 (UTC)
Probably nothing. I tired to go to the gem merchant with all the items needed but he didn't say anything about 'the group'.--99.63.87.252 20:48, November 29, 2009 (UTC)

Restoring deleted discussion[edit source]

In the mass of users editing this page and discussion section, a fairly massive amount of discussion was simply removed from this talk page. My question: Should it be restored? Yes, I'm aware of RS:DDD, and it is sad that such a policy was not followed here by whomever removed this content. --Robert Horning 19:09, November 29, 2009 (UTC)

Yesh. --Iiii I I I 19:10, November 29, 2009 (UTC)
I was a bit confused myself as to why so much discussion was being deleted. I posted on this talk page at least three times, but my comments were all deleted. The answer to the last clue was found long before the people above posted their discoveries...  Tien  19:34, November 29, 2009 (UTC)
We got hit with a vandalism attack from heck, and it shows. In spite of the fact that it keeps getting ripped out of the article, I do think it is worth mentioning that Google was also hammered hard by essentially the entire Runescape community trying to solve this last clue, and some folks going to extreme measures to solve this last riddle. I ended up blocking 19 different users (1 registered account and 18 IP addresses) all because of malicious vandalism on this page. Most of that was in the couple of hours between when the last clue was released and when Gaz finally put the semi-protection on it. I can only imagine that it was also getting hammered by search engines and players just wanting to find the answer. --Robert Horning 19:46, November 29, 2009 (UTC)
I tried reverting/rollbacking once or twice, and it was successful, but they just kept editing too fast, giving me edit conflicts, and then people not caring that it was deleted, but yeah, that was some crazy, confusing stuff :\, wish I could've saved more..
