here's mah data yo[edit source]
They seem to give the same resources in the same amounts every time. But I'm not sure if this is consistent to all players or just me; i.e. perhaps both your highest region unlocked and current resource amounts are taken into account. MolMan 15:14, February 10, 2015 (UTC)
- What does the individual numbers represent?--Jlun2 (talk) 14:55, February 19, 2015 (UTC)
- The first row is my initial stuff, and each row is my count after opening a casket. The columns are the port resources and then the trade goods in order of how they're listed in the log. So the first is chimes, then bamboo, etc. MolMan 14:57, February 19, 2015 (UTC)
Caskets it gave[edit source]
Using the normal version:
- 8 Oak caskets
- 13 Teak caskets
- 0 mahogany caskets
someone22.214.171.124 posted it on the actual article, I've moved it here:
After some exstensive testing. 1 hour at a time with a crystal rod perked with honed 4, at level 96 fishing with medium crystal urchins. after 5 consequtive hours, i concluded you should see on average 6 oak caskets, 4 teak caskets, and 2 mahogany casket's an hour.
Resulting in an average port resource amount of.
Bamboo 42+44+30=116 an hour
Gunpowder 60+60+40=160 an hour
slate 78+84+58=220 an hour
cherrywood 68+50=118 an hour
jade 80+60=140 an hour
steel 100+70=170 an hour
terracotta 16 an hour
azure 40 an hour
Please note that the superior scrimshaw is confirmed to have DOUBLE the casket catch rate, on top of this as of nov 14th elite skilling outfits including the Fury shark outfit will become obtainable via the relevant skills. this combined this many other fishing boosting abilites that i did not use, for example honed 5, the shark outfits boost of 7%, 97 fishing for the highest possible level fish large urchins for the highest possible casket chance, as well as the remaining 2 fishing levels after, and the call of the seas aura, if all used with the superior scrimshaw. You would be looking at an increase of a minimum 266% of the materials you see above.
Costs of using the scrimshaws vary depending of fishing level, and if you are banking the fish, doing crystal urchins yields almost no profit, with an inferior casket scrimshaw the caskets themselfs should return if used for a full 3 hours roughly 210k gp worth of items, dropping the rough cost to 1.2 to 1.3m per scrimshaw or 430k gp an hour to use, however the superior version returns on average 570k gp worth of items, and lasts for 4 hours before having to be fixed. costing roughly 160k gp an hour to use.
As of now using these to speed up ports is a highly suggested idea, as it could shave off nearly 2 months of work in ports to get to the end, on top of that, could save the player hundreds of hours of work in the long run.

(using normal casket scrimshaw), "Minnow Shoals" from the Deep Sea Fishing hub are exceeding all above data regarding the usage of the normal scrimshaw. 15 minute at minnows yielded me 7x oaks, 8x teak and 2x mahogany. will do a full hour test and update results later.17:40, April 29, 2018 (UTC)
