why not[edit source]

why don't we ask the admins to program up a status where people can alter info and preview but not save. I'd do it if i could but i don't have the acess wrights or programing laguage.--Cosmic rune.png Peckham33 Talk Chaos rune.png 00:35, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

Really there's a solution to this - copy a read-only calc to a usere page. Rich Farmbrough, 18:16 1 December 2009 (GMT).

High Alchemy Calculator Improvements?[edit source]

Right not there is such a small group of items...Is there any way that we can use virtually all of the items from the market watch, and/or flag the top 20?

Just wondering, have no idea how hard this might be so dont be afraid to rant on me.

It would probably be possible to code into the Exchange template the formula to figure it out (pagename price + nature rune price - high alch). The high alch price of every item in the game would be needed to be added to the template for it to work though. (i have no knowledge of coding btw, just guessing) Unicorn horn dust.png Evil Yanks talk
Hmmm..... Just thinking out loud (and on-screen) here. There would be a way to code individual item pages so that a special "category" would show up that would be for items that are valuable to high-alch. I'd like to avoid tampering with the "ExchangeItem" template as we need to keep that one as lean as possible, but categorizing for valuable alchable items does seem like something worth doing. The items on the GEMW already have the high alch value in the template (not all of them are accurate or up to date, but that is another issue entirely), so this value could be useful. Is this something that folks would be interested in having? A category of valuable alchable items that would be dynamically updated according to market conditions and changes in the GE price? --Robert Horning 23:06, September 19, 2009 (UTC)
I was thinking about this the other day too. It'd be nice, maybe a bot could be made to update the High alch values on the GE pages before the bot to calculate the profit of alching them is run. It seems like it'd be possible. kitty.pngPsycho Robot talkSilver bar.png 23:11, September 19, 2009 (UTC)
That would be pretty epic. Sorted by profit would be nice too =D Quest.png Gaz Lloyd 7:^]Events!99s 23:25, September 19, 2009 (UTC)
I got the current category of Category:Profitable Alchemy Items that is being filled up as the Wikia servers plow through the GEMW data. A couple of interesting items are popping up that may be of interest to some players, and this may make at least a place to look at. Perhaps a bot could plow through the items in this category to sort it out, or we could even use Dynamic page lists to try and display information of interest. The Dynamic page lists are very interesting and fun to work with (they are used extensively on the Wikinews sister project to Wikipedia), but are incredibly CPU intensive for the host Mediawiki server (in this case, dumping all of the CPU load onto Wikia and its servers). I don't know if the DPL extension has been added to the RSWiki or not.... likely it hasn't been. This is something we can request, however, if it is something worth looking at, although Wikia may complain because we are a huge website and existing concerns for how much CPU usage is consumed with the GEMW data. --Robert Horning 06:21, September 20, 2009 (UTC)
This is also a good way to spot vandals and miscreants messing with the GEMW data, so take many of the things in this category with a grain of salt. Verify before making strategies based on items in this category. --Robert Horning 06:25, September 20, 2009 (UTC)
It would be useful for users if the bot could base profitability on an item's current minimum price, rather than mid price, due these items having little demand (for the time being, anyway). There certainly are items you can alch for a profit these days: Combat bracelets, skill necklaces, dragon sq shields, and some others. Empty box.pngrriceCrabclaw and hook.png 00:05, October 6, 2009 (UTC)

<<< tab reset

The problem here is to get a mechanism to extract the minimum price. That sounds like something reasonable to do, but it does require something more complex than simply calculating the current price minus 5%. I wish it were that easy.

What gums this up (and is a huge issue for prices below high alch value) is that these items are all very close to the hard minimum value that Jagex will allow them to be sold on the GE. Some items still have a hard price floor above the high alch value.

Still, this is a very legitimate observation. I've considered putting into the GEMW database those values for max and min prices... as they can be determined from price histories and from data extracted from the Jagex GE Database. If an upper prices is less than 5% above or a lower prices is more than 5% below the current price, that is one of those hard price caps that significantly impact the price of that item. It would be nice to glean this information from that database, and in particular mark when those values have been changed. --Robert Horning 01:57, October 6, 2009 (UTC)

Experience till level calculator[edit source]

I believe there should be a calculator that lets you enter your current exp. in a certain skill, and the calculator will tell you how much experience you need to get to the next level, i.e. 802,562 experience in a skill = Level 70 = 11,883 experience from level 71. I would be happy to create a table of the known experience requirements for a level on request. ShinyUnown T | C | E 13:55, 27 June 2009 (UTC) The table is here, sorry I didn't look before. Mobilising Armies Calculator[edit source]

There should be a calculator figuring out the best items to buy for credits. It should be a very simple formula, just the cost of the item divided by the points it gives. Level Calculator[edit source]

I would like to see a calculator where you imput an amount of experience points and it tells you what level you what level you should be, and possibly the remaining XP. I have no idea how one would do this, or I would do it myself. It'd be a great thing, thanks!

Quarenon has developed some new fandangled flash calculators that could easily calculate that. When they are installed, chances are that a level calc will be one of the first calculators made. They are currently in debug, though only 2 people currently know how to code them so it might be a while. Unicorn horn dust.png Evil Yanks talk 05:27, September 14, 2009 (UTC)
Well, the actual code for the template is done the same as normal (parser functions and the like) - basically the input and output are changed as to not need to edit and preview a page to see the result. The code would be along these lines:
Current experience: {{formatnum:{{{1|0}}}}}
Current level: {{XP to Level|{{,|{{{1|0}}}}}}}
Experience to next level ({{#expr:{{XP to Level|{{,|{{{1|0}}}}}}}+1}}): {{XP|{{XP to Level|{{#expr:{{,|{{{1|0}}}}}}}+1}}}}
Default output (0 XP) Current experience: 0

Current level: 1 Experience to next level (2): 83

Where the first parameter (i.e. in the template the bit that is after the first pipe) is the input experience (with or without commas; defaults to 0). Template:XP (converts level to XP), Template:XP to Level (converts XP to level) and Template:, (removes commas) are used.
I could probably knock up a way to only output the XP to next level, if wished. Quest.png Gaz Lloyd 7:^]Events!99s 13:17, September 14, 2009 (UTC)
For those interested in working on personal calculators, you might want to check out this Yew Grove Discussion: Forum:RSHighscores. Setting up a tweak to calculate exp to specific goals is going to be trivial from that point. Let's see what Wikia says about this proposal. --Robert Horning 02:18, October 6, 2009 (UTC)

calculators limited?[edit source]

It seems the calculators that you have are mostly limited to making money, why this is important it is very limiting in its usefulness. There are many more things in Runescape that require calculations. For instance an equipment bonus calculator, a house planner (which you have something similar but it seems more used as a way to show of your house on your user page rather then being a helpful tool). Also including the max hit formula into a calculator would be very helpful too. I say an equipment calculator because the skill pages for equipment offensive and defensive only list the best possible bonuses. Which may be useful to wealthy high leveled players but, has no use for the average player who does not spend all their time making money, or for players on a budget. Those who cant afford or do not want to waste money on pvp/3rd age (including gwd 3rd age) have to navigate though a lot of pages in order to find what works for them. So including equipment under a total cost of 10 million not counting pvp armor would be very useful or just adding a calculator to find this information would be very useful to many people who use this site. Along with adding other non-money related that you have or do not have already to this list. As a calculator by definition is not limited making money. 63.65.166.110 18:50, October 30, 2009 (UTC)

I'm not sure, but I doubt those things would be possible in the current format. You see, most other fansites (runeHQ, runetips, et cetera) use Java or things like that for great calculators. However, if Java is enabled on this wiki, it could become quite a security risk. Note again that I'm not sure about this, I'm just giving my two cents. Ancient talisman.png Oil4 Talk 18:59, October 30, 2009 (UTC)
We're having a discussion on a tool to enhance calculators with javascript. We're currently waiting for Wikia to approve a new extension for use with the calculators, making obtaining hiscores data easier (like other fansite calculators).
A house planner is a nice idea, but I'm not sure how feasible it is to make with wiki software (the JS calcs just manipulate numbers with parser functions, meanwhile a house planner is a different thing entirely. It'd probably need flash/java, and as Oli said above, thats opens up a huge security risk on a wiki).
I've personally made a max hit calculator (melee and ranged), if you have an account you'll need to enable the script and visit the calcs link in my sig. Unfortunately, until the extension is approved and the calculators passed, you do need an account to view the current ones in operation. Quest.png Gaz Lloyd 7:^]Events!99s 19:08, October 30, 2009 (UTC)

well thank you for the reply but i do have in idea to that effect. for the equipment calculator you could set it up similar to the combat level calculator only a bit different. instead of having each space for a certain level the value would hold a place for each equip slot. and imputing the stats could for each item slot and each item in that slot could be done by adding a link to each item for that slot in the edit. By creating a page that would hold the code for each items link. in other words there would be a page with a list of every equipment items name and within that name would be a code containing the stat bonus of the item. which would be then added to the calculator in the correct equipment slot. Then when all the items were imputed into the calculator it could be previewed and show the total stats of the items together it might be a bit complicated and time consuming but it could be done...also if my idea doesn't work or doesn't make complete sense tell me and ill try to make more sense outta it. ... also ill see if i can look into that the next time i get on 63.65.166.110 19:18, October 30, 2009 (UTC)

On any item page the compare this item link in the infobox opens a screen where you can add multiple items and display a total. I think its limited to 5 items at the moment, but that can be changed (I think). Quest.png Gaz Lloyd 7:^]Events!99s 19:35, October 30, 2009 (UTC)

Mini-game xp calc![edit source]

Why isnt there a calc (maybee there is and i didn't look hard enough...) that determines total xp gained when you are at "x" exp and your spend "z" zeal at soul wars. Or at pest control, or any other mini game that gives awards this way. Thanks

Creating a calculator of that kind would require it to be made from Java so that people can change the individual numbers. Hopefully in the near future calculators of this kind will start appearing (see this discussion) so expect one of these kind of calculators to appear some time in the future. Soul wars required zeal for selected level[edit source]

Add a calculatoor for figuring our how much zeal some one would need from thier level to a selected level,

Example.

Current levels..... Selected level......
vv

Attack: (eg) 70 ................................................................... 75
.........................................................................zeal required: ****

Strength: (eg) 80 ................................................................ 95

......................................................................Zeal required *****
Defence: (eg) 76 ............................................................ 80

.............................................................................Zeal required *****
Range: (eg) 85 ................................................................... 99
..............................................................................zeal required **********

Magic: (eg) 71..................................................................... 94

.........................................................................zeal required ******
Prayer: (eg) 45...................................................................... 70

.................................................................................Zeal required ********
Slayer: (eg) 45......................................................................... 70
......................................................................................Zeal required ****

Total zeal required for selected levels................................. Zeal: *******

Or you can spice it up a little bit, just use your formula's you have figured out because it would in a way be revolutionary to runescape for, no other websites figure out the correct amount of zeal because they just figure out how much zeal you gain at your current level (per zeal) and then they just figure out how much you need from there, nothing about how the amount of experience you gain increases almost everytime you spend at least about, 30-50...

Try to make this calculator, it wouldnt be to difficult for you guys i dont think...  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 99.250.160.103 (talk) on 15:53, March 8, 2010 (UTC).
