LMFAO I did throne of misc as a chick-- the quest was HILARIOUS! I marriaged brand as a guy, we kissed, and everything! ROFLLLLLLLL

I think it is a master quest. --Silv3rlining 16:19, December 15, 2009 (UTC)Silv3rl1ning

You can't pot slayer to do this quest --Will14smith 16:42, December 15, 2009 (UTC)

A big lot of combat required lol, and the reward also hold a shortcut to the dagganoth kings, making it possible to solo the dagganoth kings, since you don't need two persons to get there anymore Lpfreaky90 2 17:13, December 15, 2009 (UTC)

how much xp do you get?

Boosting[edit source]

Is it possible to boost Slayer/Strength/Attack? I'm hoping not, but it would be good to get confirmation. Thanks. Small090 17:23, December 15, 2009 (UTC)

I've read on the forums that players have attempted to boost their strength and attack, it does not work. Rather obvious since you can raise those a good 20 some levels. As the poster above stated, you can't boost slayer for it either. --Third age kiteshield.pngTetris50 Third age robe top.png Talk | Ctrb | Edit 17:32, December 15, 2009 (UTC)

Wait a sec...[edit source]

In the trivia section, there's a curious bit. "BATTLE IN RELLEKKA"?!? Oh, *loljagexcensorlol*!!!!!

Under "Items Needed" it lists "Armour that provides no penalties to Ranged or Magic but still has good defensive properties"... exactly what armour has those properties?????

Dragonhide seems to be a decent all around armour, if anyone has a better one in mind, speak up. oh and please sign your posts in talk-- Dragon hatchet.png Kyzza1 Talk Dragon hatchet.png 02:27, June 28, 2011 (UTC)

Guards[edit source]

Before the final battle against the dagganoth mother, you have to defeat her guards. This is quite hard, as they keep healing each other. I got them down by alternately attacking one, then the other, then the first again etc, with the new axe.

--Iavirissa 18:33, December 15, 2009 (UTC)

Judging from previous quests, I suspect there's a clever way to do it, rather than just brute force. I noticed that when I attacked one and my familiar the other, only the one I was attacking got healed. Maybe someone could try poisoning one and attacking the other? Stewbasic 18:56, December 15, 2009 (UTC)
Poison does work to lower their hp, but I had to brute force them in the end. I'm sure there is a clever way, I just didn't find it.Penderwyll 19:41, December 15, 2009 (UTC)

cannon? or maby use the curses? idea, if a cannon can be used wear full dhide setup cannon and reflect mele and try a smoke devil familure? ~deathmock5

If you alternate between them every few hits they don't heal. -- 20:24, December 15, 2009 (UTC)

Use whip or a fast hitting weapon. Hit one once, then the other once, then the first, then the other, etc. etc. etc. They wont heal then.  Zaros symbol.png    « Iceman »      20:55, December 15, 2009 (UTC)

-- i found that the easiest way to kill these guys is to just equip either strong range defence or strong mage defence, then pray whichever one you aren't wearing. If you are planning on going directly to the mother afterward without stopping at a bank, then wear a good balance of both, but pray in whichever you are weakest at. Every couple of successful hits, I switched to the other Dagannoth. They hardly hit me at all and they both died fairly quickly. The mother was a lot more difficult. -- EmperorITNE 04:54, December 16, 2009 (UTC)

Dagannoth Mother[edit source]

What do you do to get past her? --Cahoszerox 19:46, December 15, 2009 (UTC)

The daganoth mother can be defeated in the same way as the one from the lighthouse quest. green for range, orange for melee, blue, brown, red and white for the elemental spells. I prayed against melee, as she hits hardest with that, and didnt switch prayers.

--Iavirissa 19:56, December 15, 2009 (UTC)

Good news, if you die while fighting the mother you go to the place you died when the boulders fell on you and you can teleport to the spot right after the enterance to the maze from the room with the 2 healing dagganoths --Cahoszerox 20:16, December 15, 2009 (UTC)

Why does it say that you should stand next to her? I died like 5 times trying that. She still has the same attack pattern when you stand farther away, not randomly, plus, then she can't melee you. Editing the article.--Armadyl Helm‎Long Live ArmadylArmadyl Helm‎ 02:25, December 16, 2009 (UTC)

I think we need a more solid description of what items to take / wear to Dagannoth Mother. It is a bit too specific as it is right now, and it looks a bit cheesy with the capital letters (like "MELEE", "VERY INEFFECTIVE" etc). I suggest changing it to something more neutral, like: -Suggested Equipment: - High mage defence body + range bonus - High mage defence legs + range bonus - Amulet of Fury/Glory - Prayer book (really, it is too much work to have something in the shield slot with all the weapon switching) - high defence boots with no ranged or mage penalties - high defence helmet which does not take away from ranged or mage - God Cape / Skill cape / obsidian / legends , etc - Balmung (required to first attack mother) Inventory: - Rune Crossbow / Crystal bow / Dark Bow - Broad Bolts - A magic staff of any type (not required) - 3x Prayer Potion - All Elemental Waves (at least 100 charges - just to be safe) - Super Defence Potion - Familiar Pouch (Beast of burden/Healing Familiar) - High healing food..... I'm not saying my ideas are the best, but I dont think the ones up there currently reflect more than maybe 1 or 2 people's ideas. For something as significant as the boss of the quest, I think it should be more of a group effort to determine what the best route of killing the thing is. Any suggestions? -- EmperorITNE 05:25, December 16, 2009 (UTC)

I agree The melee was very good vs the mother i used it on her and im level 135 - it was doing more DPS then the magic attacks (using the axe) also i think that it should be noted you need atleast 100 + casts of your mage shots especialy if your using some gear that is going to cause you to splash alot i brought 150 (99 mage here) and i was only left with 10 right before she died--Onehandsolo 08:17, December 16, 2009 (UTC)

I'm level 105 and as you may imagine I am having huge trouble with the dagannoth mother. Do you suggest I just pray ranged while taking ahrims or make an attempt to switch prayers. Bear in mind that I will get less attacks in while switching prayers.

DK Shortcut[edit source]

Until someone can provide proof that one exists and where it is, I will be removing that information. I went back through the quest dungeon, and there is no shortcut. The river area used during the quest does not have an option to travel through after the quest, as far as I can tell. Cheers, Penderwyll 19:41, December 15, 2009 (UTC)

It's a shortcut to Rock Lobsters, not Dagannoth Kings since you can't enter the room via the short cut. Its Alex Pan 01:04, January 13, 2010 (UTC)

Rewards[edit source] I can confirm that the combat XP can be applied to Attack, Strength, Defence, Range, Magic, Hitpoints, and Prayer. Fxrw 19:49, December 15, 2009 (UTC)

You get two dagganoth bones from defeating the guardians. Since these are the second highest experience giving bone, maybe they should be added to the rewards?

Incredibly weird glitch[edit source]

After defeating the mother, when you go back out and see that the prince and princess are dead, an amusing glitch happens. If, during throne of miscellania, you were a female character, and were thus engaged to Prince Brand and then siwtched sexes to become a male player, the chat when investigating Bran'ds body is the same as it would be if the player did not siwtch sexes. So in essence, you can become a homosexual in the game. Also, if you had switched genders, the wedding scene does not take place, meaning that it is likely a glitch and not an intentional thing by Jagex.

Also, a map of the maze-area should be uploaded, as the tunnel can be a little tricky to find for some players. Vlastne 03:32, December 16, 2009 (UTC)

Oooh... Trust me, it IS a real accomplishment. O_o I've done WGS. I've seen the battles there. I've EASILY beaten 'em all up. This quest? I died once. I *nearly* died three times, not to mention the three times I had to escort Vargas... This quest? It deserves the Grandmaster category more than WGS. BUT, there is a but to this... It's a horrible quest. Fight, fight, fight, fight and somewhere between the battles there is this little bit of storyline going on... I didn't get to enjoy the storyline between all the hard and sometimes frustrating battles. To me, quests are about storyline. I hated this quest.  Zaros symbol.png    « Iceman »      07:05, December 16, 2009 (UTC)

Double Death glitch[edit source]

I added a new glitch i found in the quest once you kill the mother and go up back to the boat

If you dont examine any of the bodys it will shoot you back out into relekka showing the cutscene of the people dying but then you must go back down to finish the quest - talk to the bodys

thus causing the cutscene to be played twice--Onehandsolo 08:14, December 16, 2009 (UTC)

The layout of the whole article is a nightmare... It needs to be corrected. :o Actually, the whole WYSIWYG editor is rather glitched. Wikia has released a new version, why isn't it used on this site? The layout constantly goes out of order. Using the editor itself is nearly impossible, I write most of my stuff in wikimarkup. It's just horribly glitchy...

I guess that might be because you logged out at the same time you died. That would mean you get your gravestone, but as you're in a battle you logout from, you should redo the battle. You're lucky :P--Dylandeklerk 15:07, December 16, 2009 (UTC)

A mage strategy should be the main strategy presented in the quest guide. There is no ignoring that 4 of 7 styles are magic based. The Dagannoth mother does not move towards the player to attack with melee, thus while protecting from range, arguably the most common attack used by the Dagannoth mother, the player may only be damaged by the magic attack.

Thus, the strategy requiring least effort, and the easiest strategy for almost all players is wearing either mystic robes or Ahrim's robes wielding a bow and concentrating on 6 of the 7 styles eliminating the use of melee. Melee may be used at player discretion, but the easiest strategy is arguably not using melee, thus eliminating the need for changing protection prayers. --Tortilliachp 20:23, December 26, 2009 (UTC)

Dagannoth Mother strategy revisited[edit source]

The strategies presented in this guide are nowhere as safe, nor as effective as a mage strategy wielding mage gear. seems i forgot to sign. I'll sign it now then --Tortilliachp 06:05, December 28, 2009 (UTC)

Seven? 11:15, January 12, 2010 (UTC)

I also found a mage/range strategy very effective. I was able to beat the Mother after 2 failed attempts, with a range level of 76, a magic level of 83 and a prayer level of 71 (with curses - this is optional, I think prayers will be beneficial too). I did not use melee, apart from the initial hit on the Mother. With all three attempts I tried having different things in my inventory, and the 3rd time left me with plenty of food to spare after I had beaten her.

This is what I had in my armour and weapons slot:

  • Helmet of Neitiznot
  • Black dragonhide body, vambraces, chaps
  • Balmung
  • 200 Ruby bolts (e) - this can drastically reduce the life points of the mother, with the spec.
  • Mystic boots
  • Explorers ring
  • Cape of legends

In my inventory:

  • Rune crossbow
  • Crystal shield (I don't think this is necessary, I'm sure Toktz-ket-xil would be fine)
  • Prayer potion (4)
  • 150 Blood runes - for Elemental Wave attacks
  • 1050 Fire runes
  • 1050 Water runes
  • 1050 Earth runes
  • 750 Air runes
  • 20 Sharks

What I did was I prayed at the altar at Senntisten (giving me a prayer level boost of 15%, to 81 - optional). I then proceeded to Waterbirth Island (you can take your time, the boost does not reduce over time). When I was facing the Mother, after the first few hits with the Balmung, I weilded the crossbow and the shield. From then on, I only used magic and ranged attacks. I also swapped curses between Deflect Magic and Deflect Range, to preserve my food. The disadvantage of having to swap curses is that you have to be very quick, so that you can also swap your attack styles to match the Mother's weakness, and also have enough time to eat if needed. While the Mother is susceptible to melee, I just ranged her. I only chose to range because I didn't want to waste my runes. I killed the mother, with around 10 sharks to spare.

Hopefully this helps anyone without melee/ranged/magic levels in the 90s. Good luck! Leave me a message :) Annarelda Hiscores 05:39, April 23, 2010 (UTC)

(Somewhat) Inconsistency?[edit source]

When you "died" after collapsing the Dagannoth Mother's cave and end up in the afterlife again, you don't see Astrid or Brand. Yet they're supposedly dead by the time you finished Mother off. Unless this is an oversight by Jagex I'm going to hold the suspicion that Astrid and Brand may NOT be dead until they somehow fixed/explained it. (Yes, it seems silly to claim this after you burned their pyre ships and all that, but the inconsistency to me is too questionable to be ignored) --Red X 226 04:02, December 28, 2009 (UTC)

Greater mistakes have ben made in quest logic by Jagex previously, if this is even a logic flaw: where are all the other personas killed in other quests? answer: there is a "main valhalla" somewhere not just a 3 man tent. :) --Tortilliachp 06:05, December 28, 2009 (UTC)

Preparations?[edit source]

It would be helpful to list recommended supplies before each part of the quest. I was totally unaware of the Dagannoth attack on Relleka, and I showed up in Ahrims because that was the only gear listed on the Quest Details outline. There are plenty of parts where you can die if you're not prepared. Its Alex Pan 01:49, January 13, 2010 (UTC)

At least 50 Dagannoths?[edit source]

I waited until I had dagannoths as my slayer task before doing the quest and wrote down the number required before doing the quest. After the quest, I had 31 less to kill, which is far less than the 50 that the guide says I must kill. Note that based on the kill counts the dagannoth mother didn't count, and I'm not sure about the sentinels, but I know the ones in the dream world (and probably the ones in Rellekka) counted. Also, it felt much more like 25 that I killed in Rellekka than 50. Does anyone else have a more accurate count? --MarkGyver (talk) 20:37, March 30, 2011 (UTC)

Note that the Diary requirement is not to complete all Hard Tasks but to claim the Hard /set reward/ - therefore the LIVID Farm Task is not required to start this quest. After the EOC update the Dragonoths are now weak to wind spells. Recommended to update the fighting styles to use Gale Barrage as a primary attack on them, it's very effective only took me two minutes to finish off the 50 you have to kill.~~Cyansius~~

The cost of victory[edit source]

When you discover that Astrid/Brand has been killed, what happens if you keep blaming Baba Yaga at every dialogue option? Presumably you eventually attack her as seen in the article image, but I stopped short at the last option. In the post-quest dialogue with her, you try to apologise for blaming her and she will anticipate your apology before you can say it. But I did this in the beta server so I can't transcribe that. 16:17, November 30, 2014 (UTC)

I was actually upset that Brand died, so I blame her until the end and attacked her. She teled away. After I completed the quest I went back to Lunar Isle to see her. She has a dialogue option that says "I forgive you". You can respond with "Thank you", "For what?" or "What if I don't want your forgiveness". That's pretty much it, she doesn't hate you. Quest needs a fundamental rewrite after EOC.[edit source]

This quest guide is very outdated.

I went in expecting something hard but diddn't use even 1 piece of food. No mention of EOC is in this quest guide whatsoever other than a couple hasty lines random people have added. It would be nice to see this fixed.  —The preceding unsigned comment was added by (talk).
