The strange altar can be used to summon the Fossegrimen and charge the enchanted lyre for players who have completed The Fremennik Trials. Players can offer fish to the altar in order to charge the lyre. Offering raw bass or raw sharks provides 20 charges for the lyre, while offering raw manta rays or raw sea turtles gives 30 and 40 charges each, respectively. Players who have completed the easy Fremennik achievements will also gain 20 extra charges per offering.

Players also visit this altar during the quest, where they ask the Fossegrimen to enchant the lyre so they can prove their worth as a bard to impress Olaf the Bard.
