Steel bar detail.png

A steel bar is a bar of metal, refined through the Smithing skill by smelting an iron ore and a piece of coal in a furnace, requiring 20 Smithing and granting 3 Smithing experience. You can smelt steel bars 25% and 50% faster at 21 and 23 Smithing respectively. At 27 Smithing, you gain a chance (estimated 10%) of smelting an extra bar without using extra materials.

A steel bar can be forged on an anvil to create steel weapons and armour. A list of steel items that can be smithed from steel bars and the Smithing levels required can be found on the Smithing tables.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Players commonly used steel bars to train the Smithing skill, despite being able to smith mithril bars or better, because it had the optimum traits of requiring only two ores, while mithril or better required several more pieces of coal. The Mining and Smithing rework changed this. The Rework also removed the possibility of obtaining noted bars in barrels.
