A skiller or skill pure is an unofficial account-type that plays with heavy restrictions to combat skills. Skill pures usually have the goal to advance as far as possible in the game without increasing combat level, remaining combat level 3.

The challenge is based on reaching various milestones such as max level in skills and by completing quests, achievements and obtain items typically gained through combat. The account-type also excludes the best training methods in the game, as certain locations like Prifddinas is non-accessible for skill pures. While skillers generally do not train combat skills, some variants (see below) selectively train one or more of the combat skills while avoiding others.

Variations[edit | edit source]

Type Description
Level 3 This is the generic skiller; they have level 10 Constitution and all combat skills are level 1. These are the most commonly found type of skiller.
Summoning pure The only combat skill these accounts train is Summoning. These pures must obtain charms from a handful of non-combat sources (see below). These accounts have a maximum combat level of 15.
Prayer pure The only combat skill these accounts train is Prayer. These accounts are a fairly common type of skiller due to the accessibility of bones and ashes. These accounts have a maximum combat level of 15.
Constitution pure These accounts train Constitution with all other combat skills at level 1. Since these pures cannot gain Constitution experience from combat without earning experience in other combat skills, they rely on uncommon methods to earn Constitution experience. These accounts have a maximum combat level of 25.
10hp pure/9hp pure/1hp pure Commonly named hp pure after Hitpoints, now called Constitution, this type trains all combat skills except the Constitution skill. Since slaying monsters yields Constitution experience, they must use uncommon methods to train skills that are typically considered impractical or impossible to train outside of combat. The maximum combat level possible for these pures is 116. Some players may be level 9 Constitution after having registered the account during RuneScape Classic, whilst a few might be level 1 Constitution after being reset for botting during the Classic days.
Citadel pure A Citadel pure is a type of skill pure created solely for the purpose of skilling in a Clan Citadel. As such, the only skills trained on a Citadel pure account are the skills involved in Citadel resourcing: Woodcutting, Mining, Firemaking, Smithing, Cooking, Crafting, and Summoning. These accounts are often created by higher-ranking members of clans to assist in the process of gaining needed resources each week as only a certain amount of resources may be collected by a single account per week.

Tips and tricks[edit | edit source]

  • The unofficial skiller homeworld is 100.
  • Players can hide attack options on players and NPCs through Attack Options under Combat & Action Bar in gameplay settings.
    • Players who choose to have these options visible can weild a bow with no arrows to avoid attacking by accident.

Tagging[edit | edit source]

To tag something means to hit a 0, allowing the enemy to retaliate. Wearing a Ring of recoil when taking damage will slowly kill the opponent. Other useful items to kill an enemy through recoiling damage are the blood amulet of fury and the deathtouch bracelet.

Tagging is required for a kill to count towards your account most of the time. There are however some exceptions in a few quests. In order to make sure your pure hits a 0, it is recommended to wear Leather armour and drink a Saradomin brew, making it a 0% chance for a combat 3 to hit on any opponent.

Hitting a 0 awards no combat XP.

Training Slayer, Dungeoneering, and combat skills[edit | edit source]

This section lists methods for training skills that are not straightforward to train without combat. Slayer and Dungeoneering require special consideration since they cannot be trained solo by traditional means, while combat skills (for skillers who train them) are naturally impractical, but not impossible, to train without actually participating in combat.

The following methods are universal and may be used to train any of these skills:

Slayer[edit | edit source]

Dungeoneering[edit | edit source]

  • Anima Islands D&D This is used by Ironman skillers to reach 50 Dungeoneering.
  • Sinkholes D&D
  • Shifting Tombs (requires 50+ Dungeoneering)
  • Leeching floors in Daemonheim
    • Make sure to turn off experience sharing in the party interface.
    • Bind a tangle gum shortbow or longbow with no ammo bound, equip it, and choose the 'Hidden' option under NPC Attack Option settings in Combat Settings. Turn auto-retaliate off. This will make sure you don't accidentally misclick and attack any monsters in the floor.
    • Be cautious as certain skill doors and certain puzzles can reward combat experience. If you're not familiar with a skill door or puzzle, don't interact with it just to be safe unless told otherwise.
    • While leeching, the most common puzzles you'll likely be asked to assist with are Emotes or Levers since they can sometimes require everyone in the party to participate depending on the Floor difficulty. These two puzzles are safe for skill pures to participate in and knowing how to do them correctly will help you and your party a lot.
    • After reaching Level 60 Dungeoneering and getting at least 50,000 Dungeoneering tokens, try to get the scroll of quick teleportation as soon as possible. This item allows you to teleport with the Dungeon Home Teleport much faster as long as you're not in combat, which is very useful for low combat level leeching.
    • To save yourself and your party some time, try your best to pay attention to the chat taking place so you can know if you're needed for a puzzle or needed for the floor ending after the boss has been killed. If you need a break or have to go, try to let your party members know in advance if possible.
  • Experience voyages from the Exile (requires 90+ Dungeoneering)
  • Lamps from the Waiko Reward Shop

Dungeoneering tokens cannot be obtained from Shifting Tombs.

Attack[edit | edit source]

  • Soul Wars
  • Pest Control (requires 35+ combat and 25+ Attack)
  • Warriors Guild (requires 130 combined in Strength and attack or 99 in one of the two)

Strength[edit | edit source]

  • Barbarian fishing
  • Soul Wars
  • Pest Control (requires 35+ combat and 25+ Strength)
  • Pyramid Plunder (open sarcophagi)
  • Warriors Guild (requires 130 combined in Strength and attack or 99 in one of the two)

Defence[edit | edit source]

  • Soul Wars
  • Pest Control (requires 35+ combat and 25+ Defence)
  • Warriors Guild (requires 130 combined in Strength and attack or 99 in one of the two)

Ranged[edit | edit source]

Magic[edit | edit source]

Constitution[edit | edit source]

  • Soul Wars
  • Pest Control (requires 35+ combat and 25+ Constitution)

Level 99 Constitution pures cannot play Pest Control due to the combat level requirement.

Summoning[edit | edit source]

Summoning experience may be earned from the following:

The following methods allow skillers to obtain charms:

Summoning pures cannot obtain charms from Soul Wars due to the combat level requirement.

Quests[edit | edit source]

The following quests are possible to complete while remaining level 3 combat. Additional quests may be possible for skillers that train one or more combat skills. For quests that involve defeating enemies in combat, food and rings of recoil are usually necessary. A blood amulet of fury or deathtouch bracelet may also be used. Generally, as long as no direct damage is dealt by the skiller, they will receive no experience for recoiling the enemy to death. However, recoiling an enemy to death does not always correctly advance the quest. In these cases, deathtouched darts are the only option for level 3s. Pures that train Defence can also try using Reflect. Unlike most forms of reflect damage, armour spikes do grant combat experience, even if the monster is not tagged.

Ironman skillers can obtain rings of recoil by catching murderous bakami.

Maximum quest points: 189 (or 58 if free-to-play)

  • The 10 skeletons encountered during the Silverlight trials can easily be recoiled. It's not necessary to tag them.
  • 9 low-level cultists guard the demon Delrith's underground crypt. They do little damage and can easily be recoiled. It's not necessary to tag them.
    • Gideon Bede follows you through the underground path and will attempt to aid you in these battles. You will gain experience if the cultists die after taking damage from Gideon. To safely complete the quest, the cultists must be killed solely with recoil damage.
    • Fortunately, the cultists are aggressive and attack from afar with magic spells. The path is fairly linear, so proceed slowly and mind your distance during these battles to prevent Gideon from engaging them.
    • It's advisable to bring a one-click teleport with you as you battle through the crypt. If Gideon starts attacking the cultists, simply teleport to safety and return for another attempt.
  • The boss Delrith awards no experience whatsoever. He is immune to recoil damage, but can be killed safely with the Silverlight sword.

Priest in Peril F2P icon.png
  • The combat experience for both quest enemies is scaled to the damage dealt. The Cerberus and monk can be recoiled down very low (ideally 1 health), and then killed with a weapon; this will yield a tiny amount of combat experience (less than 1, shown as 0).
The Restless Ghost F2P icon.png
  • A skeleton will attack you when you find a skull. You don't have to attack back; just run away.

The Blood Pact P2P icon.png
  • While a free-to-play quest, skillers can only complete this quest as a member.
  • The cultists are immune to items that reflect damage, so a blood amulet of fury or ring of recoil is ineffective; they must be killed solely with poison damage.
    • Wield a chargebow or similar weapon and poison the cultists using weapon poison++. Retreat from combat and allow their health to reset. Once they regain health, the cultists will continue taking damage from the poison. Afterwards, tag them once, and allow the poison to slowly kill them.
    • Wear items with higher damage bonuses such as an amulet of glory, arrowstorm drape, or archer's ring to increase the damage dealt by the poison.
    • This quest may take some luck and several attempts; it may be difficult to deal sufficient poison damage before the effect wears off.

  • In the end of the quest you control NPCs which perform magic spells. These grant you no experience.
Carnillean Rising P2P icon.png
  • Philipe Carnillean, who follows you, kills two Juvenile wolves by himself. This does not award combat experience.
  • Afterwards, a Cave Wolf Matriarch appears. Philipe will tell you to distract it so that he can kill it. Simply tag the wolf and let it attack you while Philipe kills it. As long as you do not do damage, the wolf will not award experience.
    • The wolf has some strong attacks, and it will take a few minutes for Philipe to defeat it. Bring some good food to help withstand its attacks.

  • In the final battle, Zanik will 'assist' you in killing 3 guards and high-ranking H.A.M. member Sigmund. You will gain experience if these enemies die after taking damage from Zanik.
    • Upon approaching the 4 enemies, a quick cutscene will play and Zanik will immediately begin attacking the guards. Promptly teleport out of the cellar as soon as the first shot is fired to avoid gaining experience.
    • Return to the cellar to restart the battle. Zanik will no longer attack first. Trap her at the south wall, and enter the room alone. The guards can easily be lured and killed with recoil damage.
    • Don't stray too far from Zanik or she will teleport to you and start battling. It may be necessary to tag Sigmund and the final guard from a distance with a ranged weapon and force them to walk to you, instead of venturing deeper into the room and risking Zanik joining you.
  • When navigating the H.A.M. storerooms, the guards that Zanik kills do not award experience.
  • Collecting the blue tears from the Tears of Guthix cavern will not award experience.
Desperate Times P2P icon.png
  • Need to defeat 5 level 50 clones of Sliske. Killing them awards no XP. They are immune to ring of recoil and Blood Necklace, and are hard to take damage on by pures. Defeat them by wielding Armour spikes and a shield.
    • Please note that Armour Spikes will give ranged XP when defeating normal monsters, but as the clones award no XP, you'll be safe.
  • The clones spawn when you step on to specific squares in the area. Be careful not to spawn several Sliskes at the same time, as this will kill you instantly.
  • Bring a lot of Saradomin brews. The clones can hit quite high, so it's recommended not to drop below 1000 lifepoints.|-

  • Players must fight Koschei the Deathless as part of Thorvald the Warrior's challenge. Upon defeat, Koschei the Deathless does not give combat experience. While the quest monster has four progressively stronger forms, only the first three iterations must be defeated to continue the quest; as such, skillers may choose to die to the fourth form.
    • As they grant no combat XP, you have to keep retaliating to his attacks. If you stop attacking him, he will despawn.
    • Make sure to unequip your Blood Necklace should you have one; the first stage Koschei will despawn if you heal up when its lifepoints are below 250, and you'll have to start over.
  • When locating The Draugen, he will automatically attack. You have to tag him and recoil him to death. If you don't tag him, he wont die even after 0 lifepoints, which means you'll have to wait for him to despawn and try again.

Death Plateau P2P icon.png 1
  • The Map needs to be defeated with a deathtouched dart.
    • While it's possible to tag, poison, recoil, and ultimately defeat the troll, doing so without dealing actual damage will not progress the quest.
    • When killed normally, the NPC will award roughly 25 experience -- typically not enough to level-up combat stats.
Desperate Measures P2P icon.png 1
  • When playing as Thok in the flashback, crushing the dinosaurs awards no experience.
  • When Thok and Charos attack Kerapac he will not take damage, thus no combat experience will be gained.
  • Fighting the waves of the dinosaurs awards no experience.
  • Towards the end of the quest you will need to defeat the Black Stone Dragon which can easily be killed by a deathtouched dart.
Dishonour among Thieves P2P icon.png 3
  • During the quest, you will need to defeat 5 Armoured Zombies in the basement of Zemouregal's fortress before being able to recruit Enakhra and Zemouregal. The two zombies that attack with ranged must be killed with a deathtouched dart. The three that attack with melee can be tagged and recoiled.
  • After everyone is recruited, you will enter Sliske's lair and team-up with Jerrod and assassinate guards while navigating a sorceress's garden-like maze. Assassinating the guards does not award combat experience.
  • Further on in the quest, the player must face the Foreshadow, a clone of themselves. Killing this enemy normally (and the dark portals that it spawns) awards combat experience. It's immune to recoil damage. Consequently, a deathtouched dart must be used.
  • Toward the end of this quest, the player must kill 30 Elite Wights (while playing as Nomad) and then the 8 very powerful apparitions. None of these award combat experience, and can be killed normally.
Curse of the Black Stone P2P icon.png 8
  • Requires that you sit through one session of all Elite Dungeons. This requires a group of high-level friends who will let you do so.

    • While it's possible to tag, poison, recoil, and ultimately defeat the hellhound, doing so without dealing actual damage will not progress the quest.

Smoking Kills P2P icon.png 4
  • 2 skeletons (ranged) and 2 zombies appear in the first sarcophagus room in the Tomb of Catolax. They can be tagged for 0 damage and recoiled to death.
    • This may be challenging as the monsters respawn after a minute or so. All four must be simultaneously defeated before the quest can progress. It may be helpful to drink an aggression potion, run into the room, tag all 4 monsters, and deal balanced recoil damage with Rings of Recoil, a Deathtouched Brace, and a Blood Amulet of Fury. This may require some luck and multiple attempts.
  • Once all four monsters are defeated, a level 77 Mummy Warrior rises out of the tomb. The mummy cannot be recoiled; a deathtouched dart must be used.
  • This process must be repeated again on the other side of the tomb with similar enemies.
  • Later in the quest, you must kill Banshees to receive a Banshee Voice. While the banshees can be tagged and recoiled, it appears they will only drop the required item when defeated with a deathtouched dart.
  • The banshee mistress awards combat experience. As failing the battle requires obtaining another Banshee Voice, it's advisable to defeat her with a deathtouched dart.
The World Wakes P2P icon.png 3 (8)
  • Three Automatons must be killed at the beginning of the quest. Defeating them with recoil damage will not allow you to progress the quest. Deathtouched Darts must be used.
  • The proceeding battles with Kree'arra, General Graardor, K'ril Tsutsaroth, Zemouregal, and Enakhra are very difficult for skill pures, but killing them normally does not award combat experience. Ostensibly, these 5 battles do not require deathtouched darts; however, they may be necessary for a level 3.
    • Having high levels of Prayer and Constitution, strong recoil equipment, thousands of purple sweets, and a powerful weapon (such as a third-age druidic staff) will make these fights substantially easier.
    • Zemouregal will spawn undead minions and 6 portals that prevent him from being attacked. Killing these does not award experience.
      • If you choose to kill Zemouregal with a Deathtouched Dart, you'll need an instant teleportation object to escape the room, as you will constantly be attacked and can not leave.
  • When defending Juna from an onslaught of spiritual creatures, simply repair the barriers that protect her as they take damage. No enemies need to be defeated.
Quests that can no longer be completed as a skill pure, but were historically possible.

Miniquests[edit | edit source]

Skillers can complete a number of miniquests. Rather than provide an exhaustive list of all miniquests available to skillers, the following list contains only miniquests that require special consideration.

  • The Lair of Tarn Razorlor
    • The fight is currently bugged. Tarn's 1st form does not yield experience. His 2nd form requires a deathtouched dart for the kill to count.
  • Mogre

Tales of the Arc[edit | edit source]

Skillers can complete all 10 Tales of the Arc miniquests. Those that involve combat are listed below.

  • Head of the Family
    • The miniquest enemies yield no experience, so they can be killed with a weapon.
  • Spiritual Enlightenment
    • Bring a friend to help you kill the acolytes. Tag them and have your friend kill them. You will receive the drops.
  • Jed Hunter
  • Eye for an Eye
    • The zyclopes yield no experience. Bring a weapon (preferably ranged), a blood amulet of fury, 2-3 recoils, and an inventory of Saradomin brews. Tag the zyclopes to pull them off the houses, and switch targets often to ensure each wave of zyclopes dies at roughly the same time. Undead Jed can be killed with a weapon.
  • Final Destination
    • The miniquest enemies yield no combat experience. Wield a chargebow or comparable weapon to defeat the zyclops cannoneers before they sink your ship. The final boss can deal heavy damage, so brews are recommended.

Minigames[edit | edit source]

There are certain activities that skillers can do. The ones listed are those that are possible to do at combat level 3. Precautions may need to be taken in some activities to avoid gaining combat experience.

Notes[edit | edit source]

  1. ^ The best role for a skiller is the Collector role. He or she can stand near the cannons, and only pick up eggs when there are no monsters around. It is recommended to wait for all the penance rangers to be dead. Alternatively, if a skiller chooses the same role as someone else and stays behind the Horn of Glory, he or she will receive as many Honour points as the other person of the same role. Jugs of wine are recommended to take, as they are allowed inside of Barbarian Assault.
  2. ^ Level 3 skillers can light at least 10 of the 14 beacons.
  3. ^ Having the opponent forfeit will give a skiller kills on his or her Duellist's cap without giving any combat experience.
  4. ^ Only when losing each round, as winning would involve killing the other player, which gives combat experience. It is also possible to let the opponent forfeit to get more tokens per round.
  5. ^ Opening the sarcophagus gives Strength experience.
  6. ^ For a skiller to receive co-op points, he or she must kill at least 1 monster in the Slayer task. To do this, he or she must hit a 0 on it and use rings of recoil to kill it. No real damage has to be dealt. Drinking a dose of Saradomin brew is recommended to do this. Only Turael can assign a skiller slayer tasks, as all other slayer masters require a higher combat level.
  7. ^ To avoid getting kicked by a low activity bar, a player can use bandages on their teammates, or bury bones in the graveyard as it gives no Prayer experience. Since Zeal can be redeemed for Slayer experience, this is a good way to train Slayer as a skiller.
  8. ^ Stealing creation might also involve combat, but there are specific non-combat clans that make it possible to play Stealing Creation safely as a skill pure.

Tasks[edit | edit source]

Skillers are extremely limited when it comes to completing tasks/achievements. The following sets of tasks can be completed at combat level 3:

Challenges[edit | edit source]

  • Certain quests are impossible to complete while remaining a skiller as they carry combat skill rewards or involve killing a monster. This means that skillers often aren't able to take advantage of the best skilling methods available.
  • Member Level 3 skillers may complete a combat Daily Challenge, usually kill 8 Level 2 creatures, by using holy fire on tentacles within the Tuska minigame. The combat lamp may be discarded after earning the Treasure Hunter key.
  • Slayer is very difficult to level efficiently for a skiller. Although Slayer tasks can be completed using rings of recoil and retribution/wrath, methods such as using experience lamps and the rewards from Penguin Hide and Seek and Soul Wars can be used to get experience without actually completing any Slayer tasks.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • There are a few skillers that have level 9 Constitution. This was done by making an account in RuneScape Classic and transferring it to RuneScape 2. Since you only received 1000 Constitution experience in RuneScape Classic, when you switched to RuneScape 2, you would have level 9 Constitution.
  • There have also been skillers with level 1 Constitution. This was done by botting in the early stages of RuneScape Classic. If caught by Jagex, they would reset your Constitution experience to 0. Some of these accounts have since been locked by Jagex.
  • There have been skillers who have legitimately obtained the Fire Cape after defeating TzTok-Jad and single-handedly fighting off 62 waves of TzHaar creatures in the TzHaar Fight Cave. By utilizing prayers, poison, recoil methods, thousands of purple sweets, and 3 deathtouched darts, the Fight Cave can be completed.
    • Other skillers have illegitimately obtained the Fire Cape via certain glitches that allowed other players to enter the fight caves with them. This is a direct breach of the Rules of Runescape, and many of these accounts have been banned. The glitch that allowed this to happen has since been patched.
  • Some skillers have obtained boss pets, such as variations of the Araxyte pet. This was done by using a deathtouched dart on the boss and obtaining the improbable rare drop. Nonetheless, it has been achieved a handful of times.
  • Several skillers have obtained the Golden mining suit, Lumberjack clothing, and the Constructor's outfit, despite normally being locked behind content that requires high combat levels to access. This was possible by purchasing the sets from Vic the Trader in June 2017 and January 2018.
