Silvarea is a winding mountain pass northeast of Varrock, the capital city of Misthalin, that serves as the main passage between Misthalin and Morytania. Silvarea has become somewhat synonymous with Paterdomus, the Saradominist temple that dominates its eastern side.

Geography[edit | edit source]

Silvarea is a large mountain pass, bordered on its north and south sides by mountains. Its east side leads to Paterdomus, a temple on the west coast of the River Salve, which divides Misthalin and the swamplands of Morytania. Directly east of the temple, an agility shortcut is present. The road running through the pass is known as King's Road, which runs between Paterdomus and Varrock. Lord Ruthven's estate is located just west of the entrance to Silvarea.

Silvarea serves as the only land route between the two nations, making it a focal point in either realm's defence.

History[edit | edit source]

Main article: Paterdomus

Silvarea played host to a series of battles in the Years 1100 to 1200 of the Fourth Age. Morytanian forces, led by Lord Lowerniel Vergidiyad Drakan, attempted to gain Misthalin in a 100-year war that threatened to bring the human race to extinction.

Only with the assistance of the Seven Priestly Warriors were the people of Misthalin and Asgarnia able to defeat the Morytanians. To ensure that a second attack could not be launched, the River Salve was blessed and the Paterdomus temple constructed.

This does not seem to have worked entirely, however; during The Darkness of Hallowvale quest, players witness two werewolves attack and kidnap a traveller on Silvarea, during the Swept Away quest there is a Ghoul named Gus in Rimmington, during the 2006 Christmas event there is a werewolf called Shanty Claws on Musa Point (who, as a sailor, may not have needed to cross the Salve), and the brother of Lord Drakan, Count Draynor, managed to escape to Draynor Manor.

Points of interest[edit | edit source]

The quests Broken Home, Missing, Presumed DeathRag and Bone Man and Fur 'n Seek take place in Silvarea. The Gulvas Mansion central to Broken Home is found atop the southern mountains of Silvarea.

The northern mountains of Silvarea holds the Silvarea quarry and the Odd Old Man - excavation site. The Skeletal horror is fought in the arena on an north-eastern plateau.

Two beacons are found in Silvarea, one on each mountainous side. During the quest All Fired Up, they must be lit. After the quest, the beacons are used in the minigame of the same name.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • When the entrance to the city of Senntisten was excavated as a precursor to the release of the quest City of Senntisten, Silvarea's skybox was altered from its usual nighttime skybox with a full moon to the daylight skybox typically seen over Misthalin. It was later changed back.
  • All of Silvarea used to be behind a long fence with gates that only members can pass through. Eventually it was made free-to-play, and free players can now go as far as the Holy barrier in the Mausoleum under Paterdomus, which can only be passed by members. The Limestone quarry is a notable feature that went from p2p to f2p.
  • Silvarea is confined on three sides by physical barriers, while its western edge can be taken to be a vertical line exactly 3 game squares east of the Lumber Yard, as this is the border between Garden Echo and Undying, as well as different skybox and lighting.
