Sigmund was a high-ranking member of H.A.M., the arch-nemesis of Zanik and thus one of the main antagonists of the Dorgeshuun quest series. He is also an advisor to Horacio, the Duke of Lumbridge, though he loses that title (but continues to still use it afterwards) at the end of The Lost Tribe.
He has been involved in four attempts to destroy the Dorgeshuun goblins. The first was during The Lost Tribe quest, the second during the Death to the Dorgeshuun quest, the third from Another Slice of H.A.M. quest, and finally the fourth during The Chosen Commander.
He is fought during Death to the Dorgeshuun, Another Slice of H.A.M. and The Chosen Commander. The form of him fought in Another Slice of H.A.M. can be fought as a class H boss monster in the Dominion Tower minigame if the player has completed the quest.
History[edit | edit source]
Warmongering[edit | edit source]
In year 169 of the Fifth Age, a series of earthquakes struck Misthalin; although the impact was felt, it was minimal. During this time, a group of Dorgeshuun goblins, following a seam of iron, accidentally excavated into a surface building. Terrified, the goblins quickly sealed up the entrance, but they were spotted by a resident of Lumbridge. Sigmund tasked an adventurer with investigating, who soon discovered the Dorgeshuun tribe of goblins. Horacio prepared Lumbridge's army for an underground attack, although he wished to know his enemy and tasked the adventurer with learning them.
The adventurer returned and stated that the goblins were friendly, much to Sigmund's disgust. Having anticipated this outcome, he had secretly stolen some of the castle's silverware. Horacio informed the adventurer that they would need to bring it back, as the theft of his silverware was considered an act of war. The adventurer soon found the stolen silverware in the H.A.M. hideout, and upon returning it to Horacio, the duke was enraged; despite knowing him to be a member of H.A.M., he never thought he would stoop so low, and promptly dismissed him from his service, much to Sigmund's anger.
Plot to flood Dorgesh-Kaan[edit | edit source]
Beliving the Dorgeshuun to be just as bad as the surface goblins, a H.A.M. member reveals that Sigmund and Johanhus Ulsbrecht, head of H.A.M, are "planning something big". After eavesdropping on the H.A.M council, it is discovered that they are using a machine they bought from the dwarves of Keldagrim for unknown purposes. When the dead Dorgeshuun Zanik has been revived, she reveals that the H.A.M are going to use the machine to flood the Dorgeshuun capital, Dorgesh-Kaan.
After infiltrating the caves with the machine in it and slaying the H.A.M. helpers, the adventurer and Zanik battle Sigmund. After being defeated, he uses a Ring of Life, he escapes death and swears that they will meet again.
Following this skirmish, he began training his combat by killing goblins around Lumbridge.
Second attempt to invoke war[edit | edit source]
Sigmund and his men ambush goblins at the Goblin Village. After a brief struggle he captures Zanik, and ties her to the new rail line linking Keldagrim and Dorgesh-Kaan in the hopes of starting war between the two cities.
With Zanik unable to help, Sigmund is able to anticipate the adventurer's attacks, making him believe that he is winning. However, the adventurer uses an ancient mace that they had excavated before the construction of the Keldagrim/Dorgesh-Kaan rail line, which overpowers his protection prayers. He is defeated yet again, and uses another ring of life to escape death.
Last stand and death[edit | edit source]
Sigmund soon gets into a disagreement with Johanhus, believing that the goblins should be taken out by force, while Johanhus believed that they should lobby the government to deal with the goblins. As a result, he forms a splinter group with other members who share his beliefs, making a new base underneath Milton the Miller's mill in Ardougne.
His plan first involved sending Agent Walton to Dorgesh-Kaan to poison the food in order to wipe out the goblin youth, but this plan was thwarted by the adventurer. He soon learned of a "goblin spy" wandering around Lumbridge, and had him kidnapped and sent to the new base. The goblin was revealed to be Grubfoot, who was tired of the abuse he had suffered from Bentnoze and Wartface, and that he was going to Dorgesh-Kaan to meet Oldak. Sigmund believed that Grubfoot was spying so the goblins could attack the human kingdoms.
The adventurer discovers Sigmund's new base and breaks in while wearing a disguise. The adventurer manages to release Grubfoot, but triggers an alarm in the process and has to fight off the remaining H.A.M. agents.
As the adventurer and Grubfoot narrowly escape from the guards, Zanik (possessed by Bandos) arrives with a small group of goblins and attacks the base. Sigmund, despite having already failed with his latest scheme, engages them in a fight, looking forward to finally killing the adventurer. With the help of Zanik, the adventurer manages to defeat Sigmund.
Sigmund tries escaping death using a Ring of Life as before, but Zanik cuts off his hand thus preventing him from using the ring. Sigmund begs for mercy and the adventurer is given the choice as to whether tell Zanik to kill Sigmund, spare him, or say nothing at all. Regardless of what the player says, Zanik says that Sigmund showed her no mercy when they captured her in the H.A.M. base before stabbing him after Sigmund declares that he would rather be dead than live in a world overrun by goblins.
In combat[edit | edit source]
Sigmund is fought in Death to the Dorgeshuun, Another Slice of H.A.M. (and the Dominion Tower) and The Chosen Commander. His stats and abilities vary depending on when he is fought.
Death to the Dorgeshuun[edit | edit source]
When fought in Death to the Dorgeshuun, he is accompanied by some fellow H.A.M. members. After his cronies are defeated, you and Zanik can take on Sigmund alone. Sigmund uses protection prayers to protect from attacks, but as you are accompanied by Zanik, out of spite for her, when she is attacking him, he will exclusively use the Protect from Missiles prayer, allowing you to attack him with magic or melee.
Another Slice of H.A.M.[edit | edit source]
When fought in Another Slice of H.A.M. and in the Dominion Tower, you will not have Zanik to help, as she has been tied to the train tracks by Sigmund. Instead, in order to disable his prayer, the player must reach 100% adrenaline and use the special attack of the Ancient mace. Although he has grown stronger since the first fight, he is still relatively easy to defeat.
The Chosen Commander[edit | edit source]
During the final fight with him in The Chosen Commander, he uses the same tactics as in Death to the Dorgeshuun, and Zanik will once again accompany you, although this time, she will switch between her bone crossbow and bone dagger, causing him to switch his protection prayers appropriately, so the use of magic or multiple attack styles is advised.
Dominion Tower[edit | edit source]
When fighting Sigmund (with his stats from The Chosen Commander) in the Dominion Tower, you will not have Zanik to help you. As such, you will have to defeat him in the same way you defeated him in Another Slice of H.A.M. In order to disable his prayer, the player must reach 100% adrenaline and use the special attack of the Ancient mace. After that, his prayer will be gone and you can attack him with your weapon of choice.

Trivia[edit | edit source]
- When you talk to Sigmund in the H.A.M. Dungeon after you have completed The Lost Tribe, he will occasionally say, "...And I would have gotten away with it too, if it wasn't for that pesky adventurer!" which is a reference to the television show Scooby-Doo.
- During Another Slice of H.A.M., there is a glitch where the fight with Sigmund includes audio said by the Black Knight guardian. This has not been fixed.
- Whenever Sigmund is in combat, his H.A.M. logo is not shown.
