History[edit | edit source]
Early History[edit | edit source]
Senecianus was a soldier in one of the twelve legiones Zaros used to invade Gielinor. Like all Chthonian demons, he had a tremendous desire to devour others, which he repressed during and after the invasion.
Senecianus became an accountant working in the capital city of Senntisten. Many times he saw a human orphan in the alley behind his office, and over time became quite fond of the girl. He would leave small morsels of food for her in the evenings and watch her eat from his window. He named the girl Rowena, after a circus performer who shared her precise and jerky movements. Senecianus often told his clients of the girl's antics and mannerisms he observed, which amused them greatly.
One night, Senecianus finally decided to go into the alley and feed the girl himself. He expected the girl to be frightened, considering a chthonian demon's appearance, but she was not. Rowena hesitantly took the bread Senecianus had offered and they sat in silence. During this time, the hunger that Senecianus had suppressed since being discharged from the legion grew too large to control, and the demon instinctively devoured Rowena whole, absorbing her essence entirely. After this, Senecianus became insane and was committed to Senntisten's insane asylum.
During one of his rare lucid moods, the Mahjarrat Nabor interviewed Senecianus on the events that led to his institutionalisation. Senecianus calmly described his time as an accountant and his experiences with the girl, but when he began to describe what happened to Rowena, he again went insane and attempted to attack Nabor. Senecianus was restrained and returned to his cell, where he remained for the next several millennia.
After the fall of Zaros and the destruction of Senntisten, he was apparently forgotten in the asylum for thousands of years, until in the Fifth Age Ingram discovered a passageway into the abandoned asylum. Senecianus escaped the asylum - still insane after all these years. In his madness he transformed himself into the girl he killed and played around in the mansion, thinking he was Rowena.
Running Around[edit | edit source]
Thousands of years later, a wealthy noble named Ormod built a mansion atop the asylum where Senecianus was imprisoned. The mansion was rumored to be haunted by Ormod's ghost, who killed all who would enter. Around year 169 of the Fifth Age, Ormod's descendant, Ingram, moved into the mansion with his staff. During his investigations, he accidentally freed Senecianus from the asylum, who was still insane and transformed into Rowena, devouring all in his path.
Senecianus encountered an adventurer who was tasked to search for survivors in the mansion by Maria, where Senecianus ate a maid who was inside a storage room through a painting. He later encountered a faceless maid and ate her too. The adventurer soon met the ghost of Ormod's child, Lenian; but Senecianus, as Rowena, consumed him and then attempted to eat the adventurer, although they managed to avoid him. Using a spell constructed from the research of Nabor, Ormod, and Ingram, the adventurer confronted Senecianus and used the spell on him, although they were not aware that he was a demon, so they initially believed the spell had no effect.
This in turn caused an awkward moment, as Senecianus was confused at the adventurer's look towards him, while the adventurer believed that he was supposed to revert into a girl. Senecianus introduced himself to the adventurer as a citizen of Senntisten, and told them that he was a demon, before realizing that he had eaten Rowena. Due to the spell used by the adventurer however, Seneceianus did not go insane again, indicating that the spell successfully cured him of his insanity. Senecianus thanked the adventurer for curing his insanity, before being informed by them the mansion was haunted by Ormod, and that they were unable to put him to rest as he ate Lenian.
Senecianus recalled eating Lenian and offered to help the adventurer remove Ormod, allowing them to decide whether he could eat Ormod, or take on Lenian's form to "forgive" him. After the adventurer made their decision, he told them to meet him in the main hall. The adventurer told him that it was full of dangerous energy, but Senecianus stated that he would be able to protect them from it. After dispelling Ormod, Senecianus remained in the mansion to catch up on recent events and recollect his bearings, telling the adventurer they would meet again soon.

Trivia[edit | edit source]
- Senecianus is a reference to Shoggoth, a protoplasmic changeling from H.P. Lovecraft's writings. In concept art, Senecianus is labelled as "Shoggoth body".
- Senecianus' appearance bears a close resemblance to a creature from Dungeons and Dragons known as the gibbering mouther, a monster that feeds on bodily fluid and insanity.
- Senecianus has allegedly written a book titled If I Did It: Confessions of Senecianus A. Pamphilius. Copies of it can be found around Senntisten, although they cannot be read. The title is a reference to the real-life book If I Did It: Confessions of the Killer by O. J. Simpson and Pablo Fenjves.
- Senecianus' three names may be inspired by the roman naming system Tria nomina.
- Senecianus was the name of a British Roman who allegedly stole the Ring of Silvianus in the 4th century, and who in return was cursed by the ring’s owner in the name of the Roman god Nodens.
