Sealed clue scroll
Sealed clue scrolls are stackable items containing clue scrolls. When a sealed clue scroll is opened, it will give the player an active clue scroll which can then be completed, rewarding the player with a casket of the appropriate level. They can be obtained when training Fishing, Mining, Woodcutting, or Divination, from most standard skilling activities.
Sealed clue scrolls come in five different levels (with corresponding reward caskets between brackets):
- Sealed clue scroll (easy) (reward casket (easy))
- Sealed clue scroll (medium) (reward casket (medium))
- Sealed clue scroll (hard) (reward casket (hard))
- Sealed clue scroll (elite) (reward casket (elite) or puzzle casket (elite))
- Sealed clue scroll (master) (reward casket (master) or puzzle casket (master))
Sealed clue scrolls can be obtained from Fishing (1/3,000), Mining (1/2,250), Woodcutting (1/3,000), Divination (1/2,500), or Archaeology. The tier of clue scroll players receive is weighted based on their level of the activity, with elites appearing at level 60 training methods and higher.
Level of activity | Clue scrolls obtainable |
---|---|
0-49 | Easy (70/100), medium (30/100) |
50-59 | Easy (50/100), medium (40/100), hard (10/100) |
60-69 | Easy (40/100), medium (30/100), hard (20/100), elite (10/100) |
70-79 | Easy (20/100), medium (30/100), hard (30/100), elite (30/100) |
80-89 | Medium (20/200), hard (50/100), elite (30/100) |
90+ | Hard (60/100), elite (40/100) |
There is always a 1% chance for a sealed elite clue to upgrade to a sealed master clue, which can be upgraded to a 2% chance if using the invention perk Prosper.
In the Settings (under "Item Drops > Clue Scrolls"), players can toggle what clue scrolls they would like to receive from skilling or monster drops, and whether or not they would like to see loot beams for clue scrolls. Again, guaranteed clue sources bypass this.
Players can trade down active and new clue scrolls of a higher tier to a lower tier by swapping them with Zaida. This will clear any active progress on the clue when applicable.
They may be stored in Charos' clue carrier which is a reward from the Desperate Times quest.
Soft cap[edit | edit source]
Clue scrolls have a soft cap of 25 per tier (excluding master), which can be upgraded to 50 by purchasing the clue capacity upgrade in the Treasure Trails Reward Shop. The soft cap means that players can obtain up to 25 (or 50) of each tier, after which players will not receive any more unless it is from a guaranteed source (for example, skeletal horror). This cap includes both sealed clues as well as active clues. If a player reaches this cap, and has a luck effect when rolling for (and missing out on) a clue scroll drop, the associated luck message will still be displayed.

- patch 19 March 2018 (Update):
- Receiving a sealed clue scroll from opening a lower tier casket now bypasses the 25 soft cap limit.
- hotfix 26 February 2018 (Update):

- patch 26 February 2018 (Update):
- A new set of options has been added to Settings under the heading 'Minigame settings'. The new options allow players to individually toggle whether they receive sealed clue scrolls from skilling or monster drops, and whether they see loot beams for clue scrolls. Guaranteed clue sources bypass this, such as the Aquarium, Skeletal Horror, Triskelion keys, or the Prosper perk.
- Clue scrolls are now dropped or looted as a new object called a 'Sealed clue scroll (difficulty)', which stacks and gives a new clue scroll of the same tier when opened. Players can only have up to one clue of each tier active at any one time, as before. There is a soft cap of 25 on sealed clues for each tier, but guaranteed sources bypass this.
- Players will be eligible to get one free sealed clue scroll on login from Zaida at the Treasure Trail hub by the Grand Exchange main entrance. The tier is decided based on the player's total level, ranging from easy to elite.
- Gold Premier Club members are eligible to receive an additional free, sealed master clue scroll from either Zaida or the Vault Guardian for the first two weeks after the update.
- Sealed clue scrolls can now be obtained when Fishing, Mining, Woodcutting, or Diving, from most standard skilling activities. The tier of clue scroll players receive is weighted based on their level of the activity, with elites appearing at level 60 training methods and higher. There is always a 1% chance for a sealed elite clue to upgrade to a sealed master clue.
- The Prosper perk still allows for an additional chance at a clue scroll while skilling, but now has a 1% chance of upgrading a sealed elite clue to a sealed master clue.
- Treasure Trail caskets have new graphics, and are coloured to match their tier. Sealed clue scrolls also match this new colouring.
