Sealed clue scroll (elite) detail.png

Sealed clue scroll (elite) is part of the Treasure Trails Distraction and Diversion. Opening one will turn it into an active elite clue scroll.

Elite difficulty clue scrolls can be received in a multitude of ways, and tier 4 luck enhancers such as Hazelmere's signet ring and Luck of the Dwarves will increase the chances of obtaining one. They are a random drop from a large variety of high-level monsters and can also be received from pickpocketing certain NPCs. Looting a magical chest from the dwarven instinct aura, unlocking gold key chests within the Shades of Mort'ton minigame, and chopping crystal trees can also award elite clue scrolls.

For skilling, elven clan workers are considered the easiest way to obtain an elite clue scroll due to the lack of attention required. For combat, players should kill truthful, blissful and manifest in the Amlodd district in Prifddinas or the Sunken Pyramid as they have a high drop rate and are relatively easy to kill.

Sealed clue scrolls can also be obtained from Fishing (1/3,000), Mining (1/2,250), Woodcutting (1/3,000), Divination (1/2,500), or Archaeology. The tier of clue scroll players receive is weighted based on their level of the activity.

Level of activity Clue scrolls obtainable
0-59 No chance to obtain a sealed clue scroll (elite)
60-69 Easy (40/100), medium (30/100), hard (20/100), elite (10/100)
70-79 Easy (20/100), medium (30/100), hard (30/100), elite (30/100)
80-89 Medium (20/200), hard (50/100), elite (30/100)
90+ Hard (60/100), elite (40/100)

There is always a 1% chance for a sealed elite clue to upgrade to a sealed master clue, which can be upgraded to a 2% chance if using the invention perk Prosper.

They can also be purchased for 100 Treasure Trail Points from Zaida in the Treasure Trails Reward Shop or 200 thaler from Stanley Limelight Traders.

There are also several guaranteed sources of elite clue scrolls. Once each week, players may loot the treasure chest decoration in the aquarium in their player-owned house and defeat the skeletal horror for an elite clue scroll each. Completion of Triskelion Treasures will always award an elite clue. In addition, after completing Do No Evil and acquiring Ava's alerter, players are able to locate a buried elite clue scroll.

Players are able to hold a soft cap of 25 (or 50 if the clue capacity upgrade has been purchased from the Treasure Trails Reward Shop) of each tier of clue scroll. This cap can be bypassed with the weekly treasure chest, skeletal horror, Triskelion Treasures, Scripture of Bik procs, and ancient caskets.

Update history[edit | edit source]

This information has been compiled as part of the update history project. Some updates may not be included—see here for how to help out!
  • ninja 12 October 2020 (Update):
    • There is no longer a cap on how many master clues you can obtain and hold at any one time. This also applies to elite clues that upgrade to master clues.
    • Scrolls and caskets obtained from various places will go directly to Charos' Clue Carrier, regardless of whether your Backpack is full.
  • patch 23 July 2018 (Update):
    • Fixed an issue where the luck message for receiving a sealed clue scroll could be given even when you were already at your soft cap for that tier of clue.
  • patch 14 May 2018 (Update):
    • Sealed clue scroll objects can now be distributed through lootshare, with respect to each players' individual clue scroll soft cap.
  • patch 26 March 2018 (Update):
    • Fixed an issue where the luck message for receiving a sealed clue scroll could be given even when you were already at your soft cap for that tier of clue.
  • patch 19 March 2018 (Update):
    • Receiving a sealed clue scroll from opening a lower tier casket now bypasses the 25 soft cap limit.
  • hotfix 26 February 2018 (Update):
    • Loot beams now appear for sealed clue scrolls if the setting is enabled.
  • patch 26 February 2018 (Update):
    • A new set of options has been added to Settings under the heading 'Minigame settings'. The new options allow players to individually toggle whether they receive sealed clue scrolls from skilling or monster drops, and whether they see loot beams for clue scrolls. Guaranteed clue sources bypass this, such as the Aquarium, Skeletal Horror, Triskelion keys, or the Prosper perk.
    • Clue scrolls are now dropped or looted as a new object called a 'Sealed clue scroll (difficulty)', which stacks and gives a new clue scroll of the same tier when opened. Players can only have up to one clue of each tier active at any one time, as before. There is a soft cap of 25 on sealed clues for each tier, but guaranteed sources bypass this.
    • Players will be eligible to get one free sealed clue scroll on login from Zaida at the Treasure Trail hub by the Grand Exchange main entrance. The tier is decided based on the player's total level, ranging from easy to elite.
    • Sealed clue scrolls can now be obtained when Fishing, Mining, Woodcutting, or Diving, from most standard skilling activities. The tier of clue scroll players receive is weighted based on their level of the activity, with elites appearing at level 60 training methods and higher. There is always a 1% chance for a sealed elite clue to upgrade to a sealed master clue.
    • The Prosper perk still allows for an additional chance at a clue scroll while skilling, but now has a 1% chance of upgrading a sealed elite clue to a sealed master clue.
    • Treasure Trail caskets have new graphics, and are coloured to match their tier. Sealed clue scrolls also match this new colouring.
    • Drop options have been replaced with destroy options for all caskets, clue scrolls, challenge scrolls, scroll boxes, puzzle boxes and keys. Where applicable, the destroy message will indicate where to reclaim the item; however, in most cases the item cannot be reclaimed.
  • update 26 February 2018 (Update):
    • Sealed clue scrolls are added to the game with the clue scroll overhaul.
