Scrap metal (Smithing)

Scrap metal (Smithing) is a material hotspot that is used in the monthly Distraction and Diversion Effigy Incubator. During the Distraction and Diversion enriched scrap metal can be collect from it, yielding a large amount of experience in Smithing every 1.8 seconds (1,380 Smithing experience at level 99). Outside of the Distraction and Diversion the hotspot can still be gathered from, resulting in scrap metal, which are gathered for substantially less experience (11 Smithing experience at level 99). Enriched scrap metal is used to create explosive effigies.

All scrap metal (enriched or normal) can be handed in to Vicendithas for an incubator point each. All materials taken out of the laboratory will be automatically given to Vicendithas. Players will get a warning when attempting to teleport with enriched scrap metal still in their backpack.

During the Distraction and Diversion the hotspots have a chance to place enriched materials on the ground nearby, which can be collecting without interrupting the player gathering. These will usually be the same material as the hotspot (enriched scrap metal, in this case), but they can be any of the enriched materials. Outside of the five-minute session this will not happen, and only non-enriched materials can be gathered.
