"Abolish the Newspaper"[edit source]
I never had the chance to participate in the Abolish the Newspaper forum discussion. But I've read the comments made by the users, and decided to take some initiative to re-design the newspaper. The discussion has since been closed in favour of keeping the newspaper.
Spelling and grammar[edit source]
Anyway, I would like to inform that major spelling and grammatical errors has been fixed for all the issues (April, May, and June). In my opinion, some articles may have to be re-written as the quality of writing is still not up to par. I might have missed minor mistakes, but as far as I know, there are no glaring spelling and/or grammar errors.
Sub-page structure[edit source]
It took me 2 whole days but I've managed to fix the broken links, duplicated pages, moved pages, and redirects.
I have standardised the sub-pages structure so that it is much easier to navigate. This should, hopefully, eliminate all the mess created during the April and May issues where articles were stored in different sections of the RuneScape namespace (i.e. RuneScape:Fan Fiction, RuneScape:Comics and Classifieds, etc.) Each page is now located based on the following structure:
"RuneScape:WikiGuild/Proposals/RS Newspaper/RuneScape Wiki Post/issue/section/article" where: issue = April/May/June section = Fan Fiction, Comics and Classifieds, Editorials, etc. article = The article name
I'm proposing that from Issue 4 onwards the "Month names" are replaced by "Issue numbers" (i.e. "04", instead of "June"), as it will be much more practical. (We cannot have the Issue #13 using the "April" sub-page since "April" belongs to Issue #1.)
I've also re-designed the layout of the newspaper, giving the newspaper a cleaner look and feel. Some of the additions are a header, navigational boxes at the top and bottom, and a category.
I've categorised each page in Category:RuneScape Wiki Post. The category page even has a "category tree" that shows all the pages in a list. The normal category display was way too cluttered due to the many layers of sub-pages, and users wishing to see all the pages are encouraged to use the "category tree".
I've also added a template (Template:RSWP-article) for contributors to easily add content to the relevant section pages without all the messy HTML and wiki coding. The template automatically adjusts the colour scheme depending to the section page it is being used.
In terms of content, there's nothing much I can do. This is the responsibility of the editors and the contributors of the RuneScape Wiki Post. Hopefully, more users will be encouraged to contribute after all these changes. To the RSWP, I wish them the best of luck!
I will be on janitorial duty, so don't worry about messing up the newspaper. Just keep the content coming. If you have any questions and/or suggestions regarding the layout of the newspaper, please leave a message here, or in my talk page. For content suggestions, contact the editors handling the newspaper. Thanks.21:31, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
