This talk page is for discussing the RuneScape:Links page.

Since there is no person, item, term, quest, or anything in RuneScape with the name "Links", should this be moved to something like "RuneScape:Links"? Dragon medium helm! Whaddaya know?Chiafriend12Better than rune!I have 12 friends. 06:24, 28 April 2007 (UTC)

You guys need an affiliate button, for example. RuneScapez 20:43, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

Sister wikis[edit source]

Can i add Mechscape, funorb and the jagex wiki to the sisters wikis bit? I'm bcrat on the Jagex one! Pumpykin Whovian Pumpykin}22px chat[edit source]

Despite us having them added to the list, RuneScapez don't have us on their links page. We probably should contact them and/or remove them from the list. Unicorn horn dust.png Evil Yanks talk 01:38, January 7, 2010 (UTC)

I second that and probably does have a y not a u Twigy (Talk) 1HLTxg4.png 01:41, January 7, 2010 (UTC)
Maybe it's because we don't have a #Link Button. White partyhat old.png C Teng talk 04:25, January 9, 2010 (UTC)
Here's one: [[File:Link_Button.png|The RuneScape Wiki link button.]] White partyhat old.png C Teng talk 17:53, January 25, 2010 (UTC)
Nice one! A button/banner is much more appealing than a link and is likely to get more clicks than text, especially when it is white (stands out on most fansite pages which are black/dark). I think it'd be good if we request to put our banner up on our other affiliate sites too. But, I'm sure that Runescapez and other sites may wish to display theirs here. Cheers, Chicken7 >talk 00:21, January 26, 2010 (UTC)
I've told Matthew, the owner of RuneScapez, about the Link Button; it should be there soon. White partyhat old.png C Teng talk 02:25, January 26, 2010 (UTC)
We're added. Smile White partyhat old.png C Teng talk 01:49, January 27, 2010 (UTC)
Hey there,

Really sorry this happened. :) RuneScapez 15:15, April 26, 2010 (UTC)

Linking to YG threads[edit source]

We should probably put a link after the sites to the YG thread where we achieved consensus to add them. I would do it myself but the noinclude tags are offputting so I might leave it for someone else to do. For some reason, whenever I type in "Runescape Reader's Digest" in the search bar, the page won't load.... The only fansite thread that I could find was Forum:Start relationships with Rune HQ or other fan sites on Zybez. I think that the other 3 affiliates added their name without YG consensus. Someone probably should start YG threads on each. Unicorn horn dust.png Evil Yanks talk 01:37, February 14, 2010 (UTC)

Dark Runesape Wiki[edit source]

Someone forgot to add Dark Runescape Wiki to the affiliates page! No seriously they are much more than affiliates they are sisters. More connection than War of Legends which has an affiliate position! PUT Dark Runescape Wikia ON THE LIST! ps. plz :) Azorrez 10:49, March 20, 2010 (UTC)

We've disassociated ourselves with them, actually: see RuneScape:Requests for deletion/Dark Runescape Wiki. White partyhat old.png C Teng talk 02:56, April 10, 2010 (UTC)

Sister wikis...[edit source]

Weren't we affiliated with the FunOrb, Stellar Dawn, and Jagex wikis at one time? If so, why aren't we now? Quest point cape.pngLil Diriz 77 Talk Summoning-icon.png 05:16, May 3, 2010 (UTC)

This is lame...[edit source]

All the links in the affiliates section look like this:

... that doesn't really help those sites yet if one of the affiliates tries to link to rs wikia, link has to be all pretty and generic:

why is that and what's wrong with people on wikia? There are way too many ads. everything runs so slow why do people still put up with this? Plz join another site. the owners are just selling you out

That's because you are an unregistered user here. If you make an account, you won't be bombarded with ads. ~MuzTalk 20:38, August 15, 2010 (UTC)

yeah[edit source]

all right I've registered and i still see plenty of ads.

anyways, what about the fact that rs wikia obscures links to affiliates? Why is that? It's pointless to exchange links with them

telling by this page's history, "02:38, 17 August 2010 (Talk) (4,949 bytes) (→yeah: new section)", your not logged in. as for the second err... question, we don't obscure them, we just don't advertise them in articles (like product placement) they are just site we talk to and sometimes do things with. Full Slayer Helmet! Evil1888 Talk A's L Dragon Platebody! 03:05, August 17, 2010 (UTC)
I have an account with wikia i'm just not using it at the moment. there are still plenty of ads when logged in. ok who cares, never mind the ads.
this isn't advertising if your competitor has a link back to your site. and if the link they have leads DIRECTLY to instead of something like then I think wikia should have direct links to affiliates too!
I don't understand the issue, are you referring to the "you are now leaving Wikia" page? If so, we have no control over that.-- 18:00, August 17, 2010 (UTC)
Perhaps it's due to you're account being under 4 days old? Once you get past that point, you should have close to no ads placed on pages. ~MuzTalk 18:03, August 17, 2010 (UTC)
OK, forget the ads, and yes im talking about that "you are leaving wikia". Why is that there? Why can't wikia promote other useful sites with a DIRECT link?
Well 1. The ads on that page keep help keep us running (wikis typically run at a loss) and 2. It's a way of covering themselves from potentially harmful links posted on wikis by informing the user that they are leaving the site to another that Wikia cannot vouch for the safety of (this applies to all links as a pick and choose policy would create unnecessary work for them. Also, we aren't trying to promote anyone, they link us, we put a link back.-- 02:27, August 18, 2010 (UTC)
ha wikis run at a loss? someone is laughing from their central park west penthouse..
anyways, since we've covered the fact that the owners are swimming in money back to the point:
the sites listed in the affiliates section are approved so they're safe? admins wouldn't approve a keylogger infested site wouldn't they?
this is just such a slap in a face to all those webmasters who decided to exchange links...
Wikia is a wiki farm, wiki farms are profitable through the sheer volume of ads, individual wikis on the other hand tend not to have such support. Wikia in the first years also ran at a loss. The site owners were aware of the situation before hand, we concealed nothing, having one extra click to get to the site is no big deal. I still don't understand your sense of moral outrage at something so mundane.-- 04:10, August 18, 2010 (UTC)
yeah whatever. this is a plain text site - no videos or fancy images just text. doubt it costs that much to run this site.
I have a problem with such links because they don't give any credit to the affiliate site. When google visits this page it doesn't credit to affiliates because it doesn't recognize any. To google, is just another link to wikia. google has no idea that that links goes to some external site. Yet when wikia asks us affiliates for a straightforward link, google recognizes that and gives credit to wikia since it sees that many other 'runescape' related fansites link to wikia so it marks wikia as a 'trusted' source for runescape.
i'm pretty sure people at wikia know this but they're just too greedy
That's exactly why wikia does it. To keep a high pagerank, therefore getting more viewers, therefore getting more ad clicks. XWORQBucket detail.pngrwojy 19:29, August 18, 2010 (UTC)
yeah exactly what I was thinking. why can't wikia properly credit those sites who decide to advertise wikia on their site?
btw outbound links don't hurt pagerank unless u have like a hundred links

Idle Adventures Wiki[edit source]

Considering it's been up for over a year now, shouldn't we add the Idle Adventures Wiki to the Sister Wikis? Link to the Wiki: [1] Kent Knifen (talk) 05:28, December 8, 2016 (UTC)
