RuneScape France is the French version of RuneScape, in which all game content is translated into French. This version of RuneScape was announced on 1 December 2008 and released on 10 December 2008, though it was not announced to have been released until 11 December 2008.[1] Jagex had announced on 1 December that it would be released some time that month.[2]

It allows players who speak French to interact with the game and other players more easily, and is useful to residents of France and other French-speaking parts of the world, as well as people who may be learning the language and wish to practice.

Translation errors[edit | edit source]

Mistranslation of "evil"[edit | edit source]

French translation error1.png

During Recipe for disaster, the word "satanique" (satanic) was used to translate the word "evil". While this translation can be acceptable in the real world, it is out of place in the context of RuneScape. The word implies that Satan exist in RuneScape universe and this is not the case as the game tend to avoid direct reference to real world religions.

Mistranslation of "dark elves"[edit | edit source]

French translation error2.png

During Plague's End, the sentence "Death to the dark elves." Was mistranslated into "Mort aux elfes noirs!" (Death to the black elves). While the translation of "dark" into "noir" can be appropriate in some contexts, it is not here as "dark elves" refer to a political faction and not skin colour or a sub-race of elves.

Spelling or grammar mistakes[edit | edit source]

No major spelling or grammar mistakes have been brought to Jagex's attention. Some people have been able to bypass the chat filter of some of the words in English RuneScape in the French Worlds.

Glitches[edit | edit source]

The tree spirit random event attacked without any affect by Defence. This random event was removed on 25 February 2009.
