This style guide has the simple purpose of making the RuneScape Wiki Post easy to read by establishing a certain format. Reading the style guide is important to ensure that each user's edits will be consistent with those of other users.

Please post your contributions at one of the editor's talk pages so they may edit it. Jack Spiral is currently the main editor, but you may also post your contributions on one of the assistant editors' talk pages such as Stelercus or Scizor. These only include raw (rough) interviews, fan fiction, articles, and editorials.

General guidelines[edit source]

For a more comprehensive guideline, see the Style guide for RuneScape Wiki.

For a "dummy page" (a page all the others should look like), look here. Try and match the same basic look-and-feel of this article on all other RSWP articles.

All submissions must be related to RuneScape, The RuneScape Wiki, or its community.

Grammar[edit source]

  • Capitalization
    • Ensure the in-game capitalization is used, and proper capitalisation is observed at all times. For more information, see Title style.
  • Page Titles
    • Unlike content pages, article titles must capitalise the first letter of every word (with exceptions such as the, a, and, an, and so forth). The first word must be capitalised, regardless.
    • Any letter that appears in the title must be written out in words, as opposed to number symbols.
    • If there is a number in the title to denote where it stands in a series (example, "The Story - Chapter II"), roman numerals must be used.
      • This only applies when you are "naming" a wikilink to the article or the title section of Template:RSWP-header. The title of the page itself should use number symbols instead of numerals.
  • Numbers
    • Words should be used instead of numbers at all times, unless it is an exceptionally long number that cannot easily be written any other way. One million would not use numbers, but this would be acceptable for 1,435,674.
      • In this case, commas should separate every third digit.
  • Punctuation
  • British spelling (see RS:STYLE#SPELLING for a more complete list)
    • "colour" instead of "color"
    • "artefact" instead of "artifact"
    • "south-east" instead of "southeast"
    • "Counter-attack" instead of "counterattack"
  • Abbreviations and RuneScape jargon (with common-sense exceptions)
    • "Dragon longsword" instead of "D long"
    • "Woodcutting Yew trees" instead of "Cutting yews"
    • "experience" instead of "XP"
  • PG-rated
    • Avoid adult material, hate or violence-oriented themes.
    • Must not have insulting, obscene, degrading tone.
    • Must not contain excessive profanity.
  • Edited and proof-read
    • Ensure that your contributions have been approved by several editors of the RuneScape Wiki Post.
    • All submissions must be sent to [email protected] for review by one or move editors. See User:RSWP to submit.

Image guidelines[edit source]

All images used in the RuneScape Wiki Post should either be:

  • Existing images in the wiki.
    • Because the RSWP is an official wiki project, it is acceptable to upload images to the wiki for RSWP purposes.
  • Uploaded to image hosting sites (such as Photobucket or ImageShack).

Sub-page structure[edit source]

Articles for the "Editorials", "Fan Fiction", and "Other stuff" sections should be added as sub-pages at the relevant pages.

The general sub-page structure is as follows:

RuneScape:Wiki Post/section/title

  where:
section = Editorials, Fan Fiction, Other stuff
    title   = title of article

Authorship[edit source]

An author is defined as "the person who originates or gives existence to anything" and that authorship determines responsibility for what is created.

Although there is a wiki-wide policy not to sign articles in articles, authors will be allowed to add their name/signature within their contributions.

The "Don't sign articles" policy does not apply for two reasons:

  • The editorial/fiction is the contribution of a single author, or several authors.
  • Other users will be able contact the author(s) for future work.

Specific guidelines[edit source]

Editorials[edit source]

  • Must be an original article written by the author(s).
  • Try to include tips, strategies, techniques, analysis, opinions, and commentary.

Fan Fiction[edit source]

  • Must be an original story written by the author(s).
  • Must be related to RuneScape.
  • Must not: contain adult material, excessive hate or violence-oriented themes; have insulting, obscene, degrading tone, or contain excessive profanity.
