Article of the month: Varrock

Varrock[edit source]

To kick-off this month's voting for Featured Article, I nominate Varrock, because it has information on any imaginable aspect of the city, and much general information. Dragon medium helm! Whaddaya know?Chiafriend12Better than rune!Loon is best buttlord 08:41, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Support - Great article. It's got information on not only the conventional features like shops, NPCs, and banks, but it also explains city's history, political standings, etc. Morian Smith 14:45, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

"'Support"' - Great article, especially I had made a makeover on the stores' graphics and correct stock for the stores' update, it is up-to-date and suitable for being featured, though it has a need of being revised. Xdragonaite 10:35, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

Article of the month: Warped terrorbird

Warped terrorbird[edit source]

Good detailed monster article. Has a great strategy guide and would be the first page about a quest monster featured on the main page. Would suggest a peer revise the page to maybe find any grammar that may be incorrect as grammar is not my strong point... at all. --Whiplash 20:00, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Third Age[edit source]

I found this article due to a re-direct while drunk and only just remembered what it was. There's no opinion in there, it's all fact or educated speculation. Good article, good subject. Not many pictures however but looking through past articles of the month, this one is totally different. It would make a change from monsters, quests, areas, skills and mini-games. March[edit source]

Article of the month: God Wars

Third Age[edit source]

It didn't win last time so I'm hoping to get it in early and get a few votes. Its well written, well researched and contains enough links from the article itself to make it one of the most concise articles I've seen on the wiki. I think it'd different enough to make it stand out compared to the other featured articles. There aren't 100's of pictures on it though but that is to be expected. Don't be a bore - vote for lore! ahem Crystal bow.pngKeepin It Rhyl Ranged-icon.png13:23, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

Support - Well-written, good quality images. White partyhat old.png C Teng talk 04:25, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

Support - I've watched the article grow alot since it was a stub, and the massive amount of information put into it by so many users really impresses me. I think it's really shaped up; it has my support. Morian Smith 01:13, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

Support - What can I say that hasn't been said? I just read the article in it's entirety and I was very impressed by the thoroughness of the information. I don't think it's that organized on RS itself.--Degenret01 04:26, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

Support - I just read the article and I was amazed at how everyone put together these pieces of information. This is a great article. It is well written, well researched, and very well put together. This has my support. Pilt001 12:01, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

Support - It's a good article, and I voted for it last month, so it still gets my vote. Actually, I prefer the [[Combatants in the God Wars]] article, but that hasn't enough pictures to be a viable front page contender, so this is a good second choice. Khalron 10:43, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

Support-It is a great article for the history of Runescape.--Dragon dagger.pngShadow VetoTalk Retribution.png 14:24, 25 February 2008 (UTC) Don't know if you're allowed to discuss on here but I think that because the combatants is in the article via a link which makes the whole article good, much like wikipedia's history of computers, so all in all combatants fits in better as a link from this article as expansion than it does as a stand-alone. That's a response to Khalron btw, delete if its against rules Crystal bow.pngKeepin It Rhyl Ranged-icon.png 00:52, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

Support-The history of runescape is often neglected. This article fights back. Prayer~ArtwichtalkSummoning 15:22, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

Not the dungeon the article about what happened then. And just click the link to see? How can you not support this btw? Bank[edit source]

The bank is the most important feature in Runescape and is written quite nicely. It has a list of nearly every bank in Runescape, and even if it is so familiar to everyone else, there is always one thing you can learn when you take a glance at this article. It is also a very picture-wise article. Give the bank the rank! (MT Emtee 15:08, 22 February 2008 (UTC))

Pest Control[edit source]

Due to the giant population of Pest Control fans, they have contributed so much to this article that I say that this article should be on the front page. The article has been written exceptionally well, and I'm sure everyone would smile to see their favorite mini-game on the front page. MT Emtee 01:18, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

Support - I love pest control so this is a biased vote for me (if I can vote, been here 12 months and not sure about 50 mainspace edits tbh).Seeing as how I'm drunk I might add a little to it though, if anything needs adding. Its a good article, popular subject and well pictured. I think its a little from perfect but I'd be willing to help build the article. Crystal bow.pngKeepin It Rhyl Ranged-icon.png03:56, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

Don't Support - While it is a popular minigame, the article could be a lot better. While it is large and contains most of the information, there is a fair bit of bad grammar; sentences repeating themselves two or three times and the subject randomly changing. I would go through it all, but I don't have twnety or thirty minutes spare at the moment. Should these few problems be fixed, then tell me on my talk page and I'll gladly change this to a support! Article of the month: Kennith's Concerns

Fire cape[edit source]

An article in the RuneScape Wiki does not necessarily have to be long in order to be good. As long as the essentials are done in great quality, such as adequate description of its subject, appropriate image usage, and abundant connections such as links, templates, and categories, any article should be considerable for Featured Article.

Therefore, I nominate the Fire cape article for demonstrating many of this. It has described what was necessary regarding a Fire cape, has many different images to represent its subject, and contains several connections with links to relevant subjects. It contains templates that would lead to other articles and goes into more specific details about the subject, categories that groups it with other similar objects, and even a disambiguation in case a user is interested in a different article of a similar name. It basically has done nearly everything an Item article would be expected to have.

This article has demonstrated many correct ways to implement the Wiki's features and style, and thus deserves attention given to it. A nice variety of users have edited on the article rather than a single or a select few users rushing it to attempt to obtain its featured status, making it truly one of the articles that can be declared a Wiki article that can be further improved by any user. Furthermore, if it succeeds, it would be the first Item-based article to be featured on the Wikia, a record worth to note itself. Bowman hat.pngTarikochi 06:32, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

Neutral/Oppose - It's got good info and images/animations, but it seems a bit.....messy. I'll give it another couple of days to think about it. Cheers, Chicken7 >talk 22:50, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
Oppose - This article is a mess, and generally hard to look at. It's neither well versed nor visually appealing. I personally find the over-abundance of animations tacky. One animation can be helpful...four animations is overkill, unprofessional, requires too much bandwidth, and is simply showing off. I agree that short articles should be eligible for FA, but this is probably the furthest from FA quality that I've ever seen. Endasil (Talk) @ 18:44, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
Oppose - I agree with Endasil. The article is a mess. White partyhat old.png C Teng talk 01:28, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

Oppose - No. It's sloppy and has too many needless animations. Cool Spy0 01:07, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
Oppose - A bit better now that the 40 animations are gone; but the article is still a joke. You only nominated it because you have one. Ice 01:21, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
Neutral - Just to let everyone here know, I've done a bit of cleaning up on the article, so if you wanna have a look again, it's a bit better... I listed the changes in the talk page. Regabuh 01:59, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Kennith's Concerns[edit source]

While I'm fairly biased as I had a large hand in this article, I'm nominating this article for a few reasons:

  • We have not had a quest featured for close to a year.
  • This article has a good balance of images and information, both of which are structured in an easy-to-read manner.
  • The article is an exemplary Quest guide: all bullet points start with a verb, instructions are unambiguous, instructions are given in the imperative form to reduce second-person "you" usage.
  • The article is an example of how the wiki benefits from being a wiki: it reached near completion in very little time after the release of the quest, through collaboration.

Cooking[edit source]

  • We haven't had a skill as our featured article for a while.
  • Food is instumental for hard quests.
  • The article is written neatly and very infomatively.
  • Lets face it, Cooking is a huge part of RuneScape.Sworddude319 16:31, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

A good decision. I'm just wondering who you REALLY are lol :).--24.195.240.91 23:12, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
Evil Aer, your vote does count, regardless of your edit level. These are no rules that state you can not and moreover, a discussion in the Yew Grove about this very topic had the unanimous decision that indeed people who state you can not participate in this of VfD or RfAs because of edits are in error with the one exception of voting for User of the Month.--Diberville 15:42, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
Diberville please read RuneScape:Article of the Month under the voting section. It would appear that that featured articles and UOTM are pretty much the 2 places where edits are still needed to vote. Because, most likely, these 2 things ARE done on a voting basis. Not concensus.--24.195.240.91 16:30, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
That was Sacre Fi who unilaterally copied and pasted the UotM instructions in to AotM without discussion. If you check here, you'll see that the no one is against removing the edit minimum is required in the UotM since no oppose vote can be placed. As soon as that particular discussion gets officially closed, the rules will be modified to state that anyone can participate there will be no limits on who may participate with the sole exception of UotM. Of course if you really feel that we should follow this rule until that time, I'm willing to conceed the point. If you feel that the 50 edit minimum should also be in place for the AotM, I strongly urge you to voice your opinion in the Yew Grove discussion.--Diberville 16:45, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
  • Not ready yet; still need maps for the 3 rooms for placement of pillars and planks which other fansites have. Chrislee33 05:33, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
  • It is a useful guide, but still needs a lot of work for it to reach article of the month status. The text still does not read nicely. The flow could be more optimized e.g. describe steps in another sequence. Oppose. Miw 14:25, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
  • Oppose since it isn't what I would consider featured article status, as others have noted, there still is work to be done and incidentally, we've just had a recent quest as an AotM.--Diberville 15:42, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

Well, given that the month is half-over and no one has nominated an article yet, I'll renominate Macro since it keeps getting second place and I find that it's a good article and that it demonstrates that the RuneScape Wiki doesn't have a myopic view of seeing everything only within the confines of the in-game universe. --Diberville 21:59, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

  • OPPOSE Same reasons as other two; this focuses on an illegal aspect of the game (and also one which is largely part of the past now and not entirely relevant); I think the front page article should celebrate the good parts of the game, such as enjoyable minigames or raising skills Khalron 11:33, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
  • Oppose for reasons stated above. Bufar (talkcontribs) forgot to sign this comment.
  • Support The atricle is well written, informative, and an important part of Runescape's history (to those who say that macros are irrelevant, look at your trade screen, try to give a gift to a friend, or try to pk. It is because of macroing that these updates occurred and we feel the repercussions to this day.). As far as I'm concerned, this article doesn't glorify macroing and therefore should not have its subject held against it.

Your comment is a self-contradiction. You say people won't look for an article on how to macro but then we need an article on how to macro...can you explain? Planeshifted 14:56, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

The article is not about how to macro (though it contains basic information on how macro programs func.) it's about the different types of macroes, their effects, and Jagex's response.--Helm of neitiznot (charged).png Azaz129 Crystal shield.png Talk Edits Contribs 15:07, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

  • OPPOSE a good article but, now after the december updates macros are a rareity, and we shouldn't put an article on the main page about them, this will in my opinion remind people about something that ought to be forgotten about and maybe even promote their use. I do miss macros in a way, prices have skyrocketed since the rwt removal, and the absence of macros, but i could see that their disadvantages outweighed their benefits. this should not be on the main page however. • Comment - I think this article could use a further change of focus leaning more towards the historic impact of macroing, especially considering the fact that the actual in-game impact of them has become virtually eliminated. Most of the article still has many echoes of the original writings pre-dating the December 10th "bot massacre", as such it reads a little awkward for me and perhaps other readers as well. ~kytti khat 12:14, 28 June 2008 (UTC)

Keldagrim is one of the largest cities in all of RuneScape, yet it is rarely visited by players. I would bet that most people have never even heard of this place before. This article is well-written and informative and should put Keldagrim on the map, so to speak. August 2008

  • Slight Oppose As much as I like the article, and the place too, and it could do with a little more attention from the general Runescape population, I think too many Location articles have been featured so far this year; this could be the 4th in 8 months, compared to just three in the previous year and a half. Like it or not; Runescape revolves around combat, and it's been far too long since a combat skill has graced on the front page (or any skill for that matter). Well written, pleasant to look at due to the colour scheme and arrangement of images, and arranged into appropriate sections; this seems a good article for the front page to me. I think that too many location articles have been featured in the past, and now it is time for an item article to be featured. Armour is a very well written, well researched page full of comprehensible and informative content which is updated frequently. The pictures are well placed and relevant to the article. I personally like the tables telling readers the maximum possible bonuses.

This article was nominated last month but failed, so I though it deserved a second chance. Magic potion (4).pngCFLM Talk # Sign 18:01, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

  • Oppose The article does little more than explain what a godsword is and its historical context.Contrast this to the armour page, the latter has a host of information, along with providing various armour permutation for the needy adventurer, but all this article does is state what a godsword is and what its abilities are. It might perhaps be a nominee if it gave the uses, pros and cons of each godsword, along with where their usage can be made maximum, etc. So it might be more expeditious to merge the AGS,ZGS,SGS,BGS with the godsword page before nominating itNature rune.pngFireyfoxTALKLaw rune.png 08:04, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
Adding a pros and cons section would go against neutral point of view, and stating what an item's abilities are is the whole point of documenting it on our Wiki. Magic potion (4).pngCFLM Talk # Sign 11:03, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

If u cook the food and eat it will give u some hp. Player can also use Fire to cook their food. Cooking will save you live on rs.

  • Strong oppose - Nominator STILL did not follow the Requested Featured Article format (just like when they nominated Skill Capes), instead skipping the template that leads to the request (like {{RuneScape:Requested featured articles/Santa hat}} ) and yet again only restating the article's in-game content, not choosing to nominate it based on how professional the article may be. Japol, you've done this before with the Capes of Achievement, and you were pretty much the only support; everyone else strongly opposed for the fact that you supported what the capes do IN-GAME. This nomination page is for a WIKI ARTICLE, not the actual in-game feature. • Comment "fully updated to Runescape High Detail" is not actually the case some of the images are not in RuneScape HD. Additionally I do not believe that an article being full of HD pictures warrants AotM. One last note, HD Tutorial Island was only available for 14 days to new players and the HD version was only available to members during that time, even now the reintroduction of Tutorial Island is only temporary, therefore by far and away the vast majority of players that experienced Tutorial Island did so without HD imagery and as such giving the article an HD makeover just lends to an air of artificiality in contrast to the actual experience players had. ~kytti khat 13:41, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
One more comment, many of the 'HD' images in spite of being in PNG format, show GIF compression artefacts as if abstracted from an animated GIF. ~kytti khat 17:51, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
  • Oppose - I'd prefer to see this possibly featured later, however to have it done now simply doesn't feel right to me. After the island has been permanently replaced, then perhaps those who have gone through the current one will be able to look back and reminisce on it, however the article is simply empty for me with all these HD images and doesn't seem to catch the original essence of the island in the old days.-- 02:44, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
  • Comment - The article is well-written and has good images, etc., but as Learning the Ropes comes back, the island will be a discontinued area, and the article will be only lembrances. --Rafael0bo 22:01, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

  • Support - I like to see history articles and slightly less tangible articles on the front page, and it's good that the featured article seems to have escaped the location pages for a couple of months at least. Up to date to include Defenders of Varrock references too Khalron 15:56, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

  • Support- It is a well written article but also, it avoids having a trivia section and images are inserted in specific sections as they relate directly to those areas. Moreover, nominated articles usually revolve around a character, item, place or quest. I believe having this as an Article of the Month may encourage others to go beyond the adding and editing of basic utilitarian articles and information.--Diberville 13:35, 28 November 2008 (UTC)
I knew there was something extra cool about that article. No stupid idiotic trivia. Heh. Sometimes I consider proposing elimination of all trivia sections because so much of it is just garbage. But I know a lost battle when I see one.--Degenret01 13:44, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

  • Comment - I think this article should definitely be AotM soon, however, I'd like to see informational articles that relate to the new Grandmaster quest series (it has to be continued after all, that jazzy stone can't stay in lucifer's hands now can it). My only concern is timing, as my kitty instinct tells me that Quest #150 will be another GMQ segment (maybe even major and sub-parted like RFD). I will vote for WOM next month if it doesn't win this month. ~kytti khat 03:53, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

  • Support Very Weak Oppose - While I think it is the best article of the current nominees and it is informational, thorough and well written, I don't think the presence of the generic galleries and the long list of trivia make it Featured quality. If someone can insert most of the trivia and images within the article itself, I'll gladly change to support.--Diberville 14:07, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
With the improvement, I am changing my vote to support.
I went to tidy it up myself and saw that most of the work that was needed was already done. Great job!--Diberville 02:31, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
