Rocktail is a type of fish that can be found in the Living Rock Caverns and the Deep Sea Fishing Hub. The Living Rock Caverns are located underneath the Dwarven Mine, which is located under Falador and extends to Ice Mountain. Players need level 90 Fishing to catch rocktail and level 93 Cooking to cook them. Rocktail are an ingredient in rocktail soup, portents, powerburst of vitality, and calorie bomb (rocktail).
Contents
Cooking[edit | edit source]
Raw rocktail can be cooked starting at level 93. They give 225 Cooking experience per fish yielding 378,000 experience per hour; with decorated cooking urns it is instead 474,000 experience per hour.
Raw rocktail stop burning only if wearing cooking gauntlets at level 94 or using the Cooking cape perk.
A series of tests were conducted with cooking gauntlets equipped, at the minimum level to cook them (93), yielding a burn rate of:
- 27 rocktails out of 3,969 (0.68%)
- 18 rocktails out of 2,176 (0.83%)
Without cooking gauntlets, rocktail burn in high amounts even with a Cooking level boosted to 103 using a Chef's delight.

Price history[edit | edit source]
Following the release of Deep Sea Fishing in May 2018, rocktails were surpassed by sailfish as the single-click highest healing fish and the price crashed as a result. However, the price has recovered following the release of the Anachronia Dinosaur Farm as rocktails are used in the powerburst of vitality.
Update history[edit | edit source]
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- Rocktails look similar to the real-life anglerfish, which have a luminescent organ in the middle of their heads to lure prey towards them. Anglerfish exist in Old School RuneScape.
- Rocktails, along with cavefish and sailfish, are some of the few fish which provide more experience when fished than when cooked.
