Rock lobsters are found in the Waterbirth Island Dungeon's fifth sub-level, in room 16. They are similar to giant rock crabs in the fact that they are initially disguised as large rocks, but will attack players that approach. The lobsters are weak to magic attacks and can hit frequently into the low 300s. They attack every other game tick, making them dangerous if the player has low defence and allows multiple lobsters to attack at once.

Before the Evolution of Combat update, rock lobsters were commonly killed by wealthy players because of their common crimson charm drops. Using the right technique, such as ice bursting or ice barraging, killing rock lobsters was one of the fastest ways of obtaining charms. They are still a viable way of gathering charms for lower level players due to their low health, high spawn, and high charm drop rate compared to monsters with similar stats.

Strategy

Rock lobsters are weak to water spells. Players are advised to kill them by casting Water Wave, Ice Burst, or better using a staff, such as a crystal staff or better, and magic power armour, such as robes of subjugation. Low-levelled players may wish to bring an emergency teleport and food, such as sharks. As rock lobsters frequently drop charms, players should use a charming imp. Soul Split can be used to eliminate the need for food or safe-spotting. Players may also use Blood Burst/Barrage in order to heal.

Trivia

• The examine text is a reference to the B-52's song "Rock Lobster".
• The rock lobster's combat level was 127 upon being introduced into RuneScape 2. It was later changed to 156 in a hidden update. Their combat levels changed again to 142 upon the release of the Evolution of Combat on 20 November 2012.
• After the ring of Wealth update on 16 March 2011, the charm drop rates of hellhounds and rock lobsters had "gone walkabouts." This caused hellhounds to drop gold charms less frequently. Rather, they seemed to drop blue charms much more often. This was, however, fixed on 28 March as noted in the patch notes of that date.
