Rare item tokens detail.png

Rare item tokens were tokens that could be exchanged for "rare" Treasure Hunter items, through the rare token store. Tokens could be won through Treasure Hunter in the "Promotional" Category, when rare item token promotions were active. The tokens could be stored in the currency pouch, and Diango could store up to 100,000.

The rare token store could be accessed by simply clicking on the tokens when they were in the player's inventory or currency pouch. On 12 March 2015, ten tokens were given to each player on login. The first promotion went from 13 March to 16 March 2015. Prizes were in quantities of 175-261 (fairly common), 375-426 (uncommon), or 775-826 (rare). Afterwards, prizes came in quantities of 225-276 (uncommon), or 475-600 (rare). They were released again between 20 June to 25 June 2017. Once again players could buy the limited rares, the quantities of rare item tokens came in 200 (common), 900 (uncommon), 1,400 (rare), 7,000 (lucky).

Antique chests from the Buried Treasure Treasure Hunter promotion also yielded 100 tokens, but only if the player already owned all the available antique items from the chest. However, these chests would instead offer a piece of the Queen's Guard or Dragon ceremonial outfits if the respective sets were not already complete.

Alternatively, rare item tokens could be purchased from Vic the trader when he appeared in Burthorpe, using store credits. Opening up Vic's Store and selecting the tab 'XP/Tokens' had a 'Rare Items Tokens' option. It cost 1 credit per 2 rare item tokens, and store credit could be obtained by handing in bonus experience.

Rare item tokens could also be obtained from the Motherlode Maw (and Wythien), even by ironmen.

All rare item tokens were converted to oddments upon logging in after the game update on 25 January 2021. One oddment was given for every ten rare item tokens owned, up to a maximum of 10,000. Any rare item tokens above 100,000 were removed without compensation. Some players have found this to be an unbalanced compensation with some of the rare items previously bought with rare item tokens becoming obtainable with oddments from the Oddments Store. As an apology, accounts created before the beginning of 26 January 2021 were given 15,000 oddments and 15 Treasure Hunter keys upon logging in for the first time for three months after the game update on 1 February 2021. After the conversion the rare item tokens could still be obtained from some sources for some time, causing some to still exist in game.
