Prickly pear seed detail.png

A prickly pear seed is a Farming seed from which prickly pears can be grown by players with level 76 Farming. It is planted in a cactus patch. Harvesting prickly pears gives Defence experience instead of a crop item.

It can be protected by paying a farmer 15 jangerberries, although this is unnecessary for the Al Kharid patch if the player has completed the hard Desert achievements.

The seed can be found by pickpocketing from gnomes at level 75 Thieving, from elves at level 85 Thieving, or from dwarf traders at level 90 Thieving. They can also be gained through hunting in the Herblore Habitat or purchased for 3,000 points per seed at Vinesweeper.

Defence Experience table[edit | edit source]

The amount of Defence experience received on harvesting the plant appears to be dependent on both the Defence level and the Farming level of the player when harvesting. It also appears to be possible to only successfully eat some of the three fruits on the plant, which would give only a proportion (i.e. 1/3 or 2/3) of the possible experience.

The table below gives an indication of the Defence experience gained at different Defence levels. For the cases where there are three numbers (or sets of numbers), the first number is the amount of experience gained for eating one fruit, the second for eating two fruits, and the third for eating three fruits.
