A Pontifex shadow ring is an item which can be restored after completing the City of Senntisten quest, by combining a Pontifex observation ring (unlocked after Azzanadra's Quest) with a dragonstone at an archaeologist's workbench, under the Miscellaneous tab. When equipped, the following effects - with the exception of the teleport feature - are provided (viewable by right-clicking the item to Investigate):
- Teleport: Senntisten Cathedral (north wing of the cathedral)
- Luck: Tier 2 luck (improves rare drop chances)
- Divination: +1% XP
- Chronicle fragments: Increased spawn rate (exact rates and effects currently unknown)
- Rockertunity: Increased spawn rate (exact rates and effects currently unknown)
- Rockertunities cooldown variation of 24–36 seconds decreases to a variation between 24-31.2 seconds. The upcoming rockertunity cooldown variation is updated the moment the player equips the Pontifex shadow ring and mines one xp drop from a core rock, including if that rock had rockertunity active. Afterwards, the Pontifex shadow ring can be unequipped until the upcoming rockertunity is mined. This means players can swap between Ring of Whispers and the Pontifex shadow ring during rockertunity cooldowns to further increase XP.
- Time sprites: Increased active time at hotspots
- Tier [number]: You may obtain Elder Troves (T[number]) from activities within Senntisten
After the Extinction quest, the ring can be imbued (right-click on item to Imbue) to turn it into an enriched pontifex shadow ring.
The ring can be permanently upgraded to a max tier of 6 by charging it with resonant anima of the Elder Gods (left-click to Charge) that are obtainable through skill and kill activities within the Elder God Wars Dungeon. The anima that drops are untradeable until the ring has been charged with at least 1,000 of the corresponding anima.
After fully upgrading the ring (to tier 6), players can bring 5,000 more of each anima to Wahisietel in the Senntisten cathedral to overcharge the ring. Doing so renders most of the ring's effects - the exceptions being the ring's luck, skilling effects and prayer bonus (+2) - as passive (i.e., they remain active when unequipped or even when not in their inventory).
Players unaware of their ring's upgrade progress can inspect The Elder Ring achievement (under Exploration → Senntisten).

- hidden 31 August 2021 (Update):

- hidden 26 July 2021 (Update):
- The Pontifex shadow ring's teleport option now teleports the player into Senntisten cathedral, rather than outside the Senntisten entrance.
- Prior to the release of the first front, the Nodon Front of the Elder God Wars Dungeon, the ring's teleport would take the player to outside the ancient doors to Senntisten. This would lead to a humorous exchange between Intern Jimmy and the player, where he explained that the wards gathered during the quest blocked the teleport, and that it would take "a few weeks" to allow the ring to teleport into the cathedral instead.
