Pontifex shadow ring detail.png

A pontifex shadow ring is an item which can be restored after completing the City of Senntisten quest by combining a pontifex observation ring (unlocked after Azzanadra's Quest) with a dragonstone at an archaeologist's workbench. The option to restore the ring appears under the Miscellaneous tab on the workbench.

Upon choosing to investigate the pontifex shadow ring, the following properties are shown. With the exception of the teleport, these effects are provided only with the ring equipped:

The teleport option takes the player to the northern portion of the Senntisten cathedral.

The ring's exact effects on chronicle fragments, and time sprites are currently unknown.

Rockertunities cooldown variation of 24-36 seconds decreases to a variation between 24-31.2 seconds. The upcoming rockertunity cooldown variation is updated the moment the player equips the pontifex shadow ring and mines one xp drop from a core rock, including if that rock had rockertunity active. Afterwards, the pontifex shadow ring can be unequipped until the upcoming rockertunity is mined. This means players can swap between Ring of Whispers and the pontifex shadow ring during rockertunity cooldowns to further increase xp.

The ring can be imbued with the secrets learnt in Erebus following the Extinction quest, turning it into the Enriched pontifex shadow ring.

Upgrades[edit | edit source]

The ring can be upgraded by using resonant anima of the Elder Gods, obtained from the bosses, Slayer creatures, or skilling in the Elder God Wars Dungeon. Upgrade by clicking on the anima to select the default option Charge. The anima that they drop is untradeable until the ring has been upgraded with 1,000 of the corresponding resonant anima. The upgrades are permanent and once upgraded, it's not possible to use a ring of lower tier.

Overcharging[edit | edit source]

In order for the ring's effects to work as passive abilities, which are active even when players don't have the ring worn or in their inventory, the ring must be overcharged. Overcharging only grants the effects of the upgrades from charging the ring, not the base effects, such as the tier 2 luck, skilling effects, or +2 prayer bonus.

To obtain the overcharged ring:

  1. Acquire the base ring by completing the City of Senntisten quest and combine it with a dragonstone.
  2. Fully upgrade the ring with 1,000 of each anima using the "Charge" option, or bringing the anima to Wahisietel in the Cathedral in Senntisten. The anima can be the tradeable or untradeable versions, or any combination of the two that adds to 1,000.
  3. Bring 5,000 more of each anima to Wahisietel to overcharge the ring.

In the event a player has already overcharged the ring and is unaware of whether they did so or not, the player may inspect their achievements to verify the completion of The Elder Ring. If the achievement is completed, the player's ring is overcharged.

If the player uses only tradeable anima, the cost of overcharging is:

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Prior to the release of the first front, the Nodon Front of the Elder God Wars Dungeon, the ring's teleport would take the player to outside the ancient doors to Senntisten. This would lead to a humorous exchange between Intern Jimmy and the player, where he explained that the wards gathered during the quest blocked the teleport, and that it would take "a few weeks" to allow the ring to teleport into the cathedral instead.
