Pineapple plant (Farming)

Pineapple plants (Farming) may be grown with the Farming skill. At level 51 Farming, players may plant a pineapple seed in a plant pot that has been filled with dirt from any farming patch. A gardening trowel is needed to plant the seed, then it must be watered. These actions are all performed in the inventory interface.

After 15 minutes or less, the planted seed will become a pineapple sapling and can then be transferred to a fruit tree patch. The fruit tree patch must be raked clean of weeds. Compost or supercompost may be added prior to planting, and once planted (using a spade and trowel), the nearby farmer may be paid to watch over your plant. Payment is 10 watermelons and optionally may be noted to save space.

A pineapple sapling may take fourteen or more hours to mature. An amulet of nature may be bound to the patch to provide progress on its growth. Once mature, the plant produces up to six pineapples at a time.

Planting the pineapple sapling gives 57 Farming experience. A healthy pineapple plant, when checked, provides 4,605.7 Farming experience. If the farmer does not watch the plant, then disease on the plant may be removed using secateurs. However, if left alone, the diseased plant will die.

Each pineapple, when picked from a plant in a fruit tree patch, gives 21.5 Farming experience. Once all 6 pineapples have been picked, the plant will slowly produce more pineapples until all 6 are available again. However, the pineapples may be picked any time they show on the plant.

Production costs[edit | edit source]

The data in this table is based on the Grand Exchange prices of a pineapple seed and pineapple, assuming one seed is processed to 6 pineapples and a gardener is paid with 10 watermelons to keep the patch disease free.

Material cost Profit/loss Profit/xp
6,036 -2,964 -0.62

Farming all 7 fruit tree patches will provide you with 33,541.9 experience, costing 20,748 coins. Alternatively, players may use the pineapples to make supercompost.

To make the most profit, it is advised to treat the patch with supercompost and then turn the pineapples into supercompost. This makes the process self sufficient in supercompost, and makes enough money to usually cover the watermelons - though you may not wish to use the watermelons depending on goals and success rates

  • patch 21 July 2009 (Update):
    • Updated the pineapple tree models so they're not see-through when being picked.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • The pineapple plants in the game produce multiple pineapples. However, in real life, pineapple plants produce one pineapple each.
  • Pineapples in real life are not produced on trees, but on small shrubs that grow very close to the ground, called bromeliads.
