An oyster may or may not contain pearls when you open it. An opened oyster becomes either an oyster pearl, oyster pearls or an empty oyster. Usually a non-empty oyster contains only 1 pearl, although on rare occasions they can contain 3 pearls. Pearls are used in Fletching, as at level 41 they can be used to make pearl bolt tips with a chisel.
Using a chisel on one oyster pearl will create 6 pearl bolt tips, while using a chisel on the multiple oyster pearls will create 24 pearl bolt tips.
Oysters may be found while fishing with a big fishing net, granting 10 Fishing experience, while panning at the Varrock Dig Site, foraged by a granite crab, or obtained as drops from a number of monsters.
In earlier days of RuneScape, the chance of getting pearls from oysters was low. This was increased with the introduction of gem-tipped bolts. Oysters also respawn north-east of Rellekka.
