The Orthen furnace core is a skilling off-hand which requires level 99 Smithing and level 102 Archaeology to create. It provides benefits to the Firemaking and Smithing skills while equipped.

Effects

• The Superheat Form curse does not use prayer points.
  • Note: Superheat Form can only be activated with 1 or more Prayer points, even with the Orthen furnace core equipped.

Firemaking

• If the Pyromaniac perk activates, the player gains the Furnace Core buff: It provides a 5% increase to Firemaking and Smithing experience, lasts for 5 minutes, and can be refreshed up to 5 minutes by triggering either of the perks again.
• While firemaking there is a random chance to spawn a forge phoenix instead of a fire spirit. If the player has the Fairy Fire buff active in Memorial to Guthix, they will instead see a divine forge phoenix.

Smithing

• If the Breakdown perk activates, the player gains the Furnace Core buff: It provides a 5% increase to Firemaking and Smithing experience, lasts for 5 minutes, and can be refreshed up to 5 minutes by triggering either of the perks again.
• The scroll of efficiency effect has a 25% increased chance to occur.
• Smithing can also spawn a forge phoenix.
